Next two months should be getting KPJ work with Dame and Giannis lineups. I know in theory he'd be the microwave guy who leads the second unit, but the Bucks already stagger Giannis and Dame. I think the best version of this team come playoff time is those three putting enormous pressure on opposing defenses and seeing who can keep up.

What does KPJ give you off ball on offense though? He’s not a good three point shooter. He’s not a guy who’s going to cut to the rim. He’s not a dunker spot guy. I guess he can attack when the ball is swung to him but on this team there’s going to be a guy waiting in the paint because Giannis is not an outside threat. Would love to see him and Giannis in a PnR situation though.

I will say I was super impressed with KPJ’s off ball defense thus far. He stays engaged in the play and keeps looking for chances to get steals even when off ball. Him and AJG are great at that. Trent on the other hand seems really bad off ball defensively. Constantly loses his man ball watching.

You said it - microwave guy. I had thought about Vinnie Microwave Johnson prior. And people were like, "why doesn't this guy start". The answer was they have Zeke Thomas & Dumars - an even better on ball operator & an off ball monster.

When the Thunder went to the Finals they had Harden as 6th man. And still sometimes Westbrook taking the ball away from KD was a problem. I thought Harden was an issue w/ KD & Kyrie in Brooklyn. But Harden's good (not great) when he runs the show.

Tonight, Doc did try KPJ next to Dame for a few minutes, as a heat check. We missed shots & were like -6 in those minutes. So Doc pulled the plug. KPJ probably should be the Dame replacement. Maybe he makes it not hopeless if Dame goes down in the playoffs.

The Bucks version of Joe Dumars is Taurean Prince.
I think Porter should start.

Green should start. I get the notion of starting KPJ to maximize the sheer talent of the starting group, and staggering minutes, etc. But a fresh KPJ off the bench in a very clear role as the creator with the 2nd unit is too valuable to mess with. Green has the best combination of A) Maximizing the spacing for Dame/Giannis to go to work and B) Being a solid, reliable team defender.

KPJ hurts the spacing, Trent takes too many risks, Prince is just a VIP chauffeur to the basket for opposing guards.

He's not really off ball.. teams force the ball out of Dame's hands because Kuz/GA are more likely to turn it over on a raw drive.. Porter getting the ball there keeps Giannis down low and Kuz in the corner or cutting ... we just saw that AJG can't handle that role (passing/creating)

What’s 100% certain is that Prince shouldn’t start. What makes it even more weird is that with Bobby out you start all your forwards and keep just guards and Sims for the bench. Doc needs to understand this and balance his rotations better.

Who should start? Let’s not mess with chemistry no more. Green and Trent are flourishing in their roles. Green looks also the most comfortable guy in the closing lineup. Porter is the one that gets a role developed. He clearly needs more than the 10ish minutes that Dame sits. Start him to get some rhythm and confidence, pull him quickly out and then bring him back to replace Dame.

Dame (34)/Porter (14)
Porter (10)/Green (24)/Trent (14)
Kuzma (34)/Trent (10)/Prince (4)
Giannis (34)/Prince (14)
Brook (34)/Sims (14)

It’s so obvious Doc. Please play your starters a bit less too. No need any more for Dame playing 38-40 minutes. We are finally deep. That’s even with Bobby suspended and with no minutes available for Jackson and Rollins.

I think he can do it but I don't know how long KPJ, Kuzma, and Giannis could share the floor together. I think he does know when to cut and can play in the Dunker's spot but the lack of floor spacing naybe an issue.

My favorite part was watching Herro (and others, but especially him) be all smiles and talking sh** in the first half and just be defeated and give up in the fourth quarter after we came back.

They still had a chance and just gave up...priceless.

I like it.

Then Bobby comes back and takes most of Sims minutes and all of Prince's minutes at the 4.

For playoffs, we have flexibility. Andre, Sims and Rollins shouldnt play much but they can be plugged in for the right matchups.

I dont know who else remembers when the Brewers traded for 2B Jonathan Schoop, but watching KPJ has been the opposite experience of watching Schoop.

Looks like extremely slim pickings, Bucks can’t sign anybody who had salary over 12M either. There’s PJ Tucker I guess, Pat Bev is available again. I’d probably just bring back Thanasis if we’re looking for vibes, Kostas? :-?

As much fun as the Kevin Porter Jr. stuff has been, I'm still waiting to see what this all looks like when he stops shooting 70% from mid-range. I do like that he's always looking to be in attack mode, but I think he's kinda in the perfect spot with his role (instant offense spark plug off the bench) and not really sure that his usefulness is gonna scale with more minutes. 1.3 three point attempts per-36 is comically low and he's really gonna need to up those numbers.

His baggage is why the price for KPJ was so low, but you kinda see why he struggled getting minutes on the Clippers and why he's flourishing thus far here. The things he does well are not things the Clippers are lacking in and you can see why Amir Coffey, who is 12th in the NBA in 3-pt%, was ahead of him in the rotation even though KPJ has a wider skill set.

Maybe Doc is containing KPJ's minutes to keep him focused on defense.

If he prioritizes developing that part of his game his potential jumps to a different tier as well.

He is being asked to both create for himself and play point of attack defense. That’s not necessarily going to scale up with more PT, especially not efficiently.

I'd love to replace Prince altogether, but we need his ~15 minutes or so a night at the three, and against bench units. We just need to stop with him getting 26 minutes at the two and against primarily starters. Green or GTJ should be in that spot.
