Re: How bout that AB!
Right now, AB is an awful fit next to Paolo and Franz. He needs to improve so much that idk if he will be here much longer. However I remember that Suggs didn't become the Suggs we love until year 3. His first two years were filled with injuries, inconsistent play, couldn't shoot. Similar to Ab then year 3 we got our all NBA defensive guard. Im giving AB to show something long term of value next year. If by the end of next year he doesn't solidy himself as a valuable rotation player somehow, then its time to trade him.

Probably right...but probably shouldn't...take a step back and look at what he ACTUALLY does. That's $15.5m per. He's not that guy...maybe he will be, but it would be criminal to overpay him a year early when he'll just be an RFA.
Unless you're thinking NEXT year is the year when he'll absolutely take a leap and we're smart enough to lock him in
there's no reason to extend a player early unless you're getting a stupid discount.. for a team that will be cap'd after this summer why attach a higher $ amount to an inconsistent rookie that will only hurt his trade value
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Yeah, there is no way we extend him early. He still has two seasons of development in front of him.MartinsIzAfraud wrote:Skybox wrote:eyriq wrote:He'll probably get extended at > 10% of the cap is my guess

Stranger things have happened. At the same time, if he could shoot 35-37% from 3 on volume Suggs would arguably be expendable and our 3rd option would be found and promptly secured.
He still has that as his ceiling, but as someone else mentioned him being a possible 7-8 rotation guy does seem to be his floor as well.

Waiting for guys to definitively prove to the world that they can't play at an NBA level before moving them isn't likely to bring you anything back.

-he could also average 12 assists
-he could also be DPOY
-he could also lead the league in blocked shots
-he could also become Markelle Fultz without the injury story

The thing is, he did have a career bad shooting spree. At the same time he is also averaging what I posted above the last 19 games. So I went with something that could hopefully actually scale.

Re: How bout that AB!
AB is unplayable with this current roster. He is a liability out there. When a 50yo Corey Joseph makes the team look better then you, you know you need to be waived. Awful pick

Trade him for a 2nd round pick. Trade that for cash considerations. Trade that for bitcoin.
He is collecting sophmore rookie walls it seems like at the moment. Oof.

I don't want to give on Black because he has potential but at some point, he has to be consistent. I think the organization considered him the future starting PG but if he can't play over freaking Corey Joseph, that is a problem.

Re: How bout that AB!
Last two game, AB has at least proved he can get to the stripe when his game isn't going his way. He needs to continue that and have the defense try and bully him some for a kickout. Some kinda pick and roll where Paolo / Franz get the shorter guard, he cuts and dishes to either for a Karl Malone type jumper or a 3-ball. Why this isn't a legit drawn up play baffles me.

Re: How bout that AB!
He's already a top 20 guard defender, which alone earns him a rotation role on most teams right now and makes him a good prospect worth developing. His playmaking, FTr, and improved shooting provide glimpses into his potential on offense.JoshuaPotter wrote:Last two game, AB has at least proved he can get to the stripe when his game isn't going his way. We want more offensive impact right now but honestly for point guards it takes 3 or 4 seasons before they are even passable on offense.

Exactly, and he is showing potential still. Finding ways to offensively impact the game and take control of his own destiny even when his shot doesn't drop is what we need to see from him. "Offensive versatility".

Re: How bout that AB!
I'm sorry but this is getting to be like Bizarro Paolo analysis...
1) 22yo Paolo goes for an "inefficient" 30 pts with 5 & 5 and gets dissected for it
2) 21yo AB scores 3, passes up open shots, and hears "did you guys see his footwork in the second half of the 3rd quarter? In 3 more rookie seasons, he'll be an All-Star"

it's reaching Fultz/Payton levels of absurdity. oh man did you see him he tied his shoes and dribbled the ball up the court

thing is ...I really liked Fultz and I like AB too, but "he's going to start shooting next year" just doesn't make any sense...we didn't recruit this raw physical marvel from some remote African village...he's been playing his entire life and today's "kids" have so much Travel Team, Camps, AAU, Sport-specific training, etc level coaching and competition that you just can't excuse basic basketball stuff...you can really only refine things a bit when they get to the NBA, in my opinion, you just can't expect something entirely different to suddenly appear after X number of games, seasons, minutes played, etc happens.

Now why did you put it that way? Black is already better in that category.
