Re: Around The NBA : 2023-24 Season #3
Leon Rose did some amazing things for the knicks the last 2 years.
But that Mikal Bridges deal is going to come back to haunt him and them for years. Bridges is a good player, but 5 first round draft picks (4 being unprotected), there is no way to come back from that. They would have to win the title maybe even more than one to justify that.
Look how we cringe for giving up 2 firsts for Vooch. Bridges is 5. Eugh
Honestly that is like a team willing to give us 3 unprotected first round draft picks for Coby White.

I was shocked by the return. Especially since his value deal ends in a year anyway; only 2 seasons total before unrestricted.
That’s like when everyone was whining about Jimmy only being on a value deal “for 2 seasons” when he was traded (from the Bulls). And that Jimmy was 2x the player. I didn’t understand it. You had a $15m top-ten player with 2y guaranteed, and you’d have his bird rights. We got fleeced.
But on the other end of the spectrum… 4+ unprotected picks? I would never do that for Mikal’s 2y. Now Knicks have no leverage. They must resign Mikal above market value, or he’ll threaten to leave and they’ll look like fools. That means $40m salary at minimum, and they’ll be in deep luxury tax.

I follow the Knicks as they are my local team. I'm not defending the move because it seemed like a massive overpay. That said, on paper Bridges was a near perfect fit in terms of need to be a 3&D guy who can be your 3rd option scorer and is the most durable player in the NBA. Also, it's usually the last key add to contending teams who is the overpay, as GM's go "all in".
The reality, IMO, the trade hasn't payed off in terms of Bridges lifting the Knicks defense. He does make good defensive plays, but he's not a Caruso level difference maker, which is what they really needed to offset KAT's negative impact on defense. It will be interesting to see what the Knicks do from here. I think the key will be how much Robinson can contribute, because that dude is a Caruso-level defender.

I liked the trade too. I just saw the number of picks and was flabbergasted. They effectively got as much for Mikal as they did for Durant (except they got Mikal too). All in all, the Nets ended up with 9 FRPs and 4 swaps for a post-prime FA they signed. Incredible recovery after recovery for a franchise with some of the worst trades (EVER!) in the last 12 years.

Kinda feel bad for the Kings but they are the Kangs what can you do?
8-9 from 3 tonight.
Is Lauri doing that poorly this year that you just spend your time looking for negative things about Lavine to post? Kind of weird. And by kind of, I mean a lot.

Nothing new. We know he can put up numbers against bum teams. He did that plenty of times here
Lauri is doing fine, but jazz are tanking. I'm following the warriors this year
And it's not weird to follow former bulls. I want to see if the change of scenery unlocks a different side of Lavine. So far still the same dead end player

I was hoping he didn’t get traded to Bulls west but here we are.

Down the DRose rabbit hole lol. The drive and layup at 5:35. Rookie Jimmy with a nice jumper at the end.

Dead end player?? Just put him with elite PG and defensive SF and he will be an all star.

If Zach has a bad shooting game with the Kings, it's because DDR makes him worse. If Zach has a good shooting game, it's because Billy's not around. It's Zach Bingo!
At any rate, good for Zach. The narratives break my head, but I do wish him well (and DDR). Nice to see the Kings win games.

Yeah, Zach is a great player. The negative narrative around him stems from the fact that he isn't good enough to be a #1 on a contending team. He's efficient when he gets single coverage, but if there isn't someone else to absorb the double-teams, he becomes inefficient and tries to do more than he can. Demar actually helps him in that regard, but Demar's lack of passing gets teammates out of rhythm...not to mention his defense hurts winning.

It's pretty clear that they are not a great combination, because they have the same skill set (iso scoring) and the same weakness (no defense). Where I disagree is that each affects the other's level of play, because in truth nothing affects either guy. They are iso scorers. That is what they do. Put them on a team with 4 playmakers or 0 playmakers, that is how they will perform.

Deebo has actually been scoring more efficiently since Zach has gotten there, his Feb shooting is great, 51% FG.
In Dec/Jan with Fox he was shooting 46%/47%. More gravity by the 3P line with Lavine? Just a comfort level with Lavine? I don't know.
Whatever the reasons, 4 Ws in the last 6 games for Sac city, and I assume they'll beat Utah for 5 Ws.

Kings aren’t really winning that much .4-4 so far with Zach and schedule has been pretty easy. Beat New Orleans twice, Dallas, Charlotte. Not that impressive, the current bulls can win those games too.
We all know Zach’s strengths and weaknesses but I doubt he will help them win much.
Maybe they’ll make the play ins, that’s their ceiling basically the same level team as they were on the bulls the 10th seed lol.
Even that’s questionable though, I expect Phoenix to pass them eventually for that 10th and final play in spot.

This season is crazy. Our team is ahead of a Philly team with Maxey, Paul George, Embid, Oubre, Lonnie Walker, Drummond, Eric Gordon. That team is injury central.

Did anyone saw Jokic 19assists video?? Thats pure embarrasment for league.. he had maybe 14-15 assists max! This stat padding bs is so annoying.. guys take 2-3 more dribbles before scoring and they count that as assist! Pure crap

Its nothing new to the league. That is because an assist can be subjective.
If you make a pass and the player scores, they consider it an assist. There really isn't any hard line rule to it so its only subjective.

Derrick was improved, Bogans was dropped, Jimmy was a rookie. team was on its way up. The game vs the clippers that season is real good too. Derrick torched prime cp3.

50% injury central
25% overrated players (PG, Oubre, Gordon)
25% they seem to be quitting
A meltdown, regardless.
