There is a big gap between a star and a glue guy. Scottie is neither.

Funny thing is Scottie at his "worst" is still better than Gordon at his best.

Scottie going to shine next to BI next year.

His growth this year was on the defensive end. Let's hope next year we see some offensive growth.

I would say his midrange at least looks better. I'm not sure if the #s back that up.

Even then, the mid range isnt something efficient that you want to use it for high volume. The disappointment is still being inconsistent in shooting wide open 3, was expecting he has time to work on his shot.

Definitely alarming he hasn't had a month over 30% this year.

Scottie's shot from 10-16 feet is materially better than any prior season in his career. He's shooting 48.7% from that zone this season. Previously, 39.8, 29.6 and 29.7%. And he's roughly doubling his usage in that space from previous seasons (by proportion).

And when you watch the games, he's clearly getting that right-to-left action, getting to that spot on the left mid-block and getting to that fadeaway quite effectively and consistently. He definitely looks a lot better there than ever before, even if he does have those games where he misses nearly a dozen shots in the paint and we all pull out whatever hair we have left, ala Homer Simpson each time Marge gives birth.

He's been trending down from earlier in the season when he was north of 50%, but he's still having success there, and those are jumpers, right? So they're streaky. As streaky as hook shots, really. Consider Al Jefferson (blast from the past!): Big Al was KNOWN for his wonderful footwork and ability to get clean looks off the block, and he shot 46.9% from 3-10 feet. Scottie's outperforming that from 10-16 feet right now, albeit on like 2 FGA/g. Still pretty impressive. It's not enough to account for his withering proportion of shots at the rim, his relative inefficacy when he gets there (he's shooting -1.4% FG compared to league average from 0-3 feet), nor his incompetence from 3 (including his weakness from the corner (3.1% worse than league average on corner 3s).

But he's definitely still showing significant and evident improvement both in his ability to make those middies and also to get to the shot. He's a slow, lumbering bull, but he's been pretty regular about using his handle and the breadth of his shoulders to get himself to some pretty specific spots. And he can do it on the right side, where he usually gets deeper before lofting an awkward hook which he has trouble finishing but is still a relatively clean look, deep in the paint.

It isn't enough by far, but he has CLEARLY improved there.

This is more like normal Scottie. I think last year was more the mirage due to the abbreviated season he had from injuries. He frequently has a month or two of good shooting from 3, and probably missed it with his various ailments this season.
