Name me one coach that doesn't go deep into his bench on the 2nd night of a B2B? Maybe not even 10 deep but at least 9? I mean come on that's just logical preschool level common sense there. Hart only sat 2 minutes! He's been battling injuries since the all star break and he sat 2 minutes!!? How can anyone in their right mind even defend this?

He can’t even do that consistently. Him, Mikal and OG all have just regressed this year. While some of the blame is on the players, a lot of it has to do with Thibs not running plays and schemes to put them in a better position to succeed. Like Duece is not a point guard, so why the hell would you start him as one.

I honestly feel this team would be so much better if someone like Reddick was the coach.

I don’t think Duce regressed per se - he is what he is. An undersized SG who’s a quality 8th man.

The Birdges/OG thing has a lot to do with the redundancy in their games. They do the same thing and play the same position. Playing them together makes them less effective not more effective ie 1 + 1 =1.5 vs 1+1=3. On a deep, balanced roster it wouldn’t matter but when you look at the cost to acquire these guys and the subsequent roster issues it’s a problem

What should happen over the next 2 weeks:
1) Sit Towns while Brunson is out. Get his knee as close to 100% as possible
2) Limit the wings to 30 MPG against the good teams. Play them heavy minutes against teams like Washington to hold onto the 4th seed
3)Rotation should look like

PG: Payne (28), Kolek (20)
SG: Bridges (12), McBride (30), Shamet (6)
SF: Anunoby (25), Bridges (18), Shamet (5)
PF: Hart (30), Precious (13), Anunoby (5)
C: Robinson (23), Precious (25)

Give Kolek a 2 week chance to see what we got. Have Precious and Shamet eat minutes.

Right now our best case scenario is being the 4th seed and getting to a 2nd rd series against Cleveland healthy.

Has OG been mentioned as a trade candidate already?

Good thing the Knicks were without the selfish Jalen Brunson. Offense runs like a well oiled machine without his toxic me first play!

The funny thing is that Thibs lack of imagination leads people to believe our bench sucks. Get another coach in here who knows how to manage minutes and the likes of Kolek and Pacome start getting minutes and then the league will start saying we have one of the deeper benches in the NBA. It's all about perspective. If you don't even give your players a shot, how do you know what you got?

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know who is willing to take that shot and can also defend just as well as Hart? Precious. If you are not getting anything offensively from Hart, Precious can do just as well starting in place. It would also improve interior defense.

Kolek is injured at the moment but I would love to see what Kolek could offer in this period. I know people are concerned about him being attacked on defense but I can't imagine he is much worse than Brunson is defensively. I don't mind Deuce playing a bigger role on the team but not as a point guard or in the typical small scoring guard role that Thibs normally has for his on-ball players.

Also what's going on with Pacome? Is he injured also? He and Kolek were both sent back down to the G-League a couple days ago. I don't expect Thibs to play him but it was odd seeing 2 fringe NBA players that just joined the team on the bench. I remember when Ryan joined the team and immediately jumped ahead of the rookies in the rotation when he hadn't done anything to earn it.

Not having Brunson exposes how nobody else can get their own shot or run an offense. This is another way the team misses Randle, it did not look pretty but his gravity and passing would be a huge help.

This roster was not that balanced and deep, everything was squeezed out of them to get to that 40-20 record

I could see that.

I could also make the argument that having an injury hit year next year (assuming nothing career altering) resulting in a lottery pick (26 in the only year we control our pick until 30) could be the best thing that happens to this franchise.

this is true. even if we had kept randle, my biggest need going into the offseason (without considering we're going to lose i-hart) was another ball handler. we needed secondary creation. a legit vet playmaking PG to run the 2nd unit and/or a combo guard type that can get their own shot and dish.

and that was again even if we kept Randle - who is an offensive hub himself.

instead we lost him, ihart, and divo - and added Kat, bridges and payne. none of them are playmakers or guys that can really get their own shot.

we added talent but somehow got even more reliant on brunson. and with thibs as coach that is a recipe for disaster. we all love JB but he is not a playmaking guard regardless of his assist numbers.

i think a better - more creative coach could get more out of the roster, but it is still very flawed and limited. if we had a vet PG that either started but only played 20-25 mins or came off the bench and occasionally closed, it would help a lot.

Knicks fans been complaining about iso since the Melo and Ewing days. They want a team of scrappy Tyler Koleks and Franks passing the ball around the perimeter for infinity!

The Mavs had 8 injured players last night and they still managed to play their bench more than us.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.
