Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [NO Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
Gave my notice this morning (2 weeks). My current manager has only been a manager for a few months, she was promoted up. I took her by surprise I think but oh well. She told me not to say anything and she would tell everyone next week. Meanwhile I wrapped up a big project today and now I'll be a lame duck for 2 weeks without anything to do really. Whether they fill the position internally or externally it won't be done in 2 weeks so I'll have no one to mentor/train. I don't really give a ****. 2 weeks from today I'm done.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Mrs. Finn gave 6 months' notice before she retired. Her boss sat on his ass & did nothing. Then less than a month before she left, he panicked & threw more money at her to stay. When she said no, he asked her about helping him hire a replacement. She recommended an engineer we both worked with in the past & he was ultimately hired so she had about 1 week to "train" him. As a last-ditch effort, he threw stock options at her which she declined. A bit of a **** that could have been easily avoided.
Congrats again on pulling the plug.

Good for you. It's on them to find a replacement. It's on you to coast through these next couple weeks.

I work in IT, I've been in this particular job several years. I like the work, I like my co-workers, I work about 75% from home, it pays very well. But I'm just tired of the corporate BS. I might do some gig work, probably not. I'm fortunate that I don't need a paycheck. I'm single and currently unattached. I can do what I want, when I want. I have an idea for an app using AI that I'm going to play around with. I can program apps but haven't used AI in any of them. I most likely will never be able to monetize it and that's fine. AI is going to change a lot of things over the next few years and I want to stay on top of it. I know if the company terminates anyone in my department they walk them out immediately since we have access to social security numbers, credit card numbers, etc... they don't want a disgruntled employee to have access. I'm not sure about the policy when someone quits. I'll guess I'll find out Friday. I've been thinking about this for the past year or so. I had decided to do it in April or May as the warm weather gets here. But I'm wrapping up a big project this week and it's best to leave now rather than start something new and leave in the middle of it.
I left my grown person job almost 9 years ago. I was not set up financially beyond a few months, had wonderful parents without the means of helping even if they wanted to, and no real investments to speak of. Just me and my wife working together..every day.
Best decision we ever made even though we make nowhere near the money we would have.
It's certainly going to be weird not having a paycheck. But I sure won't miss the corporate BS. Constant re-org after re-org so management can check a box at the end of the year that they "did something". No more having to listen about bandwidth, circle back, deep dive, move the needle, action plan, push the envelope, pivot and all the other stupid corporate buzzwords.
Yep, I basically had the last straw at my current job at one of the states most well known companies. Sadly ill have to up the job hunt for something new first but having 3 managers just aint for me.

Yeah that's a hard pass. Last time I was looking, I was getting pretty interested in a job after the second interview - thought it might be the next thing for me. HR dropped via email that they were changing the role to be a dual report to the COO and CFO. I could not nope out of there fast enough. Protect your mental health.

Yep I never know whose actually making the decision and I can't trust them to have my best interest in mind. Company wonders why they struggle with such a bloated middle manager setup.

I baked cookies tonight to send to a friend who requested some, and I love that UPS has entire page dedicated to how to best send them.

I'm really glad I hate baking or my weight would skyrocket. That said, I finally made the Levain cookie recipe from Serious Eats a few weeks ago. Not normally my style of cookie, but they were incredible. Stella knows her stuff.

My last day is the 14th. A few minutes ago a VP said there were some "big" meetings on the 20th and 21st that will, in part, discuss a big project I led and was just completed last week. He asked if there was any way I could call in and answer any questions. I said sure I would. As long as the meetings are in the morning and done by 11 because I'm not missing any March Madness games. There was a pause, I think he thought I was joking. When he realized I wasn't he said he would do what he can. What he can and can't do I don't give a ****, I'm available until 11 both days and that's it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Pretty nice of him to see what he can do IMO

Took the family to Kopp’s last night. Maybe it was an off day but Culver’s is better from a burger standpoint. Fight me. Kopp’s fries were way better though.

Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [NO Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
Hi all,
Do we by any chance have any PE teachers, or BB trainers in the forum ?
My son who is 14 years old plays basketball. He plays for a U16 Team in Germany (so ages: 14 to 16).
The biggest issue is that the training for youth teams regionally is done a bit amateurish from 18-19 year olds who play basketball in older teams.
He is actually quite decent and he wants to do some individual fitness/physical/plyometrics/condition training as well.
As I said he is 14 years old, he is 6ft 2" tall, average weight and has a 6ft 6" wingspan.
He prefers to play SF (which he plays now, while last year in the 12-14 group he was forced to play Center just because he was the tallest). His biggest advantage is his shooting. He is a really good shooter and his shooting form is correct and stable.
He is also a good defender taking advantage of his wingspan with good block timing.
Where he lacks is agility and speed. Partly because he grew up very fast and also in comparison to 15-16 year olds that are a bit ahead physically. He could also improve dribbling, rebounding.
So he asked me if I can help him find a training program which he can do at home a few days per week so that he can improve.
While I understand a lot about Basketball , I don't want to give training advice that would have negative effects.
I asked his school trainer and he just said let him just run a bit when have time and do some push-ups...
I was hoping that someone could post a small routine of exercises (sprints, push-ups, small hand weigths etc) he can do at home to improve (we have a garden and also the opportunity to go to a small track if needed), links to plyo or other training videos etc. Anything useful !
Since it is his demand and I am not pushing him, but any more hours away from Fortnite and more Basketball are a gift
I really want to motivate him, because he loves it.
He recently gave up sugar, soft drinks and ltos of carbs on his own, which was surprising since he had a "sweet tooth"
Many thanks in advance for any and all tips and if you need further info I will gladly provide.

Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [NO Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
Farmer's Carry/Farmer's Walk is an exercise that's simple, does not require pricey equipment and is a compound exercise, meaning it works multiple large muscle groups.
Basically, he'll need two heavy things to carry with arms falling to the side. Could be a pair of dumbells, could be a pair of buckets filled with rocks. Needs to weigh the same, needs to be easily gripped. Weight should be light enough to lift, heavy enough where it should force you to work your grip
Easy to describe:
1) Lift the weights
2) Walk with the weights: between 20 and 60 seconds is a good range.
3) Rest
4) Repeat: 2-4 times is a good start
This is functional exercise that will work his legs and back and, importantly, his grip. Grip strength will help him catch passes, grab rebounds and control the opposition's position with his hands. Grip strength!
I think there's some trainers on this board, but this is something safe and simple, especially for someone new to strength training.

I coach and have trained for high level ultimate frisbee, and while a lot of the movements are different (ultimate is more akin to American football wide receivers - footwork is key), training explosiveness doesn't really differentiate too much across sports.
Here are some good plyometric workouts that don't require any equipment.
https://www.self.com/story/a-10-minute-fat-burning-plyometric-workout-you-can-do-at-home
Be sure he does the exercises that work a single side of the body, not just the ones that work both sides of the body at the same time -- Think single leg lunges instead of just doing squats.
At his age, playing hoops (or any sport), you can really develop a body imbalance with your dominant side developing much quicker than the non-dominant which can lead to problems down the road.

Didn't know there was anyone on here that played ultimate. Was big in my family growing up. I played in college for D2 school and then MUFA every summer in Madison. Never played club though. But my bro was the real star. His college team won D3 National Championship and his club team went to nationals every year. When the Madison Radicals started he was a huge stud and they went to Nationals and got second. Cool to see another ultimate guy. We're both cutters (I'm 6'4", we're both fast and can jump high). Always fun to brag about my bro being a pro in something. Where you play?

Played MUFA & club in Madison until 2005. Played mixed club.
Been in MKE ever since then. Mostly league, one college season with UWM in 05/06. First Black Cat team to make regionals. Couple club seasons.
Technically finally made Nationals playing Grandmasters (I'm old) this past summer, but couldn't go to Colorado to play.
