The thing about Dalman is, what team out there is desperate enough to spend 20 mil on a center? I don't think there is one. So if his price tag is more like 15, I think that's reasonable. Not great, but doable. And maybe it will only be 12-13.

If nothing else, re-sign Shelton. He's listed as the 4th best center in FA that I've seen. And draft a center in round 2 or 3.

Hopefully the first will be spent on either Edge or LT. I think they have to think about LT- Braxton has to be re-signed next year. Are they going to be willing to pay him in excess of 20-22 /year? If not, maybe this is the time to draft his replacement.

I would not like anything more than 12 for Dalman. Hes not a top five center. Hes maybe a top 10 center coming off an injury. Would rather give overpay on draft compensation in another trade for a better center

There won’t be a short list of options for DE and DT in free agency or trade it feels like. But how much are we willing to give up?

He’s 30 now and Dennis Allen drafted him and was his DC for 4 years. He only has 1 year 18 million left on his contract

Someone threw out the idea yesterday on Bears radio to bring back Coleman or Bates for C if healthy. We can spend the money elsewhere and maybe their play is a lot better with better guards around them.

Heard some mention that there’s a rumor saying bears send the 10th pick to the bengals and the bears get the 17 and Hendrickson. That would be perfect but I imagine it would still take some more draft compensation

Josh meyers at 7/8m would be much better.

Bradley Bozeman would be much better as well in a one deal.

No!!

I'm like Dice in these situations. Unless we're talking about a franchise QB, I hate the double dip of trading premium picks AND maxing the guy out. Especially when our current team is unproven. If we just had Washington's season , then it might make more sense because we would atleast be close and trying to get over the top. This Bears team isn't that

I guess it depends on the picks we’re trading. If we’re trading the 10th pick for Hendrickson and the 17th pick, I would be for that. If we’re trading a 4th round pick for Hendrickson, I would be for that.

If it’s picks in the first 2 rounds, I’m against it.

Yeah I am not moving off 10 for 1 year of him. I'd do a 4th next year, but that's gone. I wouldn't go higher.

My draft board still looks like:

Membou at 10
Zabel in the 2nd
Wilson or Majors in the 3rd

You are probably right, but I feel like getting a great day 1 C is absolutely critical to "salvaging" Williams. I'm not saying it needs to be Dalman, but it needs to be someone great. I feel like I am over reacting a bit, but Williams clearly seemed to be developing the yips last season, which as many (like me) feel is the end for NFL starting QB's.

Totally agree. Wilson and Majors both look like pretty good C prospects. I'd be happy with either in the 3rd. Majors on particular could use a year to add strength, so it would be nice to have someone like Shelton to give him cover. I think Shelton will be much I proved with 2 good guards supporting him.

And I absolutely agree CW developed the yips behind that line. His short yard accuracy issues were almost certainly associated with the pressure he faced.

I don’t see us not getting a serviceable DE at some point. Either FA or Draft. We getting someone.

If Poles likes one of the DE's at #10, then I could see him waiting until the dust clears on the Free Agent DEs and get somebody on a short one-year deal. I'd be surprised if he signed any of those FAs to large multi-year contracts. The draft has a lot of options on the D-line and no doubt that's why many of those teams aren't re-signing their DE at a significant cost.

My darkhorse pick for the Bears is Will Johnson, DB, Michigan.

Not a need until you realize you always need corners. I think when the dust settles he'll be BPA. If you're the Bears you'd like to be able to trade down for him but I don't think that'll be an option. He'll go too high.

Judging that Tyrique Stevenson be the reason not to take a corner would be an irresponsible take. But I don’t believe fixing his roster spot is a priority based on the idea that he was what caused the Bears to have another bad season. The secondary has much more limited gains available than the trenches. The secondary can hide him for now and stay a net positive unit. We cannot say that about neglecting the trench units. And personally I would grab a safety before a corner if we took a DB and wanted the most bang for the choice

Trading down from 10 to 17 doesn't seem like much in this draft. To get a guy who was almost DPOY? That would seem like a no brainer.

Agreed. Still, BPA is BPA. If the Bears conclude that's who Johnson is I think they should take him regardless of need.

It's my belief that the Bears are still in the talent acquisition mode of their rebuild. It would be nice if need and talent aligned but that doesn't always happen. I see Johnson as a slam dunk difference maker, similar to the way I saw Jared Verse last year.

the draft charts say this would be the equivalent of giving up a high third-round pick for us, but i would much rather do this than give up the 72nd pick

not sure if that's an accurate reflection of the talent available in this draft, or if my brain is just bad at processing the value of the pick swap because it's "only 7 spots"

There was an idea out there to trade JJ for Some D-line or whatever. So drafting a top corner would work for me in that case. There’s a whole lot we don’t know about what Dennis Allen likes in player types though. Anything’s possible.
