It was reported that Rich Paul knew but didn't tell either player because it would've compromised the deal. Ultimately Rich Paul thought it would be best for AD because he had been complaining about the FO for a while. That's evidenced by AD waiving his trade kicker.

I think if it gets out to LeBron and AD this deal doesn't happen because somebody ends up leaking "Lakers and Mavs are actively discussing Luka to LA", and then the whole league floods in. I'm inclined to believe that very few people knew.

Poor AD knows he has to win a Dallas ring or his legacy of softness will be confirmed and he will be the historical butt of jokes if Luka wins a few

And Dallas almost has to extend AD at a price not much less than Luka's supermax would've been. You're paying old crumbling AD as much as prime Luka.

Huh? AD's legacy is secure, he already won a ring as one of the main guys and he's been an all-nba guy for a very long time. Anyone who doesn't think he's terrific is delusional. Sure he has flaws but so does every player.

I believe Lebron at least knew on the night of the trade but what we suspect doesn't matter. He had no right to block that trade or leak it to AD. That's choosing friendship over what's best for the organization. LAL fans would be bitter with Lebron for life.

Yeah I can buy that. And I guess the implication is Rich and LeBron are childhood friends and LBJ probably was made aware…? But what sort of agent would tell one client and not his teammate, who was actually involved?

Yeah I just can’t get there with the whole LeGM stuff. He can’t just walk up to Pelinka and say I want Luka, everyone in the world thought he was untouchable before it happened. Seems much more likely that the two guys with a pre-existing relationship (Pelinka/Nico) cooked this up.

Of course Lebron knew about the trade. Teams never make any moves without checking with LeGM first.

Nah, even his momma would've made that trade. I still can't believe it happened.

Of course he knew. Was that even in doubt before?

It really wouldnt make much sense for AD to be saying that, considering how buddy buddy he was with Bron the night of the game.

i think its really weird that so many people are convinced he knew. what would the purpose of him knowing be? He didnt create the trade and the Lakers clearly were not looking to get the best player to work strictly on LeBrons time line. This idea that LeBron has to give the go ahead on everything is getting pretty carried away at this point.

I actually don't think so after seeing a recent interview with Jeannie Buss. Reading between the lines she seemed to indicate that LeBron wasn't initially thrilled, and it wasn't because he didn't want to play with Luka, he didn't like that he wasn't privy to it because they were so secretive about it. I don't think Klutch even knew about it, (Adam Silver might have). I believe the report that this trade was so nuclear only 4 people knew to avoid a premature leak, Nico, Pelinka, Buss, and Dumont.

They may have even attempted the Mark Williams trade without his blessing and he nixed it because it hurt his ego that they didn't even consult him about that. There might be a behind the scenes fight between LeBron and Luka over who is the GM now already

I'm sure that in a trade like this maybe both could have found out before the report gave the news, but I don't think they would have told LeBron individually even a day before... Pelinka or Buss are smart enough to know that telling LeBron and not Davis could generate a problem for LeBron that is bigger than them and could go out publicly to blame them

because what reason does there have to tell LeBron about something that are going to do Even if he asks you not to do it, and that LeBron himself would take less than 1 second to give the green light because the trade is a gift for the Lakers... It doesn't make sense to put LeBron between the sword for something that everyone would do.

I don’t think the four principles told anyone. They were going to do the deal anyway all telling anyone else would’ve done is either put them in a compromised position (LeBron), or risk letting the rest of the league know (Ainge, Paul etc).

Ok. But he knew and the whole found out at a restaurant thing was terrible PR BS.

Klutch and the Lakers aren’t trading AD without James signing off.

He needs to get out of his feelings and realize he would make the same deal. Why wouldn't you trade a hundred dollar bill for 5 hundred dollars. it's simple.

Luka is 26 and just 6 years younger. It's not a significant difference.

I think he’s just saying Lebron knew about the Trade before he did.
