(honestly don't think i'd love trading for him if things do play out that way, tbh. might just go hard on iOL guys in the draft and try to sign someone like zeitler as a stopgap)
the only thing stupider than paying a top 10 guard a top 5 TACKLE salary would be then trading for him
and yes, it will effectively be a top 5 tackle salary. because there is no guard franchise tag. it applies to the entire line

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
Shemar Stewart is potentially going to be a great get "Diamond in the rough" type. 1 year of great DL training & he should be a Pro Bowl type end.
Scouting summary:
Scouting Report: Summary
The film shows a defensive force tailor-made for an aggressive 4-3 system where he can pin his ears back and attack upfield. Stewart's explosive get-off and natural power translate perfectly to a wide-9 alignment, allowing him to set a devastating edge while maintaining the flexibility to reduce inside on passing downs. His ability to stack and shed while maintaining gap integrity will make him a day one starter against the run.
The pass rush toolkit needs expansion, but the raw materials are there in spades. When Stewart converts his speed to power, he destroys offensive tackles' anchor and collapses the pocket with frightening consistency. That foundation, combined with his rare bend at 290 pounds, suggests a ceiling as a dominant three-down defender once his hand usage catches up to his physical gifts. His rapid in-game adjustments and willingness to counter offensive line techniques hint at untapped potential as a rusher.
Looking at the tape, Stewart reminds me of a young (slightly smaller) Calais Campbell - a physical freak who needed technical refinement but possessed the rare traits to dominate once the lightbulb came on. The flashes of brilliance are too frequent to ignore, particularly when he strings together his power moves with his natural bend. Give him two years of NFL coaching, and Stewart has legitimate All-Pro potential as a moveable chess piece along the defensive front.

I've been high on Shamar Stewart for a while. With solid coaching he could be a future All Pro.

He has to explain to teams why his production didn't align with his elite athleticism.

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
As of right now I'm inclined to want to move down from #10 with the goal of getting another 2nd round pick in this draft that's deep on the defensive line. Someone mentioned a few weeks back about possibly trading #10 and our 5th rounder @ 149 for Denver's #20 and #51. The trade grades out perfectly. Then with #20 I'm taking Tyler Booker. He's got one of the highest floors in the draft. He could anchor our interior O-Line for a decade. From all accounts a real locker room leader. He'd start on Day 1. And I would still go hard on picking up Will Fries for the other guard slot.
With #39 I'd draft Landon Jackson of Arkansas as our other EDGE. He's got good size and he's grading out very well at the combine. Over a 40 inch vertical for a guy close to 270 pounds, and pretty fast as well.
With #41 I'm drafting defensive line help. I like the size and measurements of Alfred Collins of Texas. He demonstrated a lot of untapped potential later in the season at Texas. He's grading out pretty well at the combine also.
With #51 It depends on whether we can add a starting offensive guard in free agency. Will Fries or at least Kevin Zeitler. If we have I'd look at Kaleb Johnson the Iowa RB or Xavier Watts the Safety from ND. If we haven't signed FA help on the O-Line then I'm taking Tate Rutledge from Georgia. Having 2 rookie guards would not be ideal but they are both from SEC powerhouse programs, multi year starters. By year 2 we'd have a very solid interior of the O-Line provided we sign our biggest need in FA, which is Drew Dalman.

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
When I read about how much some of these FA's are expected to sign for, I'm more inclined to try to draft for our needs rather than overspend in FA. There's talk Dalman could demand as much as 17-18 mil. 15 mil seems almost his floor. That's a rich contract for a guy that's not all that great.
If we pencil in taking an Edge at 10, and either two guards or a guard and a center in round 3, that leads us needing just one more IOL. A guy like Zeitler should go for under 10 mil on a 1-2 year deal.
Use the 3rd round pick on another D or O lineman, or a RB if they really like someone. Use the 5th on a safety.

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
I'd also seriously consider that trade down I think that would be a great way to get a lot of talent on our lines and I do think we need a fair amount of quantity. One thing that would make me pause is this is hopefully the highest we will draft in a while so if there is a blue chipper available at 10 I would consider it even if it is not a huge need but I don't want to reach for an Edge or OT there if there isn't a guy that stands out I'd rather trade down and get two guys and hedge bets at that point. I think we need far more help on the IOL anyway and those guys tend to be available later so I don't mind not going OL on that first pick.
This is where I don't mind the idea of taking Jeanty. What I like about him is it sounds like he's a great kid with a strong work ethic and well balanced skill set seems like he is able to get through people well and has speed once he does and then it also sounds like he had good consistency. I guess the part I'm not too sure of is how much he separates himself from the rest of the pack of RB but I would consider him and a great RB could really help take pressure off the OL and Caleb so IMO it's the next best thing to getting a good OL player.

Safety Nick Emmanwori reached a top speed of 23.53 mph on his 4.38u forty, tied for the third-fastest speed by a safety over the last three Combines.
Emmanwori also posted an official 43" vertical & 11'6" broad jump.
The Dude is 6' 3'" and weighs 220. Late First round game changer.

I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to drafting Warren (or Loveland). TE is far from out top need but I believe that their talent level is high enough to justify picking them (assuming we have a good free agency plan). I don’t think Kmet is in the long term plans and Johnson can really get creative to someone like Warren.
If we sign a starting DE and 2-3 starters on the OL, I’d be open to using our first on something other than DL/OL. Sometimes taking best player available trumps taking biggest need

As stated before, the best OL don’t make it to FA. You draft or trade for them.
Idk if that’s necessarily true. Joe thuney is some that comes to mind from a couple of years ago. Trey smith may have been the “hottest” available OL but you can argue that Ronnie Stanley is better, he’s just older and has the injury history. I actually like that this deal happened. I assume it would set the market the market for this years free agent OTs. And if that’s true, I think signing Stanley to that deal is a no brainer.

If we wanted to draft a TE that high, we should have done it last year with Brock Bowers.
