LaMelo Ball offers?

Post#1 » by JustBuzzin » Mon Mar 3, 2025 11:20 pm

Charlotte has landed Cooper Flagg with the #1 pick and has made it known the franchise will be built around Flagg/Miller. New ownership/GM wants to move on from the unreliable Melo.

What does a offer look like for a extremely talented yet injury prone player?

Extremely talented, injury prone, and kind of a clown show, for completeness.

I don’t trust Melo one bit, but I do think someone out there would take a chance. He needs to get severely beta’d on a new team to get him to use his talent better, so I’d be looking for a team with a need at PG and someone like that.

Houston doesn’t have the alpha needed unless you think Udoka is enough by himself. Obviously not New York, Cleveland, OK City or Detroit. San Antonio already got their PG.

Clips if they move Harden? Risky but fun. Doubt Portland bothers. Chicago has no alpha but might be interested if they move other guards. Lakers seems unnecessary, and they lack trade resources.

Man. I keep going and don’t see a fit, but I’m lower on the LaMelo show than some. Maybe Phoenix, but the return won’t be picks unless they deal Durant or Booker first.

I like Orlando here.

I could see the Kings turning what they received from the Fox trade to Charlotte for Ball. I have his value at bad contracts + two fairly high upside picks.

I feel like Orlando never does things like this though. Their real life regime is pretty tame.

I could see Chicago being a sneaky destination.

Patrick Williams, Coby White, Jevon Carter + How Many Picks = LaMelo?

Brooklyn will be star hunting this summer, and I think we'll make an offer. I don't think it'll be all that juicy of an offer, but I would imagine cap relief and a couple of our late 1sts would be on the table. Of course, the draft is a week before the offseason, so we technically can't pick for Charlotte without consummating the deal yadayada, I know. But in theory, with a wink wink handshake deal before the draft, that's what I think the Nets would suggest.

Is Dejounte Murray, Jose Alvarado, and Jordan Hawkins for LaMelo Ball outrageous?

I want LaMelo in Brooklyn just to see him and Cam Thomas play together. That would be epic comedy.

Orlando will be linked bc its obvious we need any oxygen-breathing human that can be a PG in the NBA. He has talent, all star level talent and has skills that Orlando could clearly use. However, that right ankle undergoing multiple injuries at just 23 and having not played more then 70 games in only one of his 5 seasons makes me very nervous about trading valuable assets for him. I don't see our front office trading for him. My guess he is worth a salary match, young player and a FRP.

Wolves could use a PG but I honestly wouldn’t give up much value for him. Too injury prone.

This is kind of fun. I think Philly needs to add but a young team with cost controlled contracts can take the risk.

He does not seem like a Marks or Fernandez type of player. I'll never say never if the price is extremely bargain bin, but I don't see it.

Most of the discourse around LaMelo trades are low-ball offers.

He is 23 yrs old, under contract for 4 more years after this at what will be a good contract for a guy who will likely be the 50th highest paid player in the league on average during that time frame.

He ranks 42nd in VORP this year, 41st in EPM.

Best trades to look at his value.

DeAaron Fox (25 yrs) - 2 firsts, 5 2nds, Lavine = estimated value roughly 3-4 firsts.
Dejounte Murray #1 (26 yrs) - 2 unprotected firsts, + 1 lottery protected first. = estimated value roughly 3+ firsts.
Dejounte Murray #2 (28yrs) - 2 lower upside firsts + Dyson Daniels= estimated value roughly 3 firsts.
Dame (34 yrs)- Holiday, 1 firsts, 2 swaps= estimated value roughly 3+ firsts.
Mitchell (26 yrs)- 3 firsts, 2 swaps, Agbaji, Sexton and Lauri estimated value roughly 5+ firsts

Next take a look at a decent list of teams that will likely be interested to some degree if he were to be available.
Heat, Magic, Chicago, Nets, Rockets, Clippers, Jazz, Warriors.

Yes, he has some injury concerns, but most have been minor and you could easily make the argument he plays 30-40 more games over the last 2.5 years if Charlotte was competitive rather than playing it on the safe side when he is only 70% due to the games not being worth the risk.

I would say given previous trades, his age, his contract, his injuries and the fact that Charlotte has no rush to trade him his value should be in the 3 first + value range on the low end, anything below that isn't considered.
