Should’ve sat him instead of Barrett. Those 3s are killing the tank

LAST 11 GAMES: 21/5/5 on 44/40/80 shooting splits in only 31minutes of action

PER 36: 24ppg / 6apg / 6rpg (only 2TOV --- an excellent 3:1 Assist to Turnover ratio)

Yes, he's putting up all-star numbers and has been terrific. We're also 5-6 in those 11 games.

The Celtics, who don't even really need to be pure 5 out, have it as their entire playoff rotation. Giannis hasn't played in a non-spacing rotation in years. The OKC Thunder, who don't even really need to be 5 out either, had two before adding Hart. They wanted to play a certain way, and made trades to fit it.

The Lakers needed a C and wanted a young one to pair with Luka, and got him (before turning down the deal due to health!). They had requirements they wanted met and got what they felt fit.

Don't worry, we're not contending anytime soon. Teams who prioritize team building properly, target and get them. Turner has been on the trading block his entire career.

Masai prioritized getting a bad fit, at a very high price as it turns out, and got him. That's the issue. Not the actual supply of role players. He thinks this makes sense, he reiterated it in his latest media avail, that's why the team is built the way it is.
So...you didn't really answer my question. Who are these guys? Are they role players that don't have massive contracts? How do we get em? You made it sound so easy...show your work as the teachers used to say.

Even just focusing on your high end players who are playing for contenders. Over the span of time we had Siakam and/or Barnes, Horford was traded twice. Once for a loss that cost the Sixers a pick to get rid of him, and then again to the Celtics where it only cost them a pick to gain. Either time you could have packaged Fred/Gary to get him to fill your hole if you cared (instead of seeing them walk for nothing).

Porzingis, the other guy on the team that targeted spacing for team building, didn't even cost a 1st! Somehow the Celtics actually gained picks in that one. Again, a play to sell Fred/Gary here at anytime.

Turner isn't being moved because the only guy who has been willing to pay either multiple firsts or low protection lotto picks for a role player prior to the Lakers trying to satisfy Luka's needs has been Masai. Have to mention it here again, but Fred was yet again the contract you could have moved for Turner if you wanted to fill that need.

Masai chose to pay a hefty price for Jak instead of Turner because he believes Jak fits with anyone (he's wrong, but whatever). Not because he is unwilling to pay the price (we've been throwing picks in trades for years). At any point in time he could have pivoted to focus on this aspect of team building, but he wanted to play small ball with Fred, and then believed the Fred/Jak P&R was the future. That's why we're here now. He believes in this flawed version of team building.
Right so like...2 or 3 guys. In a league of 400+ players there MIGHT be 5 or 6. You can count em on 1 hand.

Are you understanding the point im getting at here?

Its those guys we think of immediately. The small handful. And then its a big drop off to guys like jalen Smith who's spacing ability has always been more theoretical and plays 18 minutes a game on a bad young team. I'd still take a chance on em because of how rare it is but let's not get out of touch here and say its soooo easy to find em. Its simply not.

We had 2 on our team at once in marc and serge so maybe guys are a little out of touch...but that's so rare. As every season since should be showing you.

This has been the problem. I remember several people here saying all you needed to do was trade Yak to ensure bottom 5.

Anybody who actually watched the half-dozen or so other bad teams knew not only was that NOT going to be enough, but that the Raps kids and rookies would probably beat other bad teams' tanking lineups too.

This is how i feel whenever these mythical rim protecting stretch 5s that are apparently available in abundance get brought up. Exactly this.

I focused on the high end guys just to show you how available they were. And how your point is irrelevant based on mine.

The Celtics also got lower tier role players like Baynes and Theis to spread the floor. Very odd that they had such a high percentage of the position filled with players who could shoot the 3. Must be luck. Until you realize that orgs target players and build their teams based on whatever philosophy they are following.

Masai focused on 'the vision' (excluding the Fred/Gary show). Drafting players like Barnes over consensus Suggs. Trading for Precious. Drafting Banton. Trading for Thad. Signing Boucher.

While a team like the Cavs were begging for some SF size, we cornered the market on them.

He could have focused on adding those bigger Cs and commiting to the vision, but he wanted to build around Fred. Then he traded for Jak instead of a spacing C, because he believes that works. Nico traded for AD in part because he believes the D is more important than his much younger superstar. Some of these approaches aren't very well thought out.
