Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Back to draft news (though it is becoming more depressing noting POR recent play\Cronin's inaction):
No Ceilings Big Board V5
https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/2025-nba-draft-big-board-v5?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=536361&post_id=158306293&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=1f5gb9&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email
No real commentary, but noting some interesting movement
#4\Edgecombe (+1) - Continues to move up boards, I have seen him on some mocks as high as #3.
#5\Jakucionis (-1) - He is sliding a little, not on this big board, but I am starting to see some mocks with him at 7\8\9, which is juuuuust beyond POR reach with the current way they are trending, which is a bummer.
#6\Derik Queen (+3) - Several mocks have him in the top 10 and a few in the top 5. Either he or Maluach will go in top 10 (maybe even both), depends on team preference, but he is certainly moving up boards
#7/Tre Johnson (-1) - Also moving up in most mocks, firmly in top 10, some mocks have him in the 5\6 range. Again, fits the nature of this draft, after top 4 (Flagg\Harper\Bailey\Edgecombe) this draft opens up and becomes an "eye of the beholder" type draft. That is the only potential positive in POR recent play
#9\Liam McNeeley (+1), seeing a lot more mocks with him moving up into the 8-12 range
#10\Asa Newell (-2), I think he is slipping in most of the mock I have seen, still back end of top 10\late lotto though
#11\Collin Murray-Boyles (+3) - Has been moving up draft boards and I don't get the hype. Undersized non-shooting forward type, shooting 26% from 3pt range, not thanks. How many lottery picks of his archetype have panned out in the NBA? None that I can recall in the last 15 years.
#12\Kon Kneuppel (+5) - Seems like an adjustment here, as No Ceilings was out of place where I have seen Kneuppel in most mocks, he is right around\inside top 10 in most mocks
#13\Rasheer Fleming (+2) - Continues rising, tail end of lottery is about where he has been mocked recently
#14\Jeremiah Fears (-1) - Also about where Fears has settled recently, some mocks have him on Top 10 (seen 1 or 2 with him going 5\6)
#15\Egor Demin (-8) - Definitely slipping in most mocks, most have him out of the lottery. I wonder if he will eventually rise back into tail end of the lottery as his size\ability may be too tantalizing for a team to ignore the shooting concerns.
#16\Ben Saraf (-4) - Seems about right, he is slipping a little, lots of mentions about shooting concerns
#18\Danny Wolf (+8) - Definitely rising, could he rise to back end of lottery even?
#20\Jase Richardson (+2) - I expect a big adjustment coming later, richardson is trending towards a lottery pick. I have seen some mock with him in the Top 10 even
#22\Hugo Gonzalez (+2) - Wide range for him, king of all over the palce, in the 20'5 or at back end of lottery, again "eye of beholder"
#25\Nolan Traore (+2) - Seems to low IMO, think he is a lock to go within the top 20 picks, maybe back end of lottery if team likes him enough
#26\Carter Bryant (-5) - Curious ranking here, as if he does declare, I have seen a lot of mocks with him on the top 20 picks, teams intrigued by his potential will always reach for that player
#27\Kam Jones (-7) - Depending on what younger players declare, I think he could slip to 2nd round, but back end of 1st seems to be his ceiling
#28\Miles Byrd (-6) - Definitely falling, I would guess he will fall to 2nd round
#28\Alex Karaban (-4) - Another guy falling and could fall out of the 1st, back end of 1st probably his ceiling as well
#32\Yaxel Lendeborg (+2) - Steadily rising up boards, it would not be a surprise to see a team reach for him in the 1st. What separates Murray-Boyles from Lendeborg?
#33\Noah Penda (+2) - Every mock I have seen has Penda in the 1st round, I expect to see a large adjustment down the road on him. Seen several mocks with him in the Top 20 and a few in the (end ) lottery
#35\Will Riley (+13) - Same as above, if he declares, I think he is solidly a 1st round pick. Teams will gamble of potential\development
#36\Maxime Raynaud (+9) - He could climb into the 1st round, if he is there in the 2nd and POR has ATL pick, might be a good pickup for POR as a b\u big man. Provided Cronin is not "all in" on the Ayton\Williams\Clingan core. This is why I have felt they could let\trade Ayton\Williams away for assets, there are some intriguing b\u bigs in this draft
#39\Isaiah Evans (+19) - He is rapidly ascending boards, if he declares, certainly would not be surprised if he went in the 1st, intriguing potential
#40\Dink Pate (-7) - Never saw the hype with him, screams 2nd round flyer
#42\Joan Beringer (was UR) - 2nd round flyer on a bouncy big guy, again another intriguing back up big.
#50\Alex Condon (was UR) - Another b\u big likely available in the 2nd
#53\Kanon Catchings (-17) - earlier in the year he was being mocked in the 1st. Again, young player with size\potential that if he declares could sneak into the 1st IMO.
#55\Tomislav Ivisic (UR) - Would be happy to see POR take him in the 2nd. Good size, good vision, just plays good connective basketball. My favorite of the bigs

