The Raptors are successful in only 44% of challenges, which is last in the league. Knicks are the most successful (79%). Discuss.

My only gripe about this is the times where Darko does it only to placate Scottie but you can tell he's not convinced. I get it, you're still essentially a newbie coach. But next year, in year 3, it's time to man up and just ignore whoever is imploring you to challenge. Especially in the 1H FFS.

I was talking to buddie and we have concluded challenging on dumb **** is Darkos way of slightly tanking
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Yeah was gonna say supporting your players is probably more important than getting the call right this season

For future years, it also helps to reinforce in players minds, that while they might see the call a certain way, the refs won't, and they should trust in a 3rd party (coach) to make the call on challenging or not.

So get it out of the way this year, in a tanking year, and then in future years, maybe Scottie and others will be less likely to press their coach for calls, when so many went against them this year.

there are also a few times recently where I feel like he hasn't challenged because he doesn't want to win the challenge either. We are giving Darko alot of credit for covert tanking. lol Losing on the margins and putting players in positions to fail at critical points while maximizing the vibes. I have some doubts this is what is happening but I'm willing to pretend until next season.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Scottie and Boucher seem to want to challenge any close 50/50 play and likely they are wrong.

You should like get a $1000 fine if you're wrong. Pool the money and at the end of the season split it all evenly to all players and staff.

Maybe the Raptors stole the wrong area of data from the Knicks.

Boucher wanted a challenge on a nothing call early in the Celtics game. Darko ignored him.

Win rate is inversely correlated with total challenges: top 10 teams averaging 32 challenges so far, bottom 10 average 39. Should that be viewed positively? Some of those teams with higher win rates should probably challenge more.

Spo with only 10 challenges to date is hilarious. Average is 38.

I am unsure he will change from a sympathy coach to a fact coach. Nurse was a fact coach, and players don't like it.
Next year would be his last year on his contract, yes, 3rd year, so it is up to him to show better result. Barrett showed his style works, and perhaps if he can get the 2025 1st round pick to perform. Or somehow Barnes ...

Agreed. The FO needs to start holding Darko accountable to metrics that contribute to success/ winning after this season.

Use of challenges is one of them.

This is a good year to be worst in the league at challenges.

Watching Darko, he seems to prioritize how emphatically his core guys argue a call and cry about review. I'm convinced this is something that'll naturally evolve over time, especially as winning replaces development over the next couple of years.

He's still letting a low 70s FT shooter take technicals to pad his stats. Is this Darko or just organizational rot?

You don't need to challenge (show up the ref), if you already have their ear, and are getting the calls.

Not surprising if you look at the kind of challenges. There are numerous times you can see the failed challenge from a mile away and if I can see that, they should, too, or at least learn.

Darko is so bad at the challenges, that I also do believe its his stealth way of tanking. However, to the Raps defense there have been some pretty bad calls even on challenges. Its like when we played OKC and Boucher being called for a flagrant trying to defend a 3PT shot by SGA. The Ref saying Boucher was 5 FT out from SGA so had no chance to block it and his foot landing near SGA's foot was intention to injure.
