I bet the Suns would love Duncan’s ETO, how much would waiving him save them in money against the 2nd apron? Like from the owners pockets

Meaning they would likely end up accepting 2 1sts a young piece and cap relief. We can get her done.

Sexton is not a bad pickup but the issue would be with what money? Remember we still need to pay Mitchell and avoid being in the tax again. For this organization it’s the Tax thats the #1 enemy.
Sexton will be heading into the final year of deal and Utah will most likely continue to draft young players instead of giving Sexton a big contract. I assume we can extend Sexton somewhere in the neighborhood of what Rozier makes

The ETO saves 10 million off the cap with 9 million guaranteed. His cap savings are actually more valuable to us in the grand scheme.

There’s teams like Houston who have cap space to absorb money with the Suns not needing to eat the dead cap. Very rare do teams eat that type of dead money in cap space. Suns are going to want more than just expiring pick based package. FVV and his expiring makes a lot of sense for them as it keeps them competitive. Remember they don’t own any of there picks for years. Rozier and Duncan are not going to get it done.

But is this the move to fill out the roster after attaining a star or is this THE move?
The move that you want might not exist so this would be a move that continues to build the roster but also maintains flexibility while making us a more competitive team. Maybe the star comes via the lottery this year and continued growth of current core. Ware’s growth with Bam along with a better overall roster could mean just as much as adding one aging player making an absurd amount of the cap.

We can realistically catch the Spurs if we continue to be bad enough. If we slide past them in the standings I heard we get over a 20% chance of jumping into the top 4 pick. Just saying. Draft our PG of the future in either Harper or VJ.

I think there's a better chance of Herro making an All NBA team than the Hawks trading Young to the Heat within the next 2-3 seasons. And to be clear I think there's like a 5% chance of Herro making an All NBA team.
When was the last time a team traded a 26 year old, 4 time allstar to a team in the same division as them?

How does that translate to a team in the 2nd apron? Like if the suns brought him on and cut him would it save the owner like $60M out of pocket?

We do not need to pay Mitchell. I'd argue that he's overpaid at his current salary. We need to quit falling for the Gabe Vincent two-step. Replacement level players get replacement level money or they can walk.
Mitchell brings shooting warts but does have a useful skill set. He’ll go into RFA but don’t think they’ll be very many over pay offers out there. Might able to be had cheap like something along the lines of 6-8 mil but we might also let him walk depending how the cap looks after trades. They did only have to give up a 2nd for him. As of today the team is counting on Duncan’s ETO to get them well under the tax line in order to even attempt to match a Mitchell offer.

The 10 million off the books would save them a good chunk of change but in this context your making it seem like it heightens our offer which it really doesn’t due to the dead money and making the Suns into a lottery team. They have incentive to cut money but also have zero incentive to tank without there pics that the Rockets own. Suns will be looking for a team with cap space to absorb instead of having to settle for something like we would offer.

Re: 2025 Regular Season Thread Vol. 8
The compensation for the Suns just swapping out Durant’s expiring for two useless expiring’s in Rozier and Duncan with Anderson or HH just for matching purposes with JJJ and some picks does not seem like a deal that’s going to be made. Talking like an odd 4-1 type deal with most of the sum parts being garbage. Suns better off swapping Durant for someone like FVV and whatever young fillers they could get and there own picks they could get back. I didn’t even mention that after you trade 4-5 playes for one Durant we are pressed up at the tax line with no money for reinforcements or even to sign our own pick. Think about it

Re: 2025 Regular Season Thread Vol. 8
This team is out of moves and doesn’t have the assets to pivot the way we need to, given the lack of draft capital and bad contracts we have on board.
We’re currently in the 9 spot - I have zero interest in sending out the remainder of our limited capital for either a low impact combo guard (Sexton) or aging vet who needs to be paid and could fall off the cliff any season now (KD) to build some sort of treadmill team that has no actual chance to win it all. This build isn’t close. Some of the “solutions” being proposed here, like sending out more draft capital so that we can avoid conveying a lottery pick next year, are insanely shortsighted and would do nothing other than kick the can down the road and put us in the same/worse position a few years from now.

Completely disagree.
While this year has been insane. The Jimmy drama did cast a shadow for much of the year. Those things tend to affect team morale. Coach Spo isn’t having his best coaching season.
On the bright side…
Herro is a much better player, he’s being doubled team and targeted by opposing teams to try and make his life hell.
Bam is back to being Bam and is actually looking better than ever with an added 3pt shot.
Wiggins has been a great addition, he’s still working to build chemistry but he is a talented 3rd/4th option.
Mitchell is the best Poa defender we’ve had in years.
Niko has taken a big leap prior to injury, and is a great rotational big who has another leap or 2 in him.
Ware is a legit 7 footer that fell in our laps and has a lot more growing to do. Very promising upside big who can actually block shots ,hit 3’s, and a great lob threat (something we’ve never had)
All we’re missing is a true option a caliber player.
Enter Kevin Durant. He may be 35 but he has a solid 3/4 seasons of playing at this level. A 7foot elite shooter…. Who will have a say in where he goes.
Miami at the moment would have 2 picks this draft. Plus the ability to trade future picks.
Tradable assets in expirings of Terry, Duncan and a young player in Jaquez who is having a sophomore slump but has shown he is a SOLID rotational player.
HighSMITH who is on a bargain contract and a great 3 and d player.
Terry, Duncan, and Jaquez and 2 firsts for KD
Ware
Bam Anderson
KD
Wiggins
Herro Mitchell
Draft a PG with one of our picks we keep this draft.
If a player is available who fits the team better than Wiggins we could trade him and a future first alongside Haywood to facilitate a trade.
We have a lot of flexibility to get something significant done this off season.

Houston is working on a contract extension for FVV as you speak.

Herro has been a bright spot and he made the all star team, now he is up for an extension....
This was Bam season to come out of the shadows, that didnt happen but he is playing better.
Is Wiggins as a 3/4 option making over 30+ a good thing?
Mitchell is a RFA, so its time to pay or watch him leave, a friendly reminder we are in the tax this season...
Nico is an enigma, he plays good for a stretch then either get hurt or plays horrible, and he is also up to get paid....
Ware and Herro are honestly the main bright spots of this self inflicted season of purgatory. So now is the metaphorical pay up or shut up moment for the Heat. Herro, Mitchell and Nico are all up get paid, oh and JJJ is also up next season. The bill is coming due. We really dont have much flexibility and teams smell blood in the water, we lost our star player for pennies on the dollar, we are not doing horrible but in no world are we doing good or happy with the current state of thing and the Bill is due unfortunately.

I'll keep on saying it. This team is not a KD away. Trading your only limited assets for a 2-3 year run with KD would be dumb because you not close to contention with him. Save your assets and wait for a younger star to ask out. A younger star that will give you time to build a real contender around him

Maybe if we send a few firsts for 37 year old Durant, we can beat the Hornets next year.