No Ceilings on a rising freshman from Duke not named Flagg, Kneuppel or Maluach

SUPREME CONFIDENCE. Those always seem to be my first words when describing Isaiah Evans, Duke’s five-star freshman flamethrower out of North Mecklenburg High School (NC). The 6’6”, North Carolina native just oozes confidence-it permeates throughout his game, has been a perfect fit with Duke’s team and is a critical component in both his emergence as Duke’s X-factor and resurgence on draft boards.
On the season, he’s averaging 7.8 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and 0.5 APG on 45.3% shooting from distance (4.5 3PA) across 14.2 MPG.
Both his play and injuries to Tyrese Proctor and Maliq Brown have warranted the increased minutes and role over the past month (eight games), where he’s entrenched himself as a rotation fixture. Dating back to the February 5th win at Syracuse, Evans is scoring 10.5 PPG and connecting on 45.4% (20/44) of his threes in 16.3 MPG.
Evans is a bonafide three-point shooter, giving him an impact NBA skill that brings immediate value to an NBA team (45.3% on 117 total 3PA). He embodies the phrase “shooters shoot” and has the ability to go from heating up to on fire in an instant. At worst, Evans should be considered amongst the second tier of shooting prospects in the class.
Equipped with fluid and repeatable mechanics, Evans also has a lightning-quick release. Sometimes it feels like the ball barely touches his hands before it’s released off his fingertips, especially on catch-and-shoots. It reminds me very much of a catcher with an excellent pop time behind the plate.
His lethal movement shooting is my favorite aspect of his shooting/shotmaking package. Dating back to the grassroots level, Evans has been a phenomenal movement shooter, featuring transition catch-and-shoot threes, relocations, and excellent screen navigation. He possesses an innate ability to fly around ball screens with beautiful footwork to get square before rising and firing. His mechanics are consistent whether he’s shooting off movement or a standstill.
The film shows a knockdown shooter with versatility and tough shotmaking ability. Via Synergy, the numbers back it up:
45.1% on 102 catch-and-shoot threes
54.2% on 48 unguarded catch-and-shoot threes
37.0% on 54 guarded catch-and-shoot threes
51.9% on 52 spot-up threes
40.0% on 30 threes off screens
31.6% on 19 threes in transition
There is legit on-ball upside that Evans hasn't been able to explore yet at Duke due to his limited role and usage...A return would grant Evans the experience and growth opportunity of being a primary option and a priority focus of an opposing collegiate scouting report—benefiting his development both over the short and long-term...Evans has shown the ability to leverage his shotmaking prowess, burgeoning handle, and smooth footwork as a self creator—particularly with step-backs, side-steps, pull-ups, and euros.
On top of his NBA positional size and length, Evans has bought in defensively for Duke, one of the country’s elite defenses. He’ll slide his feet on the ball, hustle to make rotations and closeouts, give quality contests with his length, and has shown quick hands at times...Like most prospects, there is still plenty to clean up with defensive consistency and technique while continuing to add strength to a maturing frame. However, the physical tools and care factor are there for Evans to make another real defensive leap in a larger role, at least as a defensive playmaker (0.3 stocks per game in 14.2 MPG).
At a wiry 6’6”, Isaiah Evans brings a sensational blend of pure-shooting, tough shotmaking, and microwave scoring. His NBA role floor is nearly identical to his current one at Duke: a floor-spacing wing and outstanding movement shooter that can attack closeouts.
Evans’ NBA ceiling is as a primary scoring option, but it’s directly connected to his on-ball creation and usage. That creates one of the most intriguing stay-or-go decisions to monitor at the end of the season. The talented wing’s best opportunity to grow his overall game and showcase his ceiling will be back in Durham for his sophomore campaign. In the five games where Evans logged at least 20 MPG, he’s netting 15.6 PPG and hitting 50% of his threes (20/44).
However, if he continues to maintain the increased minutes and produces down the stretch/tournament runs (ACC and NCAA) like I believe that he will, don’t be surprised if a first-round promise comes his way following a strong pre-draft process.
For me, Evans is a lottery-caliber talent with a coveted NBA skill, on-ball equity to unlock, and defensive tools.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Yeah, I like Evans a lot too and agree he's going to fly up boards in the predraft...
I think he's pretty underrated on most draft boards. I do believe that there is some untapped self-creation potential. When I watch him, at this stage it seems like he lacks burst and footwork to get separation from his defender...which was one of my main issues with Brandon Miller.
Right now he reminds me of a slightly shorter, slightly better defense and more compact shooting Brandon Miller.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
I will say that I really hope POR keeps their pick in this years' draft. Listening\Watching several draft experts talk about their top players, has me convinced that outside of the top 4, this draft is WIDE open, which means for a team who is adept at scouting\drafting is a GOLDEN opportunity to get a high-level player when other teams whiff\reach on prospects they have become enamored with
For example, is Kon Kneuppel a Top 8 prospect or a top 15 prospect? You could say the same thing about McNeeley, Maluach, Richardson, Fears & Johnson. and then you have guys like Jakucionis, Demin, Queen, Traore, one\some of these players are going to hit and it is the team who is on point scouting-wise that is going to reap the benefits.

