I’ve always had a pet theory that guys that start getting more consistent minutes and usage tend to improve from the line simply because they get in a better rhythm. It’s easier to make free throws when it’s more of a regular occurrence than like once every few games. That’s what it feels like with Moody since he broke into the starting lineup.
I think this is particularly true with young players. JK and Moody are the two most obvious examples. It's not just FTs but the entire floor game opens up when the minutes, reps, and confidence are all there.
Also, I think Butler slows the game down for the rest of the team. While curry can run around in his organized chaos and then settle back down in a millisecond, most people can't do it. Just having a calming presence on the court helps a ton. It's a lot of what iggy did as well. We have a number of chaos merchants on this team but not enough steady hands to take the wheel. Butler has brought the balance back.
It's what they were hoping CP3 would bring but he was way too washed.
He did bring it, in the minutes and games he played, but they had other issues. Still wonder how that team would have looked if they could have made it to 6 and got that week of rest before a 1st round matchup with the Wolves.
In our heyday, we had iggy and livingston as the on-ball steadying presence. I can't believe we won the title with JP just adding all sort of chaos to steph and dray but we had enough vets in wigs, beli, otto to power through and Loon became moses malone for a few weeks. With butler, this all seems so much more sustainable but the league got better. Maybe exponentially so.
