Meanwhile, Sims who looked horrible and couldn’t find a steady role here seems to be doing just fine in Milwaukee. How does this happen?

LIke this...yeah I think so. Its my first time too. Still a good coach but its feeling like he cant take us further.
It looks like the best thing possible is about to happen
KAT is out for the next few games
He can rest
We drop to the four seed with the losses and can face the Cavs instead of the Celtics in the second round. This is the absolute best thing.
This is the absolute best thing for us to prolong our playoff lives
If that happens and by some miracle get by the Cavs, then it just gives the front office more of a reason to keep Thibs. We need a better coach.

Problem is, do we think Rose will actually fire him? That’s what we really have to figure out

I think he definitely will. The DD trade IMO showed that Leon cares about winning most. I do believe however that it won't be after this season unfortunately. They'll probably give this combination of players and coach 2 seasons and then they'll pivot.

It would take a lot for us to drop to the 4 seed, and I really dont think that extra losing would be good for our collective psyche. We are still like the 4 th best team in the league ....without Mitch , bench , and a maxed out coach.

Re: Thibs needs to go
Thibs is like a head chef in a restaurant... you want a steak medium rare, but he's only used to cooking well done, you're served well done steaks every night no matter sometimes as the customer you feel like medium rare, medium well steaks.
Thibs defenders: "you want medium rare steak, but got served well done steak, look I know you're upset, but let's look at the steaks shall we? This type of beef cooks quicker, that's why you get served well done"
You: "I just want medium rare, not well done, the chef overcooked my steak"
TD: "well the chef cooks all steaks for 15 mins, some beef cooks quicker"
You: "he should have cooked it less than 15 mins, how about 10?"
TD: "chef only cooks everything for 15 mins, NEVER cooks anything for less time"
You: "why ON EARTH can't he cook anything for less than 15 mins?"
TD: "it's his style, not his fault, we have to find different types of beef that suit his 15 mins cooking"
You: "YOU KIDDING ME? Why can't you find someone else who can cook for 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins according to what the customers want??"
TD: (not registering)... "sir, unfortunately tonight we only have the type of beef that cooks quicker, and that's why your steak was well done, you can email any complaints at "

Thibs is as good as gone, folks. He did a fine job until this season but the time has come.
The national media sees it, the fans see it, and social media influencers see it... Leon sees it, too, I'm sure, but canning him now probably won't improve our playoff chances all that much this season anyway and the optics would be bad, so they'll let the season reach it's natural conclusion (2nd round exit... maybe 1st round but not as likely as we're simply too talented to lose to a bottom 4 playoff team IMO).

You know this team is cooked when any hopes of a championship relies on falling in standings due to a player's absence (instead of the COACH)

Yeah , despite the positivity I'm not all homer. If we can improve by changing the coach you do it. Overall I'm still high on our squad.

Re: Thibs needs to go
The thing with Thibs is that he’s a great coach. He’s won in all 3 stops he’s coached for. He’s very solid. But like in all things there is someone with good talent and someone with great talent. I don’t he is an elite head coach in the NBA. Meaning, I don’t think he has the ability to take the team over the hump and win a championship. I don’t think he has the ability to make the in game adjustments necessary to win in crucial moments. He’s been to one Conference Finals his entire career and that was his rookie coaching year 15 years ago. You can argue about the rosters he coached but the results are what they are.
It doesn’t mean Thibs is bad. He has a lot of positives. I think he’s great for taking a team that isn’t immensely talented and molding them in his vision and pushing them to the best of their abilities. That’s his bread and butter. But taking a great team to an elite level - that’s not his specialty.
Look what a coaching change can do for a team. The Cavs got Atkinson and took another step to elite level.
It’s not just good enough to have a good record at this point. It’s a losers’ mentality. We made all these trades to win a championship. We need to think in terms of championships, not settling for moral victories or paper regular season achievements. Teams who aspire to win a title make the gut-wrenching decisions to fire a good coach for a great coach. It’s happened many times and it has usually led to great success.
The question is - who is the great coach on the market?

Tom is out of his f*cking mind. He is beyond reckless and does not care what tomorrow may bring.
He's gotta go

Re: Thibs needs to go
For one of the biggest reasons against Thibs has not even been discussed that much: The Bridges trade has put a certain ceiling on this team because we have not many assets left and I think it is unlikely the FO turns around this offseason and blows up the team (that will likely happen after next season). The only real, essential realistic way for this team to improve is to "generate" assets.
We need a coach willing to develop and play rookies. Otherwise I see us locked into a 2nd round playoff team.

Definitely not a foregone conclusion like you think it is, Thibs had a terrible coaching year in the 2021 season with Kemba and Fournier, we missed the playoffs, and he bounced back the next year
the front office will stick with him through at least one underachieving year, and on the bet that he’ll fix it..
But some of us have been saying he will only take us so far, ever since he got here, he’s a good coach but he can’t take us to the promised land.

Unfortunately I agree and that's why I didn't engage too much in the earlier discussions. I almost don't see any scenario where Thibs is fired in the offseason. They will give him and the roster 2 seasons and then pivot after next season.
I personally would go for a coaching change after the season but I think it is extremely unlikely. I'm not even 100% convinced a first round exit or second round sweep would make Leon fire Thibs but I could be wrong.

The only caveat I see is if the knicks implode and lose in either the first or second round badly..... again.
I think you're right a lot of people are underestimating Leon's relationship with Thibs. If they asked him to step down I could 100% see them offering him a front office role like Brad Stevens.

If NYK makes it to the 2nd round and the series goes 6 or 7 games, then they may just keep Thibs around.
Anything short of that and (IMO) Thibs is a goner. Our pathetic performance against the top 3 teams this season has been eye-opening for the fans, front office, and for the media. The clock doesn't stop ticking...
