How does Jokic have two heavily viewed national TV losses and move up in MVP rankings?

Because he's still having a goat offensive season with a 2k like carry job. And SGA has lost 2 out of 3 to the Timberwolves

Jokic's opponent dropped 22 points on the other end, but yeah, great game on one side of the ball, as per usual.
Does that mean Porter Jr played great on defense since Kuzma sucked? Man some people have no clue...
Missing the point. We all acknowledge they crapped the bed. We just also acknowledge Jokic did too.
Nuggets scored 68 pts in the paint against the Bucks. The highest given up by the Bucks this season. If we are using that criteria both Giannis and Lopez crapped the bed. As a side note Nuggets only gave up 42 pts in the paint 26 pts fewer than a Giannis and Lopez defensive front court. So who got cooked here
You didn’t even watched the game. So eager to hate on Jokic. You are easy work

For one he was awesome in the Bucks game. 2ndly Jokic and SGA's traditional and advanced stats are so close that a reasonable MVP ranking could flip week to week based on vibes.

Yep. I think that each loss makes it more likely that SGA gets it, but no one who watched the Bucks game would ding him. He was superb. The Lakers game he wasn't up to his normal standards.

He was an incredible source of offence for the Bucks

Brook Lopez looked like giannis taking joker off the dribble and dunking on him last night.
In all seriousness, he had a good showing. Tough loss though. Wont help his mvp odds losing these big nationally televised games.

A player just dropped a 32 point triple double on 82% TS and you’ve decided to waltz in here and crap on his performance. Amazing. BTW it’s tough to evaluate individual games, but Jokic’s EPM prior (which incorporates defensive tracking data) has Jokic at a +5.1

What’s the reason why you seem to prefer SGA to win the MVP? I think even you acknowledged that they’re very close in traditional and advanced stats

Jokic had a good gm but the best player on the floor was easily Giannis and he missed some easy drives he usually makes.

He was not. I wrote about it after several people who apparently didn't watch the game claimed the same thing in yesterday's game thread, particularly that Lopez scoring 20 meant he'd torched Jokic, despite him shooting 7/16 and having only two of those 7 made field goals come with Jokic guarding him (with one being a 27 ft three pointer that Jokic contested, so you live with that).
Instead of having him drop like they normally do, the Nuggets had Jokic come high and hedge and slide with the ball handler in the pick and roll while the on ball defender got through the pick. I assume they respected Lopez's screens and Dame's shooting. Almost all Lopez's field goals came when he had been picked up by another defender while Jokic contained the ball handler (and one where Jokic did come back to Lopez to help Christan Braun, but Braun didn't position himself correctly for a help defender coming from the middle and Lopez spun baseline away from Jokic on him). Jokic actually guarded Giannis pretty competently. I actually thought better than Gordon, who Giannis was able to back down.
You can criticize Jokic's defense at times, but last night wasn't one of those times.

He's 40yrs old, cut him a little freaking slack. Given he puts up 25/8/9, you can't expect him to also be playing elite defense, certainly not at his age. It's ridiculous that you can't appreciate what he's doing as if it's just empty stats, meanwhile they have the 7 best record in the league this season.canada_dry wrote:Defense means nothing here? Just pts/reb/assists?dautjazz wrote:Obviously Lebron is not winning the MVP this season, but it's insane how well he's played this season. I personally would have him on the All-NBA first team. Giannis would be the other forward. Tatum is having a great season, but his scoring is not MUCH higher than Lebron, and then Lebron's rebounding and assists are much higher, not to mention his offensive efficiency is significantly higher as well. Celtics are expected to be doing better, while the Lakers are doing far better than expected.

Absolutely absurd stat lines to check into. Been watching Boston-Cleveland. But every single night it looks like:
Nikola Jokic 25-15-15, sets some obscure record for most rebounds+assists in a season, +17
SGA 33-5-4 with steals, +38
You could set your watch to these two. They make excellence look so regular and so easy. This is an MVP race for the absolute ages.

Bucks best player last night was MPJ. Don’t lie.
