How do the Nuggets re-tool in the offseason?

Post#1 » by guynumber45 » Mon Mar 3, 2025 12:49 am

It's pretty clear they don't have enough this year to go all the way. They don't play enough defense, lack offensive firepower and don't have a deep enough bench to compete with the best teams. They haven't beaten a single healthy contender in months now and I don't see that changing in the playoffs.

What moves should they look to make to re-shape this roster? Perhaps they could be players in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes?

Make sure that Mike Malone signs a long term extension because he is one of the best coaches in the NBA and the reason why the Nuggets are so great is because of him.

This it the play for them IMO.

Murray for assets, then use those assets + MPJ for KD. Surround Jokic and KD with versatile defenders.

That’s stupid. Murray and Porter for KD that’s makes them worse. You think depth is a problem now it would be 10 times worse. Who will be their PG? Denver’s problem is depth

I would trade Murray and AG before I would trade MPJ.

Trade Muray for KD. Hopefully he continues his improved play and he has some value in the offseason.

AG's lack of willingness to stay in the corner/ shoot wide open 3s is a big negative for Denver offensively, so I would love to get rid of him too. Denver didn't seem to miss a beat with Peyton replacing AG in the starting lineup, earlier in the season.

Denver needs players who can carry non Jokic minutes. Murray has been horrific at that. KD and whatever you could get for AG could turn that around.

I don't understand the dooming around the Nuggets. They are the 3rd seed in the West and were within 2 possessions of taking the W on the champ's homecourt. Take a look around, a lot of the competition aren't setting the world on fire either

KD is cancerous. Don’t do this to jokic. He would hate him.

* Backup 5. Could be healed Holmes or even healed Cancar (small Ball). Saric is out.

* Improve defense

* Improve shooting

* Determine if Pickett is good enough for a rotation role. If not, may want to add a third ball handler

It'd be nice if they would finally move on from Porter (IMO he goes before Murray does), but I'll believe it when I see it.

They also could use an additional 4/5 who can shoot, if they aren't sure if Cancar can play rotation minutes. I thought he looked good earlier this year but he gets hurt a lot.
Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy

Not surrounding the best player in the world with an all star caliber player is a Capital Crime. They are currently 6% to win the title according to current betting odds. That is unacceptable.

Lebron has had 1 or 2 all star caliber players ever year he's played since he joined the Heat.

Westbrook is an addition by subtraction. He can’t shoot free throws when it matters.

I’d try to trade Julian Strawther and another pick or prospect for Fred Van Vleet & Dillon Brooks.

Salaries don’t match up, so they’re probably stuck on the treadmill.

I agree with the OP on the Nuggets bench not being deep enough. That is pretty much their biggest problem.

AG is shooting 41.5 percent from 3 this year on 3 attempts. His 3 pt shooting is not a problem. Actually it is plus. He also plays vertically on the low post. The only thing that an issue with AG is his health this year. We need AG’s versatility on the defensive end.

Trade MPJ and Zeke Nnaji for KD

KD + Jokic would be GOAT level duo

They did well in the RS, if they don't net another title, they'll need to change some roleplayers to win another chip.

they need to get rid of Jamal Murray or one of the other guys and get a legit, consistent top 20 player. Not sure one is available... maybe devin booker.
