Gradey Dick for a C

Post#1 » by Tripod » Wed Mar 5, 2025 4:22 am

Raps are too heavy on SG/SF with RJ, Gradey, Walter, Ochai, BI.

Not trading BI obviously
RJ has more value to Raps than others
Ochai 3+D is needed
So comes down to Walter and Dick

To balance the roster better, moving one for a backup C in a fair deal is an option. What possible deals ate out there?

The Raptors would probably take a good man even if it's a PF. They also need someone that's cost controlled for at least 2 years. The most sense would be in trading him for a draft pick this year so they can pick up Queen, Maluach, Fleming, Sorber, Newell, or another big man in the draft.

Woudl any team give up a first round pick for a young shooter? I would guess so, he's shown a lot in the league and draft picks are usually gambles.

MAGIC? They've been looking for that archetype of player in the draft recently (Howard)

imo Agbaji gets traded before Dick. Sell high instead of selling low and also dick has 1 more cheap year to help us avoid the tax in 26-27

Yes, but since Bogut is retired I don’t think we need to call him names anymore.

As to the OP, I’m surprised at some of the names folks are interested in. I thought Gradey was more valued than that.

He’s in an interesting spot where he’s shown enough to be worth *something* but not enough to anchor a deal for a truly valued player by himself

TJD seems like the right idea - a guy on another team who’s shown promise but for whatever reason has fallen out of favor (as a side note, I have no idea if our FO would do that or not)

He’s in that spot where he has shown enough to be worth more than a second round pick (even an early second) but not proven enough to be worth a lotto pick so anywhere between 16 and 30 depending on who need a 3 point threat.

He looked good against the Bulls and since Ingram didn't play you don't figure there are minutes for Grady to be a key piece going forward. He'd look good on the Bulls except for the fact that they have 9 guards, 4 with expiring contracts so they'd have to make several trades to make room for him.

The better move for the Bulls would be taking RJ Barrett for an expiring Vucevic. TOR would cut off several years of Barrett's contract, get a one year center, then maybe resign him for much less when several huge contracts take effect. Barrett at the 2 with Ball while Giddey plays the SF would be good of course they still have guards to move at the same time.

Don't disagree with the thought necessarily, but it seems odd that the solution to having too many guards is for the Bulls to trade their only starting caliber big for another guard.

The Bulls don't need Dick unless the Raps are sending draft assets with him, they have 8 guys between 6'5" and 6'8" in their rotation already, plus Buzelis.

If the Bulls can get a recent lotto pick (who's shown enough to be worth investing in) for a guy who's basically locked in as a good first big off the bench, they should take it and run roster balance be damned.

How much better, realistically, do you think Jalen Smith is going to get

Did you mean someone else than Howard or suppose they'd get their C with the DEN pick?

Wendell Carter for Dick (there'd need to be some fillers)...WCJ is big and strong enough to play C, but also can move around to the PF spot next to Poeltl or any other rim-runner they pick up...his versatility is underutlized in ORL, imo...he'd be very effective with Barnes because he can shoot, switch out on D, and pass well for a big.

*His shooting cratered this year, but I've got to believe it's situational...ORL has a handful of historically good shooters and everyone EVERYONE on the team is hitting career low %...They are possibly going to end up as the worst 3pt shooting team in NBA history. I'm not saying WCJ is Steph...but floor spreading is one of the things he can do at a solid level...He's also still a young guy that can grow with the TOR core.

Well he already makes more 3s per minute than Dick and Dick's only NBA level skill is shooting 3s, so... :dontknow: how much do people expect Dick to improve? He's on a terrible team that gets even more terrible when he's on the court, we shouldn't be acting like he's a sure thing to ever even be worth his rookie contract.
