Julius Randle
They have a PO worth 30 million this summer... What are they going to do with him? He declines his option and they extend him for a larger number and give him more years..?.. The problem is that they also have to extend Naz (who already declined his PO).. Is there a market for Randle? Which one? Is there a trade for Randle that makes sense?

Naz Reid opted out? I didn't see any news about it...
I don't think Randle opts out, if he does, I think Wolves let him go...

If that's the case, I think that if they could, they would look for a new home for Randle ... but where? ..
As for Naz rejecting their option, I read it here in Spain... I'm sure there must be more information in the American media, I suppose.

He hasn’t declined it yet. Reports are just stating that he is likely to opt out and enter free agency. So, it’s not set in stone yet, so to speak. It’s just LIKELY.

Re: Julius Randle
I think Randle only opts out if there’s a sign and trade lined up. Even then, it’s probably better to just extend and trade him* (shouldn’t trigger a hard cap for his new team, would need someone willing to pay him 27-29mil for a few years.
I think a deal ends up looking like
Randle to “..” that sort of wants him
10-15 million to third team
15 million to Minnesota
Say..
Bogdan and the OKC (LAC) first to Chicago
DJJ to Minnesota
Randle and the Det first to LAC
I don’t think LA has any plans of going over the fiesr apron next year so the deal can be done like that.
If you are worried, we can send Dunn to Chicago or Minnesota. That allows LAC to spend over the first apron.
LAC extends Randle for a couple years to keep the Leonard years going.
You could probably sub DJJ out for Eubanks and Dunn which is kind of interesting to me for LAC. Minn might take both those guys as cheap-ish depth...
Outside of the bad LAC idea?
Charlotte has some ugly money and might want to try anything to get better next season..
OKC can match his salary, but should not extend him.. if they want to listen to their fans and add some size/offense for a year, there’s some interesting matching options.

I like the idea of Randle to LAC.. especially if they can keep DJJ and not extend Randle beyond KL contract..
Randle to LAC
Bogdan to Magic
Dunn/Eubanks to Wolves
G.Harris/Caleb Houstan/Howard to NETS

What’s the deadline for Randle to accept/decline his PO? Might put a wrench in things.

I have Randle as worth clearly more than DJJ. Why is Minnesota giving up a first?
I have Randle as a better player than Brandon Ingram, so I think that trade is a good starting point for value.
I like the fit of Randle in LAC and quite a few other teams. He is a decent volume scorer and playmaker but a bit challenging to fit on rosters.

They are typically standardized to a date. Last year was June 29th.

It’s one of those comically useless, Jake Fischer™ reports.
“Naz Reid is getting buzz on social media, how can I insert myself into the conversation without blatantly lying? Let’s say that teams are preparing for free agency with the expectation that Naz Reid will opt-out of his Player Option. Brilliant!”

My assumption is that the Brooklyn Nets may be interested in acquiring Julius Randle (should they not find ideal targets in free-agency), or Minnesota will figure out a three-team deal where they receive back a smaller contract.

I can't see Minnesota resigning Randle then attaching a 1st to deal him unless they think DJJ or Eubanks/Dunn are worth more than the first.

Our boy Keith Smith has mentioned this as well.
He said that if the new MIN owners are trying to cut payroll, it wouldn’t be hard to get off of Julius Randle’s $31 mil is he opts in, suggesting BRK might take him straight up (or with a MIN prospect) for cap space. Randle isn’t a bad player, and he’d be an expiring so the Nets could keep their cap space available for 2026 which could have a much better set of free agents available.
But this one is really hard to predict. From the Wolves side, MIN only has three decent bigs on the entire roster (Gobert, Naz, Randle .. maybe the new Jaden) so they need his size. They were also rolling with Randle in a new, point forward role, that Julius seemed to really enjoy. And that matters. Knicks fans reminded me that after Randle was named second team All NBA, he took a new deal for less than the max, to try to gives the Knicks front office more ability to add talent. If he likes his role (who knows, with Naz rising) and the team is winning, you might see him pick up the option or even extend - something I would have thought was crazy three months ago.

I wouldn’t call it resigning Randle? He has a player option. Minnesota has no choice there.. the extension idea is the Clippers and would just be getting him locked up to match Leonard’s deal or an extra year or two given LAC’s pick debt runs through 2029..
But maybe you are right and the Det first isn’t needed.
I do think there’s a lot of value in cutting 20 million of unwanted salary and bringing in someone that would play 25mpg… And I’ve always been lower on Randle than the majority vote here so could have missed on value.
I do think Minnesota would be happy to turn Randle’s 31 million into Eubanks and Dunn though due to the huge savings and they both make some roster sense for Minnesota’s bench next season.. And LAC would be able to maneuver under the apron and keep DJJ out of it.
Should’ve just posted that version.

Re: Julius Randle
Another random bad idea?
Build Randle to Phoenix in a KD trade?
Phoenix end up getting Randle, Jock, “Reed”, 2027 Phoenix (or the 2029 first instead?).. Then Minnesota can convert Dillion Brooks down to 15 million using some fourth team (or take it even further using 4th and a 5th team).. I like it better with Brooks/Randle for KD and Phoenix getting picks back. But not sure if that is legal unless Phoenix can get under the second apron? Seems like it could work either way.
Phoenix getting Randle and extending him has to make some sense given their pick debt..
There’s probably a Miami deal around that idea? Randle, Robinson to Phoenix with the GSW first and another asset from Miami? JJJ, Jovic something like that? Then somehow shave Rozier contract down (and Slomo somewhere..) complicated but seems possible.

Re: Julius Randle
Randle (picks up his PO along with Leonard Miller to the Nets for nothing? The WOLVES free up space to extend Naz and hopefully NAW and get a big TPE.. The NETS move some of their space to 2026 free agency (with better players and a bit further along in their rebuild), while probably being able to get more value for Randle at the upcoming deadline and a prospect to keep an eye on....

Re: Julius Randle
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't think it'll be as trivially easy to just dump Randle for a guy making half his salary as people are making it out to be. You're gonna need a cap space team that's either interested in Randle or willing to eat $10-20M in salary from a third team, which will probably cost incentive that Minnesota doesn't really have...

Re: Julius Randle
Randle reminds me of DDR in a way in that they are very good players (not good enough to build around)..but a tough fit.. Randle to SPURS for Barnes..? seems like a good fit with VW, would give them a strong interior presence, he would be expiring anyway....and the Wolves get a good veteran and payroll cut

Re: Julius Randle
The Nets won't take on Randle for free. He doesn't fit how they play, and they'd be seeking out a far better use of their monopoly on cap space. I think it's more likely that the Nets would make a strong offer for Naz if they're targeting someone from Minnesota.
