GT #64: WIZ @Pistons 7 pm 3/11/2025
Game’s about to start.
Wizards took 1 of 2 in Toronto. Hopefully they get a reverse sweep in Detroit.
Pregame show has Kyshawn starting tonight at SG and Champagnie starting at PF. No Bilal right hip contusion.

Corey “I can not hit a 3 nor play D” Kispert. Why are we giving so many minutes to this bum?

Sarr continues with his putrid FG %, particularly in 2s and missed FTs. It’s tough to watch…

On the plus side, Bub is having a solid game. He, Bilal and Kyshawn look like potentially competent starting material once they become more consistent and gain weight and experience.
We just need to find our number 1 and 2 options in the next 2 drafts

Some of the layups are ridiculous, almost like he's just closing his eyes and throwing it up. Not taking much from this year as far as finishing but if he's doing this next year we should have real concerns.

Troy Weaver 5th year as GM and they will make playoffs. We are probably on similar timeframe with Winger. From where the Pistons are, it’s still a long climb to being a threat for a championship. They are still not good enough that guys will force their way there and Cade an all star but not a top 20 player. We will be in the wilderness for at least 3 years and need to land a player as good as Tatum in the draft. Not reasonable to expect us to find a Giannis or Jokic.

Keep in mind this is Sarr's 3rd season as a pro.

Hate to be a broken record but Sarr needs to be able to play through contact near the basket, which means he needs to bulk up, which he can only do during the offseason.

Yep. Sarr's putrid shooting near the basket needs to improve massively. I heard Sam Vecenie say in his podcast that Sarr has the worst 2pt % of the entire team, and he is playing center...

3 years as a pro but also still only 19yo
But yeah, way too many of these shot attempts are just awful.

Things will improve dramatically when he grows into his body, he is a goofy 7 foot kid right now.

Sarr isn't as skinny as Chet, who doesn't have the same problems finishing inside 10 feet.

Sarr ranks dead last in the NBA with a TS% of .472. He is the only center among the bottom 40. The next worst-shooting center is Wendall Carter, who shoots almost a full 7% better than him (.540).

Funny how people aren't rushing to his defense like they did earlier in the year when I pointed out his dismal efficiency. I never understood the 'upside' argument before the draft and still don't. I am just hoping he can be a serviceable 4, which is a long way off.

Re: GT #64: WIZ @Pistons 7 pm 3/11/2025
I thought the response to this argument is if you compile a list of the performance of all 19 year olds, they all look atrocious. Comparing Sarr to a 25 year vet is an apples to oranges comparison. You want an indicator that shows future trajectory, not how they look now compared to non-teenagers.
Gaining the trust of an NBA organization to allow you out onto the court as a 19 year old already shows that you (may) have special talent. He's obviously not Kevin Durant, fine. How does Sarr do compared to other teenagers, historically?

Sadly still pretty poorly. I ran him against guys like Andrew Bynum and Jermaine O’Neal and others and Sarr was still lacking. I can dig it up on my laptop again but it’s disheartening. Unlike Bub who looks great for his age. And Kyshawn who’s solid.
For young Bigs you want to see high FG% on the inside and solid defensive rebounding. A decent FT/FGA ratio. You can expect a high foul rate while they learn not to jump to block everything. High turnovers while they build strength to not get stripped down low. Sarr is exactly flip flopped to what you want. The only thing hopeful is his assists which, along with steals from the big man position, are often a good indicator of eventual defense. But even his block rate is just okay.

Bagley is widely seen as a bust but he was much better at 19 than Sarr.

So it looks like, if he gets stronger he might not be a bust. But he probably won't be Mobley.