Honestly, I like several of the players projected in the 20-35 range better than the ones in the 8-12 range.
This may be a good draft to trade down and take 2 swings at the draft.
I really like Sergio de Larrea, Richardson, Broome, Fleming, & Toppin.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
This team doesn't need any more role players, bench players or prospects. Our chances of getting into the top 4 are only 14% now and slipping.
We seemingly have a "future starting 5" in place already, in Scoot/Sharpe/Deni/Camara/Clingan. If we can't get someone with a fair chance to unseat 1 of those 5, what's the point?
So yeah...best move might be to include this pick in a package and go after someone. If we could repeat something like the Deni trade, that would be awesome actually.

Respectfully disagree.
Until they get that #1 guy, they absolutely need to keep drafting and stack this team with as many young talented players as they can, so when that guy does become available, they have the assets (players\picks) to acquire that guy without sacrificing those core players (Deni, Camara, Clingan, Sharpe, Scoot)
Because right now, they are not going to get that player by peddling Simons, Ayton, Williams, Grant & Thybulle & guys like Reath, Murray, Walker & Banton have little\no value
Also, I am unconvinced that the right #1 guy is even available. Right now the names being tossed out as potentially available: LaMelo Ball, RJ Barrett, Zion, Durant, Trae Young are either too old, too injury prone or not transcendent enough to lead this team to anything more than an early playoff exit.
The best way to get that player (particularly for POR) has always been through the draft, which is why this season, whether POR makes the stupid play in or not has been a colossal waste. Cronin and his media mouthpieces would have us believe that w\o guys like Simons\Ayton\Grant & Williams this team would have been amongst the league's worst, which has been proven to be a lie. This team is winning IN SPITE of those guys, Ayton & Williams out with injury, Grant having one of his worst years ever, Simons playing to his average
If Cronin had traded these guys like he should have, the young guys likely would have struggled a little more earlier, but the results that we are seeing now would have been the same (improvement as the year progressed), which in turn would have helped keep POR on a realistic path for a chance at a top 4 pick, which in this draft is where you want to be. So, now we are left with hoping they can find luck at the tail end of the lottery and hoping that they don't cash their chips in on a player who will not propel them to contender relevancy.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
I would actually prefer another Deni type of trade over continually hoping the team will draft that
#1 guy but this could go bad in a hurry if let's say the Blazers had traded multiple #1 picks for
Mykal Bridges.
In the end, we're looking at adding a player to add to Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Deni and Donovan. Which
late lottery pick is the best fit with the above group?

