He was until the Spurs told him no because they're probably going to retire that # for Kawhi (which is insane to think about considering how his departure went down) so they made his pick another one and he decided to wear #4 because it was his wife's number in college.

It is. You get guys who can play off ball, crash the glass, and just generally not afraid to do the dirty work when Wemby isn't there to do it for them.

Spurs have the assets to get those players and yet they settled on Fox, who is one of the worst 2nd options, to pair with Wemby.

Castle is a rookie and he is already outplaying Fox.

So essentially Sabonis.

He would instantly be their second best player, unless Murray was on one of his periodic hot streaks.

Yeah, this is a case where people get so mad at Lavine for not being a true #1, that they forget he's a fantastic #2. He's absolutely worth the money for the right team, and the Bulls shouldn't have given him away for nothing.

Mitch never needed to be a teams #1 option. He never had a winning record with Sacremento. Lavine has only had one winning season in his professional career.

I am not sure what you mean by this. Is the implication that Zach needs/wants to be his team's #1 option? If so, I don't see any evidence for that.

I wouldn’t say he’s a ‘fantastic’ second option, he’s a very capable volume scorer/initiator who’s bad or okay at everything else. Agree that he’s a great scoring second option but that’s different from being a great second guy in general.

Why im sure how a nice scoring-only second option on a max deal on a bad team (and with an injury history) is worth more than the price of getting off his contract.

Sabonis would be fantastic next to Wemby. Can shoot, rebound, and pass. He removes the need for a quality backup C because he can control the paint when Wemby is on the perimeter or on the bench.

Spurs would be a top 4 seed with Sabonis and Wemby.

Wouldn't Zach be a fantastic fit on Spurs?

Zach is the better player

Fox is fools gold, and I've wanted him off the Kings for years - inefficient, non spacing non playmaking guard basically

The spurs traditionally have a good FO, so dont know why they bit

Spurs didn't give up crap all for Fox so even if he plays subpar, they'll be fine as long as they don't overpay on the extension.

Since you can see into the future where did the 27 and 31 picks end up?

The time the trade was made, Spurs made out like bandits based on what they gave up.

Now if the Kings knew Wemby was gonna have his career ended for those picks to be great then I wonder why they haven't made more of these type of trades...

They got 2 unprotected 1sts and 5 2nd rounders. Yet you’ve concluded they made out like bandits. So again where did the picks end up and what players came from them?

To be clear, it was the Bulls who got screwed the most in this trade. Kings did good value wise even though they need a true PG more than a Lavine.

Like I said though, if you're going by that logic then any trade for a future draft is TBD by your logic. Might as well trade Tatum for a future 2nd Rounder because that pick can turn into a Jokic lol.

Not worried about Fox at all. Dude's been on the road for like a month and a half straight basically, is playing through an injury on his shooting hand, brand new team with a coach that inexplicably starts a PG next to him and diminishes his strengths, he has terrible spacing around him, and his Batman went down with a season ending injury after a small number of games together.

Next year when Fox's hand is healed, Wemby is back, and Castle is starting next to him, we can truly begin to judge his fit on the roster

Bulls FO got a $9M expiring for Lavine, there's probably high 5s all around as they saved another buck.

"Terrible Spacing" and yet Castle is playing the best basketball of his career with the same players.

Fox was brought in to help the team, not for the team to help him. If he needs help from Wemby, then he is no better than the other scrubs and not worthy of being a #2 option
