Uh oh, this is mostly criticism (by Carmelo Anthony) pretty much directed at Thibs:

One can feel the heat increasing in regards to Thibs. A big portion of the fanbase is not really happy with him, now ex-players criticize him. I also have heard commentators like Begley who is usually very cautious voice some subtle criticism as well. The main points have been discussed here:

1) Questionable strategy (drop coverage etc.)
2) Mismanagement of player's minutes

I'm starting to feel like more and more the most prudent thing would by to cut ties in the offseason (barring a sensational playoff run). It seems that going with Thibs into next season is only going to be asking for trouble. I have no numbers but it feels like his support is quickly declining.....btw the insertion of KAT back into the game seems to have caused a big fallout among fans/commentators who have been on the fence with Thibs...

Knicks front office need to act fast and use foresight. This will be the true litmus test to see if this front office is is in aggressive pursuit of a championship.

The question is what coaching candidates are out there who are better than Thibs? I'd like to know everyone's thoughts.

If you are looking to replace Thibs with someone who is an established NBA coach and that can take the team to the next level then there aren't many options. But if you want to take a gamble with a young rookie coach then it is up to the front office to find that guy.

Thibs doesn't need to be replaced as the head coach. He just needs to step aside as it comes to developing an offensive scheme for the team. We need an offensive coordinator. His sets are outdated and don't generate easy baskets for anyone.

The tweeks I would like to see them make is instead of starting the set from the top of the key, they shift the pick and roll to the wing. Instead of putting Bridges in the corner, put him in the middle at the free throw line/elbows, Move Hart to weak side corner and OG to strong side corner. This allows for a multi option set. KAT can roll to the top of the key, you have Bridges in his most effective position to score or facilitate, JB has more room to work off of one side, Hart is a bigger threat as a shooter from the corner and to cut from there to finish. OG is in prime position too as a swing shooter from the corner or wing if the defense breaks down or by cutting.

So many reasons but to me the offense being completely uncreative is my biggest issue.

Thibs would thrive on a team like the Wizards or Hornets, who have struggled for a while and are in desperate need of a turnaround.

If Thibs was replaced this summer the dynamic would be interesting, especially regarding what happens with Rick Brunson as well. Can't have Jalen unhappy
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Either the team sucks or he does. Probably both.

This team will never contend with Thibs as head coach

The FO is not replacing Thibs this late in the season

Therefore, we are not contending this season

The difference between Thibs and Spo:

The Heat sent out their C squad and nearly beat Cleveland.

The Knicks send out their A squad against the Cavs and get blown out.

Thibs is relying on Brunson to save him every 9 out of 10 games.

I went into the season as someone supportive of Thibs (although not 100% convinced) but have completely soured on him. He just has no offensive game plan whatsoever and his defensive strategy does not work against the elite.

I just watched Memphis-OKC and seeing Hartenstein out there just reiterates to me the big misjudgement last seasons as well. The guy is getting now 11/11/5 with OKC and we had him as a 16minute backup on offense that was not allowed to use his passing skills at all, nothing was run or initiated over him until that Mitch injury forced Thibs to play him. Just ponder that. Incredible misjudgement really.

This season the team is survining on talent alone but his game management just really sucks....

Time for Thibs to go.

I actually have the impression that Thibs supporters are in the minority nowadays---maybe we can hold a poll but for me the impression is that that maybe 20% of the fanbase still supports him.

The funniest argument pro-Thibs is: "Well the players haven't complained about playing too many minutes."

Like seriously, how many pro-athletes are you going to find that would go to the coach and say:" Hey coach, you are really playing me too many minutes, could you please cut down on those minutes?" That argument is so baffling and ridiculous.

It is not only about minutes, it is about opportunities and ultimately money. No hobby player, no one in a pick-up game let alone a pro athlete is going to ask the coach to cut down minutes. It is the job of the coaching staff to find a good balance and Thibs has been historically unable to do that. The guy is literally playing a 6-7 man rotation throughout the regular season and then people wonder why his teams always flame out in the playoffs....smh
