I’m still not clear how you can keep a team around that contract and Ja/Bane.
Okay.
So you think JJJ wouldn’t accept one dollar below the supermax. Despite there being over 100 million dollars in negotiation room… You see no wiggle room there at all.
Which is pretty interesting to me as an outsider.
But..
He is eligible for a 6yr368 total deal this summer. 23 million in 2025-2026 and 79 million in 2030-2031. 2030-2031 projecting to be 31% of the cap only*
How much do you think he demands to lock up a five year deal instead of a 6 year deal?
Do you think it’s 5yr290? Again, that’s about 50 million dollars more than anyone else can offer over the same 4 years… but that is the same total money as a 4yr 35% max Just Missing the last season where he counts as 31% of the cap.
Do you think it’s 5yr313? Which would be the same as signing a DPE this summer? And it’s 70 million more than anyone can offer.. And he’d be a free agent at age 30 when the cap projects to be 249 million? Which very likely results in him making more money than demanding a DPE next summer..
Or do you think there is actually no negotiation room? Just the full supermax or he plays out his contract and throws away up to 70 million dollars?
Just asking your opinion.
The answer is because he's working backwards from the result he wants (JJJ asking out) rather than assessing the situation at face value.
Yeah I wasted a lot of time typing that, I know.
