Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 3: Son of daughter of MVP thread)
The next week is winning time when it comes to the MVP. SGA plays Denver twice and Boston once in the next seven days. If SGA goes 3-0, the MVP is all but locked up. Alternatively, if Denver wins both games with Jokic outperforming Shai, Joker could gain a lot of ground. Should be fun.

This isnt an mvp thread anymore.
it is...one guy says it and you making it seem like we all think SGA has surpassed Giannis and Jokic...
SGA is clearly the 3rd best player now... but its gonna take some hardware to catch prime Giannis and Jokic...those 2 are still in their prime, have 5 mvps, 2 FMVPs 2 chips and a DPOY...
SGA is your MVP this year but Jokic still the best and Giannis still second best...SGA is just solidified 3rd...IMO...but I could hear some great arguments for Tatum or Luka ahead of SGA even now... I might not disagree but the argument could be reasonable

when Is lebron gonna enter the poll?...
not saying he should win..but Lebron better than everyone on this list after SGA, Tatum, Jokic and Giannis...lebrons recently a top 5 player and even with Luka he as been the best laker (I don't expect that to last for long but still...Lebron is balling)

You must mean under 30. Shai hasn't scored under 20 since October.

Pritchard and Derrick White ending the Tatum MVP Discussion for the rest of the decade.

But people want LeBron to be in the poll, playing next to Luka.
Game thread said Reaves > Bostons role players as well.
The double standards are insane this year. Nothing new though.

Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 3: Son of daughter of MVP thread)
Since the Lakers game, teams have found the rulebook loophole with Denver. Jokic is being grabbed, shoved and handled a lot like Shaq was and a lot of these are no calls. Jokic is aware of this because he is starting to try to sell these calls now.
There was one replay where Jokic was being grabbed by one or players and Valencunas (sp) was flat out holding his arms down to prevent an offensive rebound.
Jokic is getting the worst whistle of his career. It should normalize in the post season but the efforts to deny the ball and FGA is resulting in a lot of fouls not being called

SGA having more total points in the first 3 quarters alone than any player this year is mind boggling.

You were saying Dylan Harper was the easy #1 pick after a couple weeks into the NCAA season. Stop being a prisoner of the moment.
SGA is the MVP, but Jokic is the best player in the world, and has been for several years. 100% of GM's will take Jokic. I think everyone can agree on that.
Or not, this is Real GM.
This same thread has people claiming SGA is as good as peak MJ, and that OKC is at an officiating disadvantage lol
Nobody claimed “as good as peak MJ”. What was said is he’s having a guard season only behind peak Jordan. Big difference. His impact metrics across the board have only been seen by MJ from the guard position (yes, crushing Wade, CP3, Harden, Kobe and Magic). His raw stats as a two way guard only been touched by MJ.
Also you guys continue to not realize best season doesn’t mean better player. THIS one season he’s been every bit as good as Jokic. It doesn’t mean he will be as great in the playoffs, be better next year, was better prior years etc. For me to be the overall BEST player in basketball I look at like a 3 year running sample.
Based on that I’d still give Jokic the best player title, but SGA is the clear MVP at this point in terms of odds.

Denver simply doesn't have enough shooting on the roster. Lakers certainly didn't invent this strategy, but they did it very well Last week, and the Celtics and Kings followed suit. Just pack the paint, double Joker, and dare Westbrick and the other non-shooters to beat you from outside. Has worked like a charm. Calvin Booth and the rest of the Nuggets Front Office are shamefully wasting this man's prime with their poor roster construction.

You can’t be serious with this right?
Teams have been trying the “hard double Jokic” strategy for ages. They’ve been crowding him for years now.
I have no idea why people think this was invented in the Lakers game. If we want to talk Lakers, Darvin Ham himself used that exact strategy at times during the 2023 and 2024 series! So did Kerr in 202.

You mean like how Jokic egghuggers who tried to claim he’s the best player since Peak MJ? Even though he is a steaming liability on defense and semi retired Centers like Jonas Val put up near triple doubles when being guarded by him?

SGA is closer to being underrated than overrated by the public (most people would still take Giannis over SGA for instance) that I'm not too bothered by the hyperbole.

All Malone has to do is play Jokic at the nail and have him face up. Much harder to double in the middle of the court than right under the hoop. His coaching and scheming has been plain poor this year.
