A 5th is dog bleep value for a player of Deebo's caliber. Selling low on him is idiotic.

I'll miss 2021 Deebo but I'm not going to miss 2024 Deebo that struggled to beat coverage by LBs.

He might get renengerized to work harder with a new team but with us his effort was lacking once he got paid.

The offense looked a lot better the final two games when they featured Ricky more than Deebo.

Still love Deebo and the awesome plays he had for us but after 2024 it was clear they needed to go their separate ways.

Hate to see Deebo go. Dude is a 1 of 1 type of talent who has made monster plays and can be truly electric with the ball in his hands.

However, he hasn't been the same guy since signing his extension. Last season he was much more of a detriment than an asset. Also, while he can be electric with the ball in his hands, a lot of times his touches have to be manufactured. He's just not remotely polished as a pure WR. He relies almost entirely on scheme and struggles mightily to get open on his own. His playing style is also not conducive to longevity, and he's already been pretty susceptible to getting hurt.

For me, the biggest thing to this move is how is Kyle going to engineer the offense without Deebo? On the + side, this if going to force Kyle to re-think and re-design his scheme. Deebo was the straw that stirred the drink, and we saw many times how the offense stagnated when Deebo was not available. Kyle relied on all the misdirection, pre-snap motion, and Deebo's ability to line up anywhere to keep defense's guessing. Having said that, constantly putting Deebo in the backfield not only progressively made the offense more and more predictable, but also took a receiver basically out of the equation on passing plays which takes a lot of pressure off defenses.

On a side note to Kyle redesigning the offense, hopefully he makes Juice more of a complimentary/bit type, than every down player.

Getting a 5th round pick for a player like Deebo doesn't seem great, however Deebo has not been a high end asset for awhile now, is on a very expensive contract and SF gets some cap relief with this move. We will need to see what comes of the draft pick to fully evaluate the move, but this regime's track record in the 5th round is good.

So all in all, this can be a + move. If anything we should take it as a sign that Kyle realizes its time to re-invent his scheme.

Seems like the offense has gone away from Deebo since Purdy took over with BA being Purdy's no one guy and more downfield passing compared to.Jimmy G. BAs numbers jumped up.after Purdy took over. Deebo was still running the ball which became ineffective compared to earlier years

Deebo Samuel wanted to leave, the value just wasn't quite there. Understandably given the struggle he had in 24. I think both sides saw the writing on the wall. It's pretty clear, like Armstead, he did not want a paycut and by requesting a trade early, got ahead of that. The team had enough interest out there to seek and found the best deal as they saw fit. Obviously, in hindsight, they do it last year during the draft for the 2nd round pick (guess it was between PIT/NE, supposedly).

49ers take the dead money hit now and get draft comp back, when it was previously thought they would release him and make him a post-June 1 to split the dead money between 25 and 26. A trade is certainly more of a 26 move, as it sheds over 30M in cap next year.

Generally I'd say that's true but I do think that when you're Super Bowl window is strong I'd say it's better to be aggressive and load the team up with as much talent as possible.

So playing devil's advocate I can understand why they kept Deebo since we're just fresh off a Super Bowl lost, going into the next season with most that team intact, and probably the biggest thing is Aiyuk's status being completely uncertain they probably didn't want a scenario where they lost Aiyuk and Deebo in one offseason leaving them without their #1 and #2 WRs when you're plan is another Super Bowl run.

Because I did think Belichick who always drafted and traded players looking long term probably cost the Patriots another title or two with this philosophy.

I actually am glad they got something for Deebo and just eating all the cap hit this season.

We've needed a year to clean up the dead money that's been building up and to get younger and reset the roster a bit so might as well make 2025 the year do get it done and over with.

Would you trade BA for a 2nd? Maybe get Cooper for cheap in FA and extend JJ?

Trading BA leaves the 49ers thin at WR. I would stick with BA this year.

He may not even come back fully healthy and in shape until mid season

If 2025 is going to be a bit of a retooling kind of season I say trade him and lets eat as much dead money as we can to clear the books for 2026 and beyond.

We can sign someone like Davante Adams to be a bit of a short-term stop gap for a year or two while we restock.

A group of Adams, Pearsall, Jennings, Kittle, and CMC is still a pretty solid group of guys for the offense to work with.

What the Rams are doing is the model to follow in that they were aggressive with their SB window and once that started to fall apart they cleaned up their books, stockpiled their picks, and used good drafting to gear up for another run.

I don't think we have to go quite to the extremes the Rams did because if they nail this offseason we can quickly be back in a spot of legit contention but it's clear we need to start transitioning the team to it's next phase and to avoid a painful transition they need to start now.

Jennings and Kittle are the only two we can be sure about at this point. We don't know what CMC is going to look like this year. Pearsall showed some late season promise but it is too early to tell how effective he is going to be next season.

Regarding Adams, that is iffy at best. Adams is owed about $35 mil over the next couple of years. The 49ers are not going to take on his contract. So the Jets would have to release him first and then he would have to agree to a team friendly deal. That could happen although there are other teams that could pursue him and he may follow Rogers.

All due respect, that is cap fantasy talk. I don't see how we would even move Aiyuk. His dead money hit would be $40 million if we trade him. Even post-June 1 it would be $25 million. It would be insane to move off that contract now. Not to mention that his value could not be lower, coming off a serious injury. I really don't like the handling of the Deebo contract - mostly the restructure last offseason. But Aiyuk has to play three years of his contract or it has to be among the league-worst contracts ever.

In terms of signing Adams, he's still going to be very expensive. In a very messy situation, he still went over 1,000 yards and had 8 TDs. I'm not sure we could sign him to a short-term deal. Why would he want a short-term deal at this stage in his career? He'll either go to a contender - probably not us without Deebo and Aiyuk - or find a team that will give him a three-year deal.

If the Jets cut Adams, I wouldn't doubt if we try to bring him in on a cheaper deal. I'm just not sure if he is a great locker room guy, feel like he is always bitching about something but could be wrong on that
