If the old heads got their way and the NBA went back to low scoring, low iq iso ball, the league would quickly become a fringe sport like hockey. Which is probably what they want tbh.

They don’t want today’s stars to outshine their childhood heroes. That’s what all of this is really about, it has nothing to do with ratings.

The legacies of MJ and Kobe must be protected at all costs.

i dont see the problem...why are people so against 3-point chucking but so excited about long 2 chucking?

I want to see variety. Deep 3's, short 3's, long 2's, midrange, midrange post, midrange triple-threat, low post, hooks, layups, dunks, etc..

The hunt for 3pnt shots is turning the game into a math equation. The NBA is already a make or miss league. When the majority of makes or misses are 3's, it only exacerbates the problem.

I'm not sure what the actual numbers are, but it feels like we get more and more blowout games every year. The number of 'blowouts' at halftime has to be up. It really doesn't matter if the game is close in the end if nobody is there to watch it. How many people stuck around for the end of the OKC vs. MIN game tonight?

Everything you said is still a big part of the game except long twos. They’ve simply replaced those with threes.

Was watching John Paxson pass up an open three to step in to a long two (lol) really that great?

Is the league truly suffering from the lack of Bill Cartwright post ups?

The fact that it's always a constant debate of the new era vs old era, is an indictment on the new era/new product, along with ratings, etc. All the talk about the new era having better offense, more complex defense, better skilled athletes, etc. So if that's the case why are the ratings down and players constantly being ridiculed?

You can't just sit around and say "Oh it's nostalgia" or "Old man yelling at the cloud" narrative. If it's so good the games would speak for themselves, but they aren't and will continue to be criticized.

I couldn't careless what Frye thinks. The 90s may not have been perfectly clean (no era is) but there's a reason why many who witnessed it enough still have such fond memories of it. You had more variety. Everything thats great about the NBA began in the mid-late 80s, and continued to get better through the 90s and on forward as far as international players coming in and becoming main stay pieces in starting line ups, etc. The 3 point shot was utilized fine, and you had your traditional big men. Your explosive slasher big men, mid range buckets, team defense, and better quality all star games. I wouldn't change a thing about that. Todays league? ill change a lot.

The 90’s was a weak era for basketball, and the popularity of the league was propped up by one guy.

Remove MJ from the 90’s and we’d view that decade about as fondly as we do the 70’s.

Wrong. Ewing and the Knicks were popular through the whole 90s, then came Alonzo Mourning and the Hornets. LJ, the rise of Shaquille O'Neal and Penny in Orlando, Stockton and Malone, Reggie Millers clutch shots and the Miller time beer commercials were a huge hit, The 96 draft class. I can go on and on. Only thing you revealed just now is how casual you are to that time. Thinking 1 man was behind all of that. Jordan was Major part of it all, but the rest of those stars around the league did their part at keeping fans watching as well.

Removing Mike from it is just your own wishful thinking for whatever reason.

Wrong. When MJ retired, ratings collapsed (in an era where TV ratings still mattered).

Ewing’s Knicks were in the ‘94 Finals and they didn’t move the needle.

The ‘90s were a weak era of basketball outside of 1 player. We have the receipts.

MJ retired twice in the 90’s and ratings collapsed both times.

If you think guys like Penny Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning were going to carry the league in his place, you’re delusional.

AD is a klutch client.....Not the case for Luka. And Lebron had no idea before this trade according to shams.Just stop for once.I trust way more Shams that your false story

And one of the other ridiculous thing but you will never admit, is that Harden did not deserve to be an all-star this year, Powell was the best clippers players this year

The average team shot 40% from midrange during the period you are talking about. That’s terrible offense. Team defense is far better today than it was back then. Players were standing around far more on the defensive end back then due to defensive rules and increased prevalence of post-ups.

If you think the 90’s was perfect I implore you to go and watch an average game from that period. It was not good in the exact same way that you might say an average game today was not good.
