Should coaches start wearing suits again?

Post#1 » by azcatz11 » Wed Mar 12, 2025 8:10 pm

The last time they did was 5 years ago right before Covid.

In my view, it makes them look way more professional. The track suit look just looks sloppy imo.

College coaches are bringing this back…I’m really hoping silver steps in and makes suits a requirement again.

No one cares. It's irrelevant. The coaches are not the focus.

Not trying to intentionally get political, but this took me back to Trump calling Zelensky out for not wearing a suit. My reaction at that time was, who gives a **** there are far more important issues at play.

I like the suit look. Of course people care. OP just opened a thread on it. And I agree.

No, who cares? It's a sport and ties suck. If I can help it I'll never wear a tie again.

I'd much rather teams go back to wearing the home whites for home games than this....

Sports leagues worked hard for decades to project a professional image so they would be taken seriously. Now that they're raking in billions and have nobody left to impress with their decorum, it serves no purpose other than to impress people who are impressed by such things.

The devil's in the details.

Coaches should wear suits, teams should have no more than 3 uniforms, footwear should match uniforms, and there should be far less visible undergarments.

I always thought coaches wearing suits was weird. They are coaching not attending a sports ceremony.

No, because sooner rather than later we will have the first female NBA coach and she would look very butch in a suit and tie.

But it would be more professional if some of these coaches at least wore something better fitting so their bellies weren't sticking out...

Yes, and people should care about their own, AND other peoples appearance. I'm tired of seeing 300 lb slobs wearing stinkin ass sweats that they slept in to the grocery store.

Zelenskyy made a choice to wear military fatigues, and his fashion choice since the beginning of the war was probably a deliberate reminder that Ukrainians are on the front lines dying everyday while everyone is suited up hiding behind those same dead Ukrainians.

But in another way, wearing a suit/formal wear does help you get taken more seriously. If at least it takes on the costume (and seriousness) of white corporate America. I read a lot about the 1960s civil rights movement where protestors made a deliberate decision to wear suits, dresses (Sunday best) with well groomed hair and it gave protestors more visual legitimacy to their plights, compare that against the casual fashion of recent BLM protests. Would there as big a backlash from white America to the BLM protests if everyone was wearing their Sunday best? Would the visuals of police beating on people wearing suits and dresses instead of T-shirts, jeans and other counter culture fashion be taken differently than if white America saw that these people dressed the same, looked the same as them?

So as sad as it is that it still matters how people look, perhaps if coaches do want to be taken more seriously, we may have to admit that fashion does play a part and that they should be wearing suits.

yeah suits look crisp and professional.

it's like working in a building w/ no windows and concrete walls vs a building with windows and murals and hand crafted architecture. there's something to being around high standards. it's inspiring.

Coaches should have to wear SVG fat suits.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

It will never happen but it made the NBA look cooler same way tuxes at boxing fights did. But it won't happen because the NBA sees more opportunity for selling **** merchandise.

I can't prove it but while I think everyone, including me, prefers the transition to casual clothing and working from home we'd probably be more happy if we dressed up and went out more.

I think players should start wearing suits, while playing. That would be fun. Or go naked, viewership might go up, or so can many other things.
