the appeal of trading down in this draft is that there isn't much difference in the quality of prospect available at 10 vs. 25
i'd happily take the best OL/DL available at 20 + another day 2 pick over the best OL/DL available at 10 and nothing else

I want that too but unfortunately the draft scenario will also have teams thinking the same - why trade up when it’s a deep draft. Maybe something shakes out. Someone drops in the first 10 picks or there’s a desperate need for someone behind us.

You can always trade future 1st for moving up. Somebody is gonna take a gamble given Bears history how bad franchise is run. Possiblity exist that can be even #1.

Seems like Tez Johnson might slip. I'd take him in the middle rounds.
He didn't clock as fast as I thought he would at the combine. But he showed in the Senior Bowl that he can create separation. He'd be someone to look at for sure. I also like Xavier Restrepo from Miami, and Jaylin Noel from Iowa State. Johnson is projected to go mid 2nd round, Restrepo at late 2nd/early 3rd and Noel as a mid 3rd rounder (although with running a sub 4.4 40 yard dash he might have improved his draft stock at the combine).
I'm expecting Johnson to drop well below 2nd after his 40 time.
But notable is that Tez Johnson's 40 time is basically the same as Tank Dell.

For TE help I thing either Gunnar Helm or Terrance Ferguson might be available in the 3rd round. Helm has really great hands but isn't the best blocker. Ferguson tested the best for his position at the Combine. Also a better receiver than a blocker. Both are tall. Good targets. Good hands. Ferguson is faster.

I hold out hope that Jeanty is still on the board at #10 and that some team, trying to emulate the Eagles, will want to move up and get ahead of the Cowboys to take him. Jeanty is good. But this Draft is so deep at RB we can get a good one in the 2nd round, especially if we can pick up a 3rd second rounder by moving back. I keep seeing Denver at #20. A great RB would certainly help the development of Bo Nix and would really fit well in that offense. A swap of our #10 and #149 for Denver's #20 and #51 is pretty close to an even deal.
That would give us #20, #39, #41 and #51. We could easily get 4 starters out of that group eventually. Provided we get Josh Sweat for our other EDGE in free agency I could see taking Nick Emmanwori the Safety at #20. At #39 I'd possibly tap Donovan jackson the Ohio State DT. At #41 I would look at getting an Offensive lineman to groom for the future. I'd grab the best one available. Ersery, Zabel, Savaiinaea, Ratledge. At #51 I'd go a grab a RB. Both of the Ohio State runners, Judkins and Henderson would probably still be on the board. So would Kaleb Johnson of Iowa.

Really like Ferguson's pass catching ability and skillset.

Him, a high pick, plus that other big kid and Kiran would make a fairly respectable bench core

I could see a team trading up to get Jeanty, or even Tyler Warren. Or someone else entirely. There's always a team that get fixated on a certain guy and will do just about anything to get him (Trubisky, Trey Lance, etc.).
In this draft in particular, I'd much rather have more picks in the top 100 or top 75, than a pick at 10 alone. Especially now that we've already filled two big needs. We can start looking at depth picks for just about everywhere- LB, safety, CB, D line, O line, WR, TE, RB.
The d line should not overlooked though. We were really weak against the run and had trouble getting to the QB against good teams. We need more help in the middle and on the EDGE. Billings may not have that much left in the tank, and the defense dropped off dramatically when he went down.
I think taking an EDGE at 10, and then a DT and a center in round 2 makes a ton of sense still. And then get a RB in R3- Cam Skateboo should be available then.

it would be nice if, whenever people read a sentiment like "i want the bears to trade down in the draft," they went ahead and assumed there was an unspoken "if they can find someone willing to trade with them" attached to that message.
obviously you cannot trade down if someone else is not interested in trading up. you don't have to remind anyone of that. it's how trades work.

For the little bit I watched the combine I did like Helm although he did look a bit clunky to me.
He's not a speedster but man Robbie Ouzts for some reason stood out to me as possibly a good backup blocking TE with decent hands. Seems like he would be a fan favorite too with his tenacity and stache. I'd take him late late in the draft or as an UDFA for TE depth for sure.

I really thought Tyler Scott was going to be this guy. Not sure what happened to him. Coaches just didn't trust him.
He's gonna go somewhere and be a really good receiver if it won't be here with the Bears. Kid showed flashes 2 years ago then didn't get a single shot last year.

Tez had really good 10 yard split and elite 3 cone, if he gets 3 steps hes going to get open which is fine for a slot receiver that gets 3 steps because of the formation. I am much more worried about his size/weight - hes a 11 lbs. lighter than Tank Dell and Dell himself has too slight of a build to handle NFL punishment - he cant stay on the field. How many times can Johnson take a hit from a Safety running a deep cross - which im sure is almost impossible to guard him on but if he only survives one and then gets a broken rib and is out for 8 weeks...
