He’s just kinda meant for teams like us or a placeholder on directionless teams. It’s a shame because he’s clearly a great culture guy and hard worker but non spacing wing who can’t defend just doesn’t have juice like that.

Barrett is not a flame thrower by any means, but he shoots roughly leagye average from 3 and will put them up. I do agree with you though that his production may lead fans to think he has value, but that his shortcomings suggest otherwise. He is getting better though and at only 24 still somehow he may still improve going forward.

DG88 wrote:Not surprised. Barrett is extension eligible and with all the money we have tied up to Barnes/IQ/BI it was going to be hard to stay under the tax with another draft pick coming our way in the lottery. Barrett is the obvious candidate to trade and get some good value out of.

Something has to give. Too many issues are lining up concerning next year:

-most the players mocked in our draft range are guards and wings

-we are going to be very close to the tax and have very little big man depth

-we can’t hope to be a serious playoff team next year if our backup pf AND c options are Mogbo (and literally no one else)

If this team is going to push for the playoffs we need either some salary flexibility or roster re-alignment (shifting guard depth for big depth). RJ’s salary could go a long way in fixing those issues.

Why trade a healthy Barrett for an injury prone BI?

BI sn't Kawhi.

If the reporting is true then it probably wasn’t NOP bringing up RJ in trade talks. By default it had to be us offering up RJ.

Depending on what happens in the draft lottery, I could see RJ and/or IQ moved.

I’d personally like to see RJ continue to grow and improve his value here at home but if there’s a good opportunity that needs to be pursued then I’m for it

Told ya'll.

Meanwhile the counterarguments were:

"stop being so negative"
"RJ is going to be Paul Pierce"
"RJ can become a good defender"

womp womp like usual, common sense wins again

Once RJ is eventually off this team I suspect his AST% will crash back down again. He should go play in Taiwan.

I would keep him going into the season unless we get a great offer. He is going to explode as a 3rd option as we saw when he was traded here. He could shoot > 50% from the field, he's a good stationary three point shooter, and he adds rim pressure.

I can see the counter argument though. We don't want Barnes to be a 4th option, his offense won't improve if we leave him in that role. We also need a POA defender because our perimeter defense is really weak with IQ, Ingram and Barrett.

If we can dump Barrett for expirings and get a good pick it would be a worthwhile trade. There is a risk he turns into something better on another team but it's unlikely. He's 24 years old, turning 25 in a few months, and he's never been an all star. I don't see him getting there.

Okay, so you're not to be taken seriously at all, 10-4.

It seems like a long term money move. It appears that the Raptors are very high on Ingram and they expect him to break out. Let's not forget RJ is only 24 and has shown improvement in his game every year.

Not really surprising that he was offered, nor that he was turned down.

Despite his impressive production and improved efficiency, his fit on a good team is still a big question mark.

His value should have improved, but if he’s still not seen as an asset around the league it wouldn’t be too surprising.

This isn't news to most of us. RJ is empty stats.

Will need a really dumb GM to trade for him. Too bad New Orleans didn't bite. RJ will be gone by the end of next season.

RJ to me would be at best a net neutral given his contract and limitations. Despite that I would still argue that he's "improved" his value (from toxic asset to slightly negative value). I think he's the odd man out of the team this summer or next.

Barrett rightfully has some haters. He plays a "power guard" game and that's tough to put up against shifty guards with elite burst. He just isn't able to keep up on that end.

If you look at CraftedDPM (aggregation of DDARKO, DLEBRON, etc) he ranked 8th percentile in the league. Even with meaningful improvement that won't cut it.

If nothing else...just let him go into free agency. If Tre Johnson or Kasparas are ready to start as sophomores...you don't have to bring RJ back as a free agent.

I don't worry about RJ next season but rather 2 seasons from now but that is dependent on whether the lottery pick is good enough to contribute.

He said Edey, if used right, had the potential to be as impactful as Shaq. So...

It's like Deandre Hunter. I wanted to trade for him when his stock was low last summer.

RJ seems like he's destined to be Derozan traded. I would say KD.

Him and Philly need a divorce and he's probably the BPA.
