Color me shocked.

Nobody had LeBron in the top 10 before the season.

Maybe not top-10 but certainly top-12 at the worst.

Either way, teams with top players are expected to win a lot of games. This is really nothing new.

I personally couldn't care less about COY award however it is obvious he is a basketball maniac who is obsessed with his job. his determined attitude and attention to detail certainly seems to be working with his roster as they appear to be "playing for him".

We are at over 3 months now and the lakers are in the second seed in the west with 22 games left!

And btw they were 31-19 before the first game of Luka

Lakers were middle of the pack 5th seed going nowhere and destined for another first round exit...

until the worst trade in NBA history gifts Luka.

Not a fan of COY award - after all, haven't the majority of COYs over the last 20 years been fired within 3 years of receiving the award? I don't know the data but i know everyone loves to talk about the COY curse.

For me coaching doesn't matter until the playoffs. The ability to make adjustments in a playoff series is what separates the elite coaches. I am very excited to see how JJ manages the Lakers come playoff time.

Most hate over the JJ hiring was directed towards LeBron. Media, social media, people here on this very board CRUCIFIED him for any suggestion that a former pro turned podcaster with zero coaching experience would be a good hire as a HC. So where are the LeBron detractors now?

Such revisionism. That middle of the pack status as 5th seed came after falling almost out of contention following the great early start. In other words JJ had made the adjustments to get them climbing again. Maybe they were destined to lose in an early round, but the point was they were not stuck in a rut or in a freefall like the Warriors before Butler came aboard.

Someone hasn’t watched a Lakers game this season.

Luka has played like 2 and a half good games with LA  JJ has been great all season. This team last year with Ham as the coach is not this good, easy as that. They were beating really good teams before Luka got there and AD was hurt. I guess the Luka trade really helped the defense too right? Not. It’s easy to say “ohhhh they got Luka of course they should be good”, but this goes deeper than that and that is such a lazy cop out to what’s actually happening

Lakers won 9 of their last 10 games before Luka ever put on a Lakers jersey.

No, but Rob Pelinka could win GMoY, simply by answering his phone.

JJ has been great .. if you look you will see, he is not the LAKERS problem .. Lakers are not going anywhere this year, to make a recent analogy, (when the Mavs traded for KI, they even missed the Playoff) the team is very unbalanced and full of holes, J. Hayes is the starting center !!! .. if LeBron is going to continue playing a couple more years, they will have to restructure almost completely this summer, the pieces do not fit (Hayes as a backup, DFS (fits) Goodwin (Cheap and worthless) Bronny (son of the boss) .. the rest will be traded or should be

Lakers have lost 7 out of their last 10. Cavs have lost 4 games in their last 10.

I guess when you're sitting on 57 wins with 11 games to go, the standards are applied a bit differently.

Kenny should and will win this award, rather easily in fact.

Hard to see how the award doesn't go to Daigneault (OKC), but there is certainly a case to be made for Kenny Atkinson (CLE), Udoka (HOU), and Mazzulla (BOS). Those guys are the clear front-runners.

Redick is in the second grouping with Malone (Den), Lue (Clips), Jenkins (Mem), Kerr (GS), and Bickerstaff (Det).

For me it's

1. Daigneault (OKC)
2. Kenny Atkinson (CLE)
3. Udoka (HOU)
4. Mazzulla (BOS)
5. Jenkins (Mem)
6. Bickerstaff (Det)
7. Lue (Clips)
8. Redick (LA)
9. Kerr (GS)
10. Malone (Den)

I think the Lakers have gone backwards since trading for Luka. Look at their w-l record in the preceeding weeks before and after the Luka trade.

This is the weirdest Laker season I've ever experienced.

- start off 3-0 with new coach
- up-and-down in November/December
- looking really good in January with strong defense and a balanced roster
- LA fires postpones games
- trade for Luka freaking Doncic
- trade for Mark Williamns
- trade gets rescinded, team has no center, unbalanced roster
- winning games without Luka+LeBron
- win 8 straight
- LeBron gets hurt, brutal schedule because of LA fire postponments
- losing games with healthy roster

What a mess. I don't know what to make of this team. I'm feeling like this season is going to be a write-off, and we need to re-tool the balance of our roster this offseason.
