The Hornets feel remarkably, consistently hopeless.

Since rejoining the NBA in the 2004-2005 season, Charlotte has made the postseason three times and has a postseason record of 3-12. Currently, they have two players on their roster that another team would be interested in (LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller). Brandon Miller is fine, but it's hard to say he has much more than fringe all-star upside. LaMelo has a lot of potential if healthy, but LaMelo is pretty clearly never going to be healthy. The rest of the roster can probably be written off and it's like... We're so many years into a seemingly endless rebuild. They've had two top 3 picks during this rebuild and are a clear bottom 3 team in the NBA even in LaMelo's 5th season. It doesn't feel like they're going anywhere ever. If they get a top 2 pick this year they can turn it around I guess? But man, every Hornets season is exactly the same.

They're a franchise that needs to hit big in the trade market and the draft, and hire excellent coaching, because they're not going to attract any of the big time free agents.

Unfortunately, their biggest weakness has been their front office because they don't know how to draft, how to recognize coaching talent, or how to win big on trades.

I mean, teams like Utah and OKC and Denver and Minnesota and Milwaukee are also smaller market teams that have had really great seasons over the same time frame, and yes, a lot of it has been getting lucky in the draft, but they also have made some smart trades and have hired good coaches over the years. And the free agent signings they do get are based on finding the undervalued guys in free agency that can fit into their system well, ditto with how they've drafted, because they know they're not signing a top 10 player in free agency.

And then once you have a winning situation, players may sign with you. Like, I do think free agents strongly consider teams like OKC and Denver mainly because these are winning teams with a good nucleus of players, and they see a chance to be on a successful team. So I don't buy the small market excuse. Other small markets have accomplished better.

Our GM just selected the worst player I’ve ever seen play regular NBA minutes #6 overall. Go down the Tidjane Salaun rabbit hole if you’re bored.

I honestly have less hope than I did this time last year, because back then we had hope of a new front office changing things. This year has proven it’s more of the same.

The Hornets when healthy look to be a solid team but their best players are always injured. Flagg would be amazing for them since he went to Duke which is in North Carolina. Doesn’t help that Charles Lee sucks as a coach, they need to hire a better coach. Also they have the worst announcer in all of sports yells for no reason and hurts my ears, can’t watch their games cause of him.

They dont seem to be good at drafting, also they built a culture of grabbing decent players from other teams with large extensions, on the hope they break out. They never do. Its like the FO is playing money ball, but have an awful eye for talent or potential.

seems like no matter what happens in the world, hornets are a bottom 5 team in nba, and they will be 1-5 next season too

Just absolute awful luck, missed Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard in their first decade. Proceeded to salary dump Tyson Chandler who turned into a DPOY and was arguably the second best player on the '11 Mavs. They've made their share of bad decisions but goodness even when we catch a break with Ball he turns out to be made of glass and has the maturity of a 7-year old who drank too much soda.

It can be the most boring layup in the history of basketball and dude will be screaming like he just watched a walk off grandslam down 3 in the bottom of the 29th inning.

I disagree
Let's say they add Flagg (as good a chance as anyone)
Trade Bridges (dump him for as little salary as possible). Trade Nurkic/#37 for Vuc
Ball/Smith
Green/Mann
Miller/Williams
Flagg/Salaun
Williams/Vuc
Plus a few other young pieces, and some nice future picks

Looks good to me

I actually have a super small connection to someone fairly high up in the Hornets organization, we've talked about different things that any basketball team has to deal with these days, stuff like AAU, how it ruins players, and how they have to spend so much time attempting to coach those habits out of players.

He did mention Brandon Miller isn't one of those players. He came in wanting to work hard and learn everything he can to be a better player. He just needs to be healthy.

Get excited about exciting plays. Hornets still have those believe it or not.

Screaming after a regular layup when the score is 4-6 is a bit much.
