The league wants international superstars, but they don't want them to be the face of the league.

You are kidding yourself if you think MJ and Kobe cared more than others. Kobe and MJ were straight up d-bags who due to not coming up in the social media era have been able to market that as "caring".
You think LBJ "doesnt care" when the dude spends $1m+ a year to keep his body right? If he didnt care, why would he play into his 40s with generational wealth locked up?
You seriously think Giannis doesnt care? Or Curry? or any other great player in the league?
All because they don't try in an exhibition game lol

Lebron has shown us plenty of times that he doesn't give the game his all. Now that Luka is a Laker, Lebron has stepped up.
Lebron makes $50m per season and roughly $140m per year off endorsement, but you think he's on a mission to eclipse Jordan?

He's right. But also, a lot of the stars today don't have much personality.

A bunch more stories of 90s stars sh*tting in people's shoes, mouthguards, toothbrushes and heads might help kill more of the nostalgia

3-point chucking is the only thing killing the NBA right now.

Literally since I started watching in the 80s everybody always moans and whines about the NBA. It will NEVER END.
I remember fans hating the style of basketball in the 90s, the defensive slugfests lack of offense etc., and sick of Jordan much like they're sick of Lebron now, back then feeling nostalgia for "The Golden Era" of the 80s. The same will probably happen again 10-15 years from now longing for these days.
I do think the one legit gripe about today is that these games, especially in the regular season, tend to evolve into 3 point chucking contests. Not sure what the league can do to remedy that but it does make some of the regular season games unwatchable. Look, now I'm old man yelling at a cloud haha

Yeah I mean I agree the 3 point spamming and other problems exist, which are basically the result of advanced stats. We keep having threads on possible fixes. Personally I'd start by allowing tighter defense. Right now if you touch a guy on the perimeter, that's a foul.
We all know Adam Silver is weak as F as a commissioner and has no instinct on how to tweak things. He's a suit. I think they need someone who's less of a political lawyer and more of a steward of the game. But not holding my breath.
That said, if it wasn't 3 pointers the whiners would be onto the next issue. I just think some people are always upset at the NBA because, reasons.

He's way too much of a yes man, so intent on being loved by the players. They need someone with balls to make hard decisions, a David Stern clone but he was very unique in that sense. At least somebody different than Adam Silver, anybody.

Am I just getting old for thinking it is a generational thing? Meaning even in the 90's and 2000's, old heads - call them 30 years old or even 60 year olds - still liked the 22 year old ballers & their mentality on the game. Mentality wise, demeanor wise a 45 year old was still "kind of like" a 25 year old due to absence of social media / internet brainwashing. However now a days the younger crowd in their 20's personality wise is just "on average" more unappealing, more fake, etc. Again I may just be misguided as a 32 year old male, but I think social media has really created a huge change in the 20-somethings in the world in general and in turn NBA.
Guys also lack personality nowadays - for reasons including Adam Silver literally fining guys for cursing in postgame interview, for suspending guys who speak out about stuff (Kyrie etc), for giving guys techs for showing emotions during the game. This has only compounded the FAKE and very boring personalities of NBA stars. Even for "quiet" guys in the 2000's like Tim Duncan or Dirk, they were still booming with personality in their own way and had their own distinct demeanor styles. This has made the game way more robotic in terms of selling the game, marketing the game, etc. I feel like they're more marketed as "athletes" today rather than "people" if that makes sense. But you need both to really sell the product.

I think it's because you are so much more exposed to them in the social media age. Remember, guys in their early 20s have always been immature, stupid and cocky MFers in general. I remember how dumb and immature I was then. I thought I knew everything too.

I want to see variety. Deep 3's, short 3's, long 2's, midrange, midrange post, midrange triple-threat, low post, hooks, layups, dunks, etc..
The hunt for 3pnt shots is turning the game into a math equation. The NBA is already a make or miss league. When the majority of makes or misses are 3's, it only exacerbates the problem.
I'm not sure what the actual numbers are, but it feels like we get more and more blowout games every year. The number of 'blowouts' at halftime has to be up. It really doesn't matter if the game is close in the end if nobody is there to watch it. How many people stuck around for the end of the OKC vs. MIN game tonight?
