“He’s not good and won’t be good but if he is actually good then limit his development to hopefully get a good rookie next year”

That’s all I heard

You're reading not hearing, but maybe you should try that again.

Walter's scouting report showed it all. He sucked as a creator in college, maybe it was injuries, we have to give him a chance to find out. Then he also had clear athleticism issues. The saving grace was his three point volume and decent percentage. We should be looking to develop him in both areas to see what he has, if he has a good foundation he can probably be developed into a 2 way role playing wing similar to Danny Green. He won't reach that unless he's given minutes and a chance to show out.

Again not a core piece but worthwhile two way starter we should be developing over a guy like GD.

Potential key starter isn’t a potential core piece?

And like you said he needs minutes to reach his potential. I just found it funny you suggested cutting his minutes if he’s “hurting the tank”. No if he’s consistently getting to the line and hitting tough shots he should be on the floor regardless if it “costs” the team some games.

I still see lots of RJ in him...good handle driving to paint, dribbles low, good footwork in close, etc..

Like in 2 years he could "naturally" be RJ's replacement assuming RJ is kept till then.

Hopefully his 3pt shooting keeps getting better.

He has clear separation issues on isolation attempts and his leaping ability is very weak for a SG. I think he leads the league in getting blocked on his jumpers too lol.

I think he can be an absolute stud as the 5th guy on a good team though. Play energetic defence, hit some 3’s and cut a lot. The ideal archetype beside our high usage guys. He also has some PNR juice as the ball handler that we should foster.

So... 5th guy on a good team? Kinda like Norm :king: :king: I like that rizz i like that rizz

So does only Gradey receive slander for being billed as a shooter and not delivering? Walter is shooting 31% from 3.

They are different. Walter doesn't have the first step and change of speed to be Barrett. Meanwhile, Walter would be a better shooter.

Walter maybe better to compare with Jimmy Butler with the craftiness, I suppose. However, that requires Walter to work really hard and that is the ultimate ceiling that might be impossible to reach.

Walter projects to be an above average defender, plus can change speed & keep his dribble alive in tight spaces.

He is a two way player with multiple offensive tools in the toolbox.

100% agree with you. The kid can do pretty much everything (shoot, handle in tight spaces, pass, play defense). He has no real holes in his game. He competes extremely hard, is a physical.player (even when he is outmatched), has a high motor, very aggressive. He has extreme confidence & doesn't get in his own head after making mistakes. Just keeps competing. He also seems like smart kid, good team guy & very coachable.

What's not to like?

He haa impressed the hell out of me. I didn't expect this at all when he was drafted.

no holes in his game? sounds like MICHAEL JORDAN!!! omg!!!

Not really, don't make things up, it means he is decent or good overall at everything, but not in 95 percentile like MJ. He looks more like let's say Suggs or Caruso type of player at this point, but with the potential to get even better as he progresses.

I’d graded can’t hit 3s then he’s a negative player. Period. Ja’Kobe is a more complete player so he doesn’t need to shoot 3s to have a positive impact on the game.

Yup, Ja'kobe is not a liability on D and has few holes in his game unlike Gradey.

The holy trinity of NBA SGs is

Jordan, Kobe, Walter (Ray Allen)

Add Ja'kobe Walter as the 4th for the "Holy Quad " (it just also happens to be his injury).

He also a religious guy, so
Jesus Shuttlesworth Jr. Or Jesus Shuttlesworth II would be a great nickname.

Long term, Gradey is going to be our spark off the bench while Walters is our starting SG, I have seen enough of JA'kobe to have that level of confidence. His game is so mature, meticulous, and
he moves at his own pace. like a poor man's SGA.

We should look to sell one of either of them for the highest value we can soon. I would have Agbaji being back as a given, and we will likely eventually sell on RJ.

RJ, Agbaji, Dick, and Walter are all naturally best suited at the 2. The lack of handles from Agbaji and Dick are concerning, especially for Dick since his defense is bad. A player that can't defend and can't dribble shouldn't be a part of our long term plans, those are two skills that shouldn't both be bad.

Trade whoever (not Shead, Jakobe, Scottie) to get KD.
