Re: Summer Decisions
I'd take my chances with a make-good deal for Deangelo Russell over Poole and his remaining $66m over 2 more years. He's where Poole will be when he becomes a FA...talented but not really coveted. Maybe we're the right spot for him.

Good point. I remember that Kyrie was with Brooklyn. Around 90% of this board didn't want Kyrie because of what was between his ears.Skybox wrote:JRoy wrote:basketballRob wrote:Simons and Poole are essentially the same players, but it would cost way less for Poole in a trade.

Poole is really, really dumb.
Yeah...I pushed hard for Poole. I was wrong...I throw "knucklehead" around a lot - Poole is REALLY a knucklehead. What's between your ears is so much more important than any other skill or attribute.

and I completely own my misguided previous fling with Poole
But DLo has, perhaps, hit bottom after being passed around and jettisoned his whole career, despite good size, great skills, great stats. Maybe he could be had for an MLE deal and rolled out at least as a 6th man in the usual Cole role...who knows, maybe he shows a lot in camp and early season and he shows himself to be THE answer
I don't know, but I imagine it'd be a lower risk bet than Poole, due to the finances only.

I'm not sure we use the mle this season because we may already be in the tax. We'll probably make trades and look for bargain basement deals.Skybox wrote:basketballRob wrote:Good point. and I completely own my misguided previous fling with PooleI was SURE he was going to tear it up on a vacant WAS team last year and he came out of the gates slowww. I thought he'd lead the league in scoring (inefficiently but...) with a green light and the ball in his hand-but he was putting up like 5 or 6 ppg for much of the season...it was bizarre. He's looking really good this season but I can't get back on that bus.

Probably right...we didn't even use the injury exemption to fill Moe's giant hole in the bench offense. It won't be fun for most to digest, but this summer might even primarily be focused on unloading negatives like KCP & WCJ, even if it takes some slight draft equity to do
*I don't know what exactly the "situation" is that I'm referring to but 13 guys can't ALL have forgotten how to shoot at the same time. It's like there's a ghost haunting the rims in ORL (did Martins do Pat Williams dirty at some point?)

Re: Summer Decisions
We all know KD could be on the market. If the price is reasonable, would you make a trade for him to add it to Franz and Paolo?
Also 2025 Free Agent class include guys like Kyrie and Julius Randle, could they be our target in the summer?
This summer should be very important for the Magic organization. If we can not improve the team and make an upward trajectory, we could be at a cross road.

Re: Summer Decisions
We still need a PG, should be priority #1. Let’s take care of the needs in our roster first then worry about adding another forward.

What a depressing thread. All those empty stats losing players like Simons, Russell and Poole. Give me a real PG and some cheap shooters instead.

All good PGs are out of our price range for longer period of time. Decision to keep Fultz and no go for Vleet will hunt us.

DLo isn’t it. It’s worse than keeping Cole.

Can we sign Coby White to a deal near Suggs?
This means moving on from at least Cole, WCJ and one of Goga/Moe/JI?

You're right...desperation and opportunity blinded me to everything I've ever felt about DLo.
I think Coby signs for a lot less than Suggs' deal...more like KCP's, imo. Maybe even a little less, like $20m per...unless Weltman overpays.

Re: Summer Decisions
I don't think we'll have desperation this summer. We're only a couple of players away. 2 years ago, Dallas was in the lottery and the next year in the finals. Last season, Memphis was in the lottery, and they have the 6th best record this season.
The worst thing to be is mediocre. That's why I think we should shift to developing players for the rest of this season and get the highest pick possible.
Miami's first round pick is top 14 protected, so they will be our biggest threat to staying in the lottery.

Re: Summer Decisions
Guys, we don't have $30M to spend . Current roster + Moe + rookie or two , without bottom roster additions = First apron & Luxury tax team.

Which is why most of these dream scenarios people post are unrealistic.

Re: Summer Decisions
What about Topic from OKC or Reed Sheppard from Houston? Both are blocked and maybe draft capital and a player could do it although I think both are stocked with picks. It might take something like this to get a worthwhile player.

Re: Summer Decisions
Were not taking a gamble on another project player. For the first time in years, this front office is going to make moves based on established players. No way we go into next year with two FRP rookies. I expect one of those picks to be used along with current players salaries (Cole, WCjr, JI) to get us some backcourt help. I can see us keeping that Denver pick and hope to get a gem on low salary that may be a rotation player.

Nice to hear actual suggestions instead of hearing about who ins't good enough for our crappy offense...while we roll out the worst offensive backcourt in the league...by a mile
I'd love to grab Topic and OKC has more pressing opportunities to get a ring...maybe we can find a way. I posted an idea the other day that had us "help" OKC get Durant and immediately be the favorites to win it all and we walk away with Topic and Isaiah Joe...who are somewhat extraneous. We'd supply a couple of picks to PHX to lighten the burden on OKC...could imagine a similar scenario with HOU wanting Durant...whoever gets KD probably vaults into the #1 slot (assuming they're already good - MIN, OKC, HOU, DEN). Maybe we can get in the mix...maybe even an ambitious MIA sheds Herro?
