Which player from the 04 championship team would help this squad the most

Post#1 » by AnnArborpiston » Mon Feb 24, 2025 5:02 pm

I might have to go with Tayshaun. I run this exercise most years, and usually come up with Sheed or Billups, but it's really difficult this year. Maybe you put Sheed at center? Rip would be nice too. This is really tough.

Rasheed Wallace, without question. He would be absolutely perfect at the 4.

Man. Pistons need another trade like that. Can you even imagine...

Kinda hard to argue that a floor spacing 4 that can defend and block shots wouldn't be the biggest boost.

Of course, I'd pay good money to watch ausar and holland play defense with big ben cleaning up behind them.

Definitely Sheed. Dumars would be nice as well since he was so good on D and just solid all around on the offensive end

They don't need a Tayshawn Prince, they have Ausar. Rasheed is the easy answer, he'd be a stretch 4 in todays' game that could defend. Add a prime Sheed to this lineup and wow.

Surprised by this. Ben would be my pick, could be a terrible one, but he could guard almost any position I’d think. Let Cade do his thing, the offense might be bad, but the defense be insane

Ben was the most important piece in 2004 no doubt, a culture changing work horse defensive anchor. No chance he has as big of an impact today simply because 40% of FGAs are 3 pointers now... that was 18% in 2004. Ben would still help the team win games but not to the level that someone like Sheed could... plus Sheed's ability to space the floor even more important with some of the guys we have on the roster right now.

Agreed. In the Shroeder/Ivey role. Someone who can shoot threes off the catch but also settle down the offense as needed, be a leader, and absolutely be clutch.

That said, the former Piston I'd most love to see actually play with Cade (in a magical world where you can put together players in their prime)? Grant Hill. Possibly they would both need the ball too much but man I'd love to see it.

Yeah, I 100% understand the Sheed thing. Our obvious need is a stretch 4 and he slots in perfectly.

But Billups/Cade is just too good.

Yeah I'm surprised there's this many people not saying Chauncey. His fit with Cade would be perfect on both ends of the floor.

I get the argument for Rasheed but Chauncey was just a much more impactful overall player in my view.

Love Sheed but Ben is one of the greatest defenders ever.

Chauncey would be my second pick. Good defender and excellent 3pt shooter who play on or off ball or in the post against smaller guards. Him and Cade would be a spectacular back court.

Sheed would be a great stretch 5 in todays NBA.

Sheed is always a 3rd/4th option. Great defender, skilled enough to go toe to toe with the All-Time greats..., but even on a roster with no true #1 he was mid on the pecking order. It's true he was ahead of his time and would undoubtedly up his 3pt fga, but he's still 3rd/4th most nights. He wasn't out to dominate unless you pissed him off.

Hell, I think you can argue that Tobias, when he's being assertive & giving you that efficient 20 is as good if not better offensively. Defensively Sheed was elite in the post and top notch defensive qb. But kinda same role, 3rd/4th.

Chauncey commands the floor every night and would absolutely murder people playing off Cade. It'd be like if Beasley, THj and Ivey had a love child, pumped him full of hgh and taught him to command an army.

Sheed didn’t have “a monster” in his DNA. Which was perfectly fine with the Goin’ to Work team.

Chauncey’s the right answer here for sure, tho we do badly need another really talented big.

Rip would be fun if he could shoot 5-7 threes a game and hit 3-5. Any would be amazing. Just Ausar and Ben had me drooling
