Re: Ex-Knicks, Sh**posts, and Old Trades - OH MY!
Not getting involved in the back and forths here but, RJ has had such a weird scoring arch. He went from being a dog chit shooter early in his career, to then becoming lights out in the COVID year, back to dog chit, and now pretty good again. But even weirder is that he flew to Canada and all of a sudden became awful at at the line lol. So while his 3 pointer has stabilized, his free throw shooting went the opposite way which is really harming his efficiency.
I'll always be an RJ optimist but the defense never really coming around is the most concerning thing in his development. Still feel like he has a place on a contender or good team as a "smallish" 4 with good spacing around him or even as a 6th man who finishes most games. Somewhere like Miami where they could use another big ball handler next to Herro and Bam. Maybe Phoenix in a Durant trade?
Spurs next to Wemby and Fox would be interesting. Just feel like him, Barnes and Ingram aren't ideal unless one of them really augments their game or turns into a lights out shooter which seems unlikely.

This kind of gets at what I always felt the issue was with him. He plays like a #1 but he's not really good enough to be a #1. Beyond that, it's hard to put him in an ancillary role because he's not a specialist at anything. He's not a great shooter or passer or post player or anything. He's strong as an ox but not a particularly high leaper nor is his 1st jump quick. And he's not a great defender. His biggest strength is getting downhill with the ball in his hands and that's #1 option stuff but everything else isn't quite there.
As you say, putting him next to Barnes and Ingram is just not good roster construction. Oh well, not our problem.

How the **** have ya'll been sitting here wasting keystrokes on 2 mid ass players like RJ and Randle?
These back and forths would have you think it's some MJ vs. LeBron type ****.

The Raptors fanbase collectively hates RJ.
The Timberwolves fanbase collectively hates Randle.
The Knicks fanbase collectively hates both.

Yeah I do think he has elements in his game that if he focused on more, he could really be a nice tertiary piece in the right setup. Like RJ was a good cutter but rarely did we have the kind of spacing that allowed that part of his game to thrive and the Raptors have needed to have him initiate because IQ and Barnes haven't been able to stay healthy.
Feel like the closest we got to idealized RJ was the playoffs against the Cavs and Heat. He was playing really well off of Brunson at times and able to carry some of the load when he sat. Then the start of the following year the team was inconsistent and they made the infamous trade

I always wonder what he would have looked like without Randle at the 4. Oh well. Hope he finds a good spot in the league.

It was blatant how they pulled Quickley and Barnes to keep the tank rolling forward.... Then when they saw RJ wasn't having it and the Raptors were in danger of winning the game they pulled him for like the last minute and a half

Don’t mind me, just wanted to remind the barbz that the raptors fan base turned on No J Maggette

This is a gold mine
Oh boy, the whole Raptors fanbase turned on him.Maybe it still is a toxic contract after allRJ just isn’t valuable around the league. No good team would want him and bad teams would rather have an expiring on their books.RJ is a difficult fit in most SL, it's why he isn't a sought after commodity, I suspect Masai will find a taker once he becomes an expiring contract. This isn't news to most of us. RJ is empty stats.
Will need a really dumb GM to trade for him. Too bad New Orleans didn't bite. RJ will be gone by the end of next season.
TopTold ya'll.
Meanwhile the counterarguments were:
"stop being so negative"
"RJ is going to be Paul Pierce"
"RJ can become a good defender"
womp womp like usual, common sense wins again
Once RJ is eventually off this team I suspect his AST% will crash back down again. He should go play in Taiwan.
Someone needs to check on the barbz. Especially Captain Barb.

This thread is hilarious cause they're not even quoting each other anymore. They're quoting themselves. sht talking in the most disrespectful respectful way. It's like when 2 animals in the wild are "fighting" but don't really want to hurt each other so they do this interpretive dance.

The trade that absolutely killed the momentum and synergy of the team
Don’t get me wrong, getting back KAT over Julius had to be done, but losing Donte after losing ihart was what killed the team.
I would right now trade Mikal + seconds for Donte.
I realistically don’t think that dood is ever coming back, I miss how automatic he was.
THat’s the life of a Knick fan, we are always good, just not good enough, so we make moves to try and get good’er
And still just stay good lol

I miss donte but would still do that trade. Have to be willing to part with replacable pieces to get the main pieces.
It's the mikal trade that has me worried. Depleting all their resources for a quality role player was foolish.
I feel like they got too locked into one player instead of an archetype. Being the nova connection or whatever. It's crazy when you see the cavs bringing in hunter for super cheap and we gave up a half decade of pick control for mikal. Devastating. I just hope it isn't what cripples the championship window.
