Wondering if we can get a backup center via free agency.
Somehow get a top 3 pick get VJ, then trade for mid round take Fleming and then sign back up center with whatever money we have.

Maluach is probably the best way to fill the position. VJ just adds to the logjam and he doesn't really scream superstar. He's small with a neutral wingspan.

or trade RJ for a back up C and a pick, grab Flemming if you like. With our pick I would be happy with any elite potential guard or forward. We need a closer legit star at the end of the games, Barnes is not it.Plus I like the chances of picking a centre later in the draft, there is no Embid in this draft and I would be very cautious with picking Malauch with a very high pick.

Didnt they just pay BI like 40M/yr to help fill that closer role late in games? They also already have Barrett, Quickley and Barnes.
Their biggest issue (imo) is defending size. Everywhere you look now teams are starting players well over 7 feet. Some even multiple players at least 7 feet tall.
They are still 2 years away from starting the window with this young core thats basically all between the ages of 21-24. Imagine this roster next year with another off season under the kids belt,BI, and a couple athletic bigs over 7ft tall and over 250 lbs to go along with Poeltl. Maybe even one that can shoot 15+ ft from the rim…

Elite closer for the future would be Anthony Edwards , Booker, Mitchell, Tatum et mold.Currently we have no-one close to that level and it doesn't seem as one of our players will take the leap and turn into one. B.I is a 2 to 3 year bridge for the future, who will help in the interim but is at best a weak all star. The chances of getting an elite guard/wing vs a superstar Centre are undoubtedly higher as well in this draft.Solid big men are routinely found later in drafts, we can also trade for 1 with the surpluses we have at Guard position and lastly we can easily find a solid back up with MLE for Jakob.(MLE space would need to be created first under current salaries, wont be hard)

The only way we address the backup center role is one of the following:
-Mogbo becames Draymond-like and simply outplays his size like the walking flagrant foul
-Ulrich Chomche is ahead of schedule and becomes the defacto backup big man at the 5, allowing Mogbo to play the 4
-We fall in the lottery or simply land outside of the Top 5 and pick Khaman Malauch
I don't think people realize how little cap space we'll have even if we only have the 5th pick. I'm pretty sure we won't even have access to the full MLE as a result of our expected 2025/26 salary.
Incidentally, this is why you haven't seen any news of a Boucher extension despite him being eligible: We don't know if we'll be able to pay him for what he's worth (And yes he is worth more than a minimum, don't be silly. BAE-level is what i'd say makes sense).

Yeah barring a trade of one of the higher paid players, new raptors on the roster will be limited to rookies and minimum contracts.
Don’t even waste your time thinking about exceptions this summer.

RJ, Dick, Abgaji and Poeltl for KD, Richards and #30
Trade down and trade up the Portland 2nd / #30? I dunno, get Condon, Fleming and stash Sergio de Larrea for a year.
This is my ideal summer.
PG IQ - Shead - Jakobe
SG Ingram - Jakobe - Lawson
SF KD - Mogbo - Battle
PF Barnes - Fleming - Mogbo
C Richards - Condon - Chomche

Any trade for a max player will either require IQ to be moved with smaller contracts, or RJ + Jak and a small contract as well just to make the math work and potentially avoid the tax.
Moving Jak likely means you're going to look to take back whatever small contract C they have for replacement depth.
Masai wants to fast track a retool, and that's what happens when you haven't spent time accumulating assets over the years. It's gonna hit your depth.

How do you know what Masai wants to do? I don’t think Masai is in the business of trading for KD at this point in time. Trading an expiring vet and another vet plus a garbage 1st for a 27 yo BI doesn’t mean he now wants to trade 3 sub 25 year olds and our only C for a washed up KD that can’t pull a team with booker on it into the playoffs.
I mean you have to be completely delusional if you think that’s going to happen SORRY!

Richards is making only $5 million so is needed since Poeltl needs to be sent for salary to get close to KD.

Don't know if he'll pull the trigger, but we've been in every trade rumour each season since Barnes was drafted, including KD this deadline. Executives were quoted that they feared Masai being in the mix here, as he always is.

I've been wrong about pretty much every deadline where we trade away 1st rounders for players instead of selling for assets. I'm quite delusional in thinking these types of trades won't happen. It's unfortunate the FO doesn't share that mindset.

Assuming TOR gets the 3rd pick overall and POR gets the 10th pick overall, would TOR agree to a pick swap assuming POR added Scoot for whatever salary?

Maybe if it was Brandon Miller. We have enough small guards.