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
If this year’s lottery pick beats out one of Scoot, Sharpe, Toumani, Deni or Clingan, THEN that’s a win.
Moving up to get one guy is arguable.
Trading out for Deni by sacrificing a non-top7-or-8 lottery pick to get an ongoing target — is arguable.
Getting a top 10 rookie makes for better results than missing out on free agents and then paying more for role players. Not getting a high pick in the lottery is disappointing even when last year’s bad luck turned into great results during the draft.
Busy summer coming up.

Who fits that similar Deni talent level and is avaliable for a #10 or so pick?
I still really like Jarace Walker, but am not sure I swap #10 for him as he has not broken meaningfully into their rotation after 2 years and most importantly, he is 2 years less cost controlled than anyone we take at #10.
I do wonder if RWIII could be appealing to IND if they lose Turner in FA (Or let him walk b/c of $$$) -
RWIII + 10 for Jarace + filler + 21. Or simply 10 + filler for Jarace + 21 (But I think this is short for IND)

To each his own - the only guys I would comfortably rank above Jarace from this class are Cooper, Harper, Ace, VJ, Tre then its a tossup with guys like Noa, Kasparas, Sorber and Fleming.
Coming out of the draft with Jarace and a guy like Hugo Gonzalez at 21 would be much preferrable in my eyes than using 10 on someone like Asa or one of the shooters (Liam / Kon).

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
I really think if we end up at 10 someone like Liam McNeely would be a good fit for us. Another versatile 3/4 that can shoot. Since he came back from the early season injury he's looked good.
We really need to get rid of Simons, Ayton, Tis and RW3 this offseason if possible. With all 4 basically being expiring I would think we could get a decent return back. Nothing crazy but just some assets. Grant's contract seems unlikely to be able to move anytime soon and he legit is a Portland dude in terms of liking the city and being cool with being here.
With them blowing any chance at Flagg this season for a number of preventable reasons I am just not sure what direction the team is headed.
I think we have a solid young core with Scoot / Shae / Toumani / Deni / ClingKong however anyone preventing them from playing needs to go and honestly anyone besides those 5 should be available in my opinion.

I would prioritize moving Simons and Ayton. Both are expiring and IMO will have a market this summer if we are not asking for much - which we shouldnt be.
MT and RWIII I can go either way. Would move MT before RWIII - especially if we can move Ayton (Also - if Cronin values RWIII at a FRP then he will be here until he expires).
Grant is untradable - I hope he moves to the bench and we use him as a swing backup to Camara and Deni. This works minutes wise IMO -
F - Camara (30) / Grant (6) / Sharpe or FRP or Rayan (12)
F - Deni (30) / Grant (18)

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Jarace Walker was a favorite of mine in his draft class. A bit of a log jam with veterans in Indiana. At 6’6.5” (about 6’8 in shoes) with a 7’2.25” wingspan and nearly 250 lbs, he’s a serious athlete at PF.
With Sabonis said to want clarity in Sacramento, trade for him. He’s 28, but there’s plenty of tread on the tire. Ayton + Sharpe? It wouldn’t be cheap.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Something to factor when trading their pick for a young player is the benefit to the salary cap\luxury tax\apron you get by drafting a rookie
Jarace Walker has a club option for the next 2 years and then is a RFA. A rookie selected would have 5 years on the clock at a reduced salary (not a RFA until 29/30)
Walker would be a RFA the same year as Scoot & Camara is a UFA.
a year after whatever deal Sharpe signed (same if POR resigned any of Simons\Ayton\Williams or Thybulle)
and a year before Clingan is a RFA and Deni is a UFA

