Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
In general, I'm not freaking out the way many people seem to be, both fans and in the media. We've lost a lot of players, but most of them just weren't any good last year - though you could argue that their fall-off last year was a big part of why we struggled this year. That said, I don't think that's true. This should still be a good offense - though I was REALLY hoping to upgrade Brendel.
The defense has lost some players, but I think it was the coaching that held that unit back more than anything. The addition of Saleh alone should help us rebound, and it's a really, really deep defensive draft. You can probably find a solid starting DT in the 5th. CB isn't top-heavy, but is pretty deep. There are a bunch of LBs in the Dre Greenlaw mold of smaller, faster players - granted it would be a lot to expect any of them to be Dre.
The problem was that we were overpaying for mediocre play. You can't do that. So we reset. We add cheap depth in FA that doesn't represent much of a drop from the guys we had. Hopefully get one or two guys in the draft who can make an impact in year one. I don't think we'll be the favorites, but I don't see any reason why we can't be right in the mix, especially if Aiyuk can come back healthy and we can upgrade the center position.

let's say I'm less freaking out than yesterday I guess but i didn't like the Juice/Floyd moves at all and we have GAPING holes across our entire F7 that will be impossible to fill in one off-season, along with all the other pre-existing holes we need to address.

I didn't understand the Floyd one at all.

Yeah, we still have some time to see where the dust settles. But right now, cutting Floyd is a real head scratcher.
Juice on the other hand, made quite a bit of sense. Sure he's a great guy and a locker room leader, and that does have value. However, his on field value has long since not equated to his contract. He's frequently more of a detriment than an asset out there. An every down FB is archaic at best. An every down FB who is well past his prime, is just a terrible thing to move forward with.
Moving on from Juice (and Deebo) also signifies that Kyle has realized that its time to overhaul his scheme. Which is a good thing.

No thanks. And that's not because I think Allen is all that good, and I wouldn't like to see an upgrade at QB2. But right now, Lance isn't that guy.
Trey seems like a great guy, but at this point you can't even say you would feel good with him being your QB2.
If he's going to be somebody's QB2, he's going to have to win that job in camp competing with somebody.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
I agree with the folks saying that losing a lot of defensive players isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The defense was absolutely atrocious last season. An overhaul on that side of the ball, is actually kind of welcomed. When your defense is firmly ranked in the bottom 5 of almost every metric, you really need to consider some personnel changes.
Greenlaw is the only one that really stings, but even with him we don't know how he's going to perform moving forward. Ward was great in 2023, but was pretty bad last season. Granted the tragedy of losing his daughter, likely played somewhat of a role in that, but before that he wasn't particularly good last season.
As mentioned earlier the Floyd cut doesn't seem to make much sense. He's a useful player, in a position group that is now razor thin. But I'm sure they have some sort of a plan, or at least I hope they do.

Again, there is literally no upside to do it right now. I would rather wait and see, not sure if there are great alternatives out there or not. I still think that high ankle sprain he got last year messed with him quite a bit and I thought I saw some talk they brought him back probably a week or two early
upside? Who cares lol. the guy sucks and shouldn't be on the roster, and he'll just take a spot from someone else who should be competing for kicker. There is no scenario in which Moody should be on this team this season.
I don't think carrying a camp kicker not named Moody is all that beneficial.
Currently, roster spots are not a concern. Right now it makes sense to lean on your pre- draft evals, and hope Moody can figure it out.
If he doesn't, the caliber of kicker you are wanting to replace him with right now will still be available at the end of training camp.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Maybe I’m just seeing what I want to see, but imo the Juice thing is at least partly about Kyle finding a bit of humility. Using him as much as we did was always archaic, but it was seen in a kind of ‘we do us, we dictate and make other teams adjust to us’ and now it feels like we are more prepared to be the ones adapting to change.
Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t clamouring to get juice off the roster or anything, just how I’ve interpreted letting him go.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Juice was great in a locker room and both Kittle and McCaffrey publicly came out against it on their social media platforms, it's not just about he can do on the field to me, dude was a real connective tissue on this team in the locker room and some things are not measured in snaps.

I would have to believe that they approached Juice and asked him about a contract re-structure and/or informed him that he would have less of a role moving forward.
If that's accurrate, Juice said no thanks.
In any event:
Having a FB carry that big of a cap hit doesn't make sense.
Having an every down FB doesn't make sense in the current landscape.
Having an aging/declining every down FB makes even less sense.
Having an aging/declining FB in any role who is carrying that type of cap hit makes no sense.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
I really hope Kyle takes a closer look at his offense this offseason, especially the pure dropback game. I think a big part of our struggles last year stemmed from being in obvious passing situations more often, where Kyle's playcalling is not as effective, and where our OL, and particularly interior OL, could not hold up well. If we want Purdy to throw more, we need to put him in favorable situations more often. An empty backfield with two bad IOL, a mediocre LT, slow-developing routes, and bad looks for a hot read is not the way to do it.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Our first signing this FA was a blocking TE and we spent 20m on him, pretty sure we're emphasizing running over passing with moves like that

Not necessarily. He's an elite pass-blocker and only a decent run-blocker.
The $20 million is probably somewhat overstated. It's probably more like two years, $10 million. Still seems like a lot for a blocking-only TE, but maybe not as bad as we initially thought.

Still, zero indication that we will be throwing the ball more this year, but maybe they will feel the need to if they hand Brock 50m a year I guess

I'm guessing he'll free up Kittle in the passing game and not have to have Kittle stay into block as much as he did.
Also I suspect he'll have a Juice like role and probably go out for those sneaky long passing attempts that catches defenses completely off guard.

Not based on the moves so far, but again, when healthy, it's not like we are hurting for pass catchers. If Aiyuk can return by midseason, and everyone else stays healthy, we'll still have one of the best collections of skill players in the league.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
I'm not holding my breath, dude is going to step in and be a shut down type of corner. But this is pretty encouraging to see, albeit is a small sample size.
Adding a guy with some press man chops, is a welcomed addition. We've all long bemoaned the soft ass zone coverages. While some of that is generally a scheme type of thing, its also a personnel issue.
