HOU contends, PHX reshapes, ORL repairs

Post#1 » by Skybox » Wed Mar 5, 2025 12:05 am

Is this remotely plausible...does everyone get what they want?

Draft Night, so ORL can trade concurrent picks...

ORL sends: WCJ, KCP, Cole Anthony, ORL 25 frp(#15), Orl 26 frp (top 5)
ORL gets: FVV, Cam Whitmore
Why: Simultaneously upgrade tremendously and move out 3 guys who don't really fit, hoping they still have some trade value due to their disappointing season.

HOU sends: FVV, Cam Whitmore, 27 frp (top 5)
HOU gets: Kevin Durant
Why: Immediate contention with KD, while still growing a young super-talented core, Amen is ready at PG, Durant, Smith, and Eason make Whitmore completely expendable. I'd prefer Eason, but so would HOU, so it's Whitmore. ORL sends picks to pay for Durant, so HOU keeps its pick stash dry for another big move. HOU might prefer to send their own matching salary pieces directly to PHX, but they don't really fit...why would PHX want Brooks and Jalen Green eating cap when they have Dunn, Booker & Beal? This trade gets them to a much more balanced veteran roster...HOU still has tremendous trade assets if they look for another move down the road. Amen's ascendance is really key for this to make any sense...FVV was overpaid on purpose and it worked, now it's ORL's turn to get his tutelage for a few years.

PHX sends: Kevin Durant
PHX gets: WCJ, KCP, Cole, ORL 25 frp, ORL 26 frp, HOU 27 frp
Why: KCP regains his shooting and forms a beautifully complementary backcourt with Booker & Beal, WCJ & Richards at C, 3 frps(!), Cole expires or, if desired, has a TO for the following year. Combined with following trade, PHX suddenly has a fearsome defensive identity and frontcourt depth.

Second trade: PHX can't aggregate...
ORL sends Jonathan Isaac & 2 srps to PHX for Grayson Allen. ORL gets the shooting off the bench they desperately need. PHX gets the most versatile defender in the league, from perimeter to rim to fill out a suddenly ferocious defense with Dunn, KCP, and WCJ leading the way. Isaac will probably be minutes-restricted for years, but his impact is undeniable and his new contract is great at $15m per, with outs for injuries/excessive missed games.

Don't want Durant.

Having 3 SG cluttering the backcourt is not beautifully complementary.. opposite i would say

I know Orlando is down bad, but isn’t FVV an expiring?

Whitmore plays over who and why? Serious question.

I’m all for getting better, but this seems really really bad.

I see that I didn't specify in this thread ( I see), but I'd want an extension agreed to, similar to what HOU did with him initially...2+1(preferably a team option, but he's not so old that I wouldn't give FVV a player option, presuming the annual salary wasn't obscene. I'd say $35-38m per would be on the high end, but doable.

I don't really care that much about Whitmore, but if we ship out two frontcourt rotation guys, we'd better get a promising body back for depth. As I mentioned, I'd prefer Tori Eason or even Jabari. Jabari might be possible, especially with KD coming in...that would be some quality depth as long as he's not expecting an outrageous extension too.

***BIG factor is what we're unloading at the same time....WCJ, KCP, and Cole's money are not irrelevant. All can play, but all are negative values in ORL...maybe even "mistakes". I actually think all 3 will do better elsewhere. Some of the draft equity would certainly be credited towards this.

You need at least 3 solid guards in your rotation...KCP is also big and strong enough to defend up to 3 pretty easily. The complementary part is the elite POA defense that no PHX guards offer at present.

Rather trade Cole , 1st and Jett or AB for Simons, Sexton or White and re negotiate extension vs this mess.

It’s baffling how bad Orlando FO is and now we’re going to be forced to overpay more in the summer.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.