Mykal Bridges.
In the end, we're looking at adding a player to add to Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Deni and Donovan. Which
late lottery pick is the best fit with the above group?
Some of these would NOT be available or if they were, would be for a huge haul, but looking at players that match the core of this group, age-wise and in terms of fit, this is what I cam up with.
Note: Already rumors of Barrett, Young, Ball,(maybe) Zion being shopped
ATL - Daniels (21), J. Johnson Jr (23), Young (26), Okongwu (24)
BOS - J.Brown (26)
BRK - C. Johnson (28)
CHA - L.Ball (23) - please, no
CLE - J.Allen (26), D.Garland (25)
DAL - M. Christie (21), D. Lively (20)
DEN - Murray (28), Porter Jr (26)
DET - Ivey (23)
GS - Kuminga (22), Podziemski (22)
HOU - J. Smith Jr (21), Whitmore (20), Eason (23)
IND - Haliburton (24), Mathurin (22), Nembhard (25)
LAC - none
LAL - Reaves (26)
MEM - J. Jackson Jr (25), Morant (25), Bane (26)
MIA - Adebayo (27), Herro (25) - Can't see anything making sense here
MIL - none
MIN - McDaniels (24), Reid (25)
NO - Zion (24), D. Murray (28), Murphy (24), Jones (26)
NYK - Anunoby (27)
OKC - Wiggins (24), I'll list J.Williams (23), Holmgren (22) here, but I don't see any way OKC trades either even for a godfather package
ORL - Suggs (23), F. Wagner (23)
PHI - Maxey (24)
PHX - Booker (28)
SAC - K. Murray (24), Sabonis (28)
SA - Vassell (24)
TOR - Barrett (24), Dick (21), Quickley (25)
WAS - Kispert (25)
UTA - Sexton (26), Markkanen (27)
IF POR does trade the 25' 1st, I can't see any other players it would be who are not on this list

I liked Walker too, and am surprised he hasn't gotten more run in IND. He was always a bit of a tweener, "master of none" type though so who knows. I think he's still only 21...
That being said, I think there are players in this draft around where the Blazers will be picking that have just as high of ceilings or offer similar skillsets as Walker (thinking of Fleming, Sorber, Queen and Broome specifically). And yeah, they have more years of cost control...
As for Sabonis? I think the cost for him would far exceed Ayton and Sharpe. I think Ayton included in the deal would be seen as a negative. No point in negating whatever positive value Sharpe has with the negative of Ayton.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Rasheer Fleming is a good example of why it might be good for POR to use the pick instead of trade it. I don't know enough about him to say anything one way or the other, but people here like him and draft scouts have him moving into\around late lottery status.
I bring him up b\c let's say POR does take him and let's say he proves to be a good player, well now POR has 3 forwards to utilize in a trade and instead of having to sacrifice Deni or Camara in a deal they can trade Fleming or keep Fleming and deal one of Deni\Camara away and still be solid at the forward spot. That is why you keep drafting as many guys as you can, not all will pan out (I doubt Murray will for instance, but Camara and maybe Rupert from that same draft did\might) but those that do give the team a lot more flexibility to deal from a position of strength instead of weakening themselves to get "that guy".
I would also add, it is why trading away their 24' 2nd for cash was such a stupid\cheap maneuver, having an Ighodaro or Larsson on the roster just gives them another young asset. Unlike the end of the bench guys they have now, who are pretty worthless.

Re: 2025 Blazer Draft Prospects
Since we're on the topic of Fleming again...I've watched him more than any other prospect so far in this draft cycle. This video I feel like is the most non-biased, easy to see positives and negatives all rolled into one.
Granted, it's 1 game sample size...but overall it's a pretty good indicator.
--He's not super quick, or particularly athletic...in fact he seems awkward at times.
--He's incredibly strong and long.
--The base of his shot is slow, but the top of his shot is compact and pretty quick.
--He likes spinning to his left on his self-creation.
He'll be close to 21 on draft day. I'd love for him to be a Blazer. I think he's going to go Top 10 when it's all said and done. Especially if his wingspan is in the 7'4"-7'5" range as reported.
