You’ll want that as a coach but also talked to him a little bit knowing that we’ve got a good enough team where our bench guys can come in and we don’t need to play 48 (minutes), 47.

“I think he’s not arguing about it. Sometimes I think he just gets in his ways and he gets locked in. He just wants to keep the guy out there,” Bridges said. “Sometimes you’ve got to tell him, like Landry (Shamet), for example or somebody, keep him out there, they’re playing well.”

What are you coaching when the players have to tell you to keep someone out there?
They sub themselves in and out.

Mikal getting traded or Thibs getting let go

Either one or both is happening this offseason

I wonder if ESPN would actually discuss this exchange on First Take tomorrow. Dissension between Thibs and Mikal would definitely attract views on social media.

There’s no way Mikal is getting traded,
Leon Rose traded 5 picks for him
Thibs wont survive another season if they are second round outs

Just wanna say it’s kind of insane how clockwork it is that by year 3-year 4, EVERY team Thibs is on grows tired of him/some drama ensues.

Its commendable actually, that’s consistency.

This must be humiliating for a head coach that one of his top guys need to go to the press to call him out. If I were Thibs, I would resign tomorrow. Leave Thibs now so you can keep whatever dignity you left with

I think this suggests there is tension between MIkal and Josh/Jalen

Josh and Jalen would know better than to throw Thibs under the bus like that. They probably would have told Mikal to keep his mouth shut if they knew thinking about talking about the minutes issue.

Minutes Police Rejoice! Mikal Bridges Asked Thibs To Play The Knicks Starters Less Minutes

Clem
3/12/2025 5:30 PM

NY Post- Mikal Bridges asked Tom Thibodeau to back off a bit on the starters’ minutes because the bench deserves more.

“Sometimes it’s not fun on the body,” Bridges said. “You’ll want that as a coach but also talked to him a little bit knowing that we’ve got a good enough team where our bench guys can come in and we don’t need to play 48 (minutes), 47.

“We’ve got a lot of good guys on this team that can take away minutes. Which helps the defense, helps the offense, helps tired bodies being out there and giving up all these points. It helps just keeping fresh bodies out there.” Bridges said Thibodeau was receptive but “sometimes I think he just gets in his ways.”

Holy ****, someone on the Knicks actually confronted Thibs about running his starters into the ground! Not only that, but the guy who did it is a fellow basketball sicko who hasn't missed a game in the NBA or college. That's like the unstoppable force telling the unmovable object to just think about scooting a little bit because it's hard to never stop. Our ironman has iron balls.

I know a lot of Knicks fans are sick their team traded the Nets a **** of draft picks to get Bridges. But this trade can actually come out as a W for the Knicks no matter how well Bridges plays or how good all those high schoolers and middle schoolers that were traded to Brooklyn end up being because maybe the Knicks won't be falling apart by the playoffs, bench players will be able to improve by actually playing in games, or at the very least things like this won't happen anymore.

There is also a decent chance that this is how Thibs reacted to Mikal's request:

Nonetheless, Bridges has gone from making himself the face of underachievement with the Knicks to the face of the Minutes Police with the Knicks, which should improve his standing with the fanbase immeasurably. So thanks Mikal for speaking up about the thing fans of Thibs teams have been complaining about since he was with the Bulls and good luck playing all 48 minutes in Portland tonight just because I'm not going to believe Thibs is willing change until I see it.

Hmm, after thinking about this...

Mikal ASKING Thibs to back off a bit on the starters' minutes does not equate to the two having a CONVERSATION

Mikal could have done all the talking and Thibs had nothing in response

Mp,

how are you going to justify your boy running to the media instead of talking to the coach. Seems pretty immature and toxic. I mean thibs seems like a really easy guy to talk about issues with. Mikal looks terrible here. Waiting for your response. As long as you don't blame OG somehow.

Are you sure? They replaced Bullock with Fournier on a big contract then watched him struggle and then Thibs completely removed him from the rotation. Grimes was the untouchable golden child that replaced Fournier in the starting lineup and then they watched him struggle and traded him for Bogey and Burks. Then they watched those 2 struggle and traded Bogey for Mikal. The entire roster has changed but Thibs still remains.

Thibs has survived an embarrassing first round defeat, a disastrous 2nd year, multiple losses to lower seeds in the postseason and a few disgruntled players. I could see Thibs gone but I could also see Mikal in another jersey while the front office sells the fan base on some other random player in their game of musical chairs.

ctorres wrote:so Thibs is DEFINITELY managing Brunson and KAT. He knows where they rank in mpg

Which means HE HAS TO KNOW that Josh and Mikal are ranked #1 and #2, OG ranks #6, yet he continues to play them all those minutes

OG @ 6 is why he should be fired.

That is fcking inexcusable

And honestly it makes me pissed at Leon for allowing it.

Oh damn. I missed that.

We have a liar or.... thibs is senile which is excusable cause he is old as hell. Either way this is a bad look.
