I called it

SAS arguing from Mikal's side

Perk arguing from Thibs' side

I stopped watching it when Perk showed he had no idea how many minutes these guys are playing

There are two parts to this story: Starters but especially Bridges/Hart/OG playing too many minutes. This is not about whether they can as opposed to whether how effective they are. There is a decreasing returns to scale here. We are often tired by the end of games and can’t keep up with teams in the fourth quarter.

The second part of this is the bench. I have no idea whether these guys had other opportunities but their careers show that McBride/Shamet/Payne/Precious can be effective playing more. I can’t imagine Precious is happy now going from hero to zero for instance. You have to keep the whole team together even if that means losing a game or two during the season.

My guess is that in Thibs' eyes, Precious is not enough of a floor spreader to play alongside Mitch for an extended period.

I've been saying it a lot as of late, but I don't think there is a single team in the NBA right now that comfortably plays any less than 4 guys who can hit a three at all times.

I'm anti minutes police bs and support Thibs but I also get the complaints to a point and I really see no problems with Kal voicing his opinions or offering advice. I think that's healthy in most situations anyway. A coach should always listen to his players.

However I do have an issue with Kal voicing this to the media. Bet Leon is pissed cause this is the first time we had something like this happen under his watch. Its disappointing cause Kal should know better. You keep this type of **** in doors and within the circle of the team. Telling the drama hungry media stuff like this does nothing good. Props to Thibs for shutting it down quickly and not allowing it to become a distraction.

Hopefully Kal learns to keep it in doors next time he has a disagreement or wants to offer some ideas to the coach!

First time? Several players have publicly voiced their grievances with too many or too little minutes and coaching… Mitch, Hart, Grimes, etc..

 Josh/KAT/JB have all mentioned minutes prior to this. In one way or another they have all mentioned minutes and being tired. This isn't something new. Thibs runs his players into the ground. Period end of story.

If Thibs even brushes off Dolan when it comes to discussing minutes...a mere player doesn't stand a chance approaching him on the subject.

So Mikal did what he had to do for his voice to be heard.. :dontknow:

I posted this in another forum, but am going to post it here too....

Can we PLEASE stop pretending he doesn't even it out?

From about 4:15-

So we are believing Bridges and believing Brunson and Hart are liars. I am keeping in mind that at the time of their respective comments Brunson has his extension coming up (just like Bridges) and I think Hart just signed his.

And rumor has it, I shared with DiVincenzo, that Thibodeau practices aren’t nearly as hard as advertised these days.

“They’re not,” DiVincenzo confirmed. “I played for (the Warriors’ Steve) Kerr and played for Coach Bud (former Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer). It’s not like you come here and all of a sudden you’re just running track every day (in practice). I think what he does by far better than anybody I’ve been around is he’s the most prepared. So it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go for two hours on your feet and running. But when you’re in there, you’re gonna lock in and you’re gonna get the stuff done and we’re gonna get out of there.”

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5361403/2024/03/22/tom-thibodeau-knicks-donte-divincenzo/

Despite all that, one Western Conference GM said his team has studied the medical data and there's no incontrovertible proof that playing a high volume of minutes results in injury. Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan, for example, led the league in minutes per game (37.8) at 33 years old, appeared in 79 games and finished second to Steph Curry for clutch player of the year honors.

"Generally, there's no evidence playing more is bad for a team, short- or long-term, but Thibs is definitely at the outer edge," he said. "It definitely looks bad for him, and the more you play, the more chance you have of getting injured. But I still think that's too simple. I doubt any doctor would say (Hart's) abdominal injury was likely caused by too many minutes. Robinson hardly played and got injured. It's an easy take to say Thibs grinds on his guys, but, again, I don't think there's evidence. Plus, if he didn't play them this much, they lose to Philly in the first round and none of this is an issue."

An Eastern Conference scout agreed. "Could some of the injuries have been prevented by playing Alec Burks and Precious Achiuwa more off the bench?" he asked. "Possibly. But players who are well-rested suffer injuries, too. Fatigue could contribute, for sure, but it's very difficult to assign if it's that or just bad luck."

The Western Conference GM did have a caveat. While he wouldn't draw a direct line from Thibs' approach to the spate of injuries, he wouldn't want his coach to take the same philosophy for reasons beyond assuring health in the postseason

And the other aspect of it is--which has been underdiscussed with Bridges' comments is that you NEED to establish a solid, confident bench if you want to win anything. Going to a 6-7 man rotation in November already is only going to discourage your 9th to 15th man. Just put yourself in the shoes of your players....with Thibs as a 9th or 10th best player, you know in Novemver already that you essentially are going to be sitting out the season. The opposite of motivation, trust and getting opportunities.

If Vince was playing on a severed Achilles, it sure didn't look like it to me, and I was there for a good bit of that in person

That's wild. I have a hard time believing it.

And I think people tend to use the fact that there haven't been any bad injuries this year as an out for Thibs, but it's not about that. Guys are gassed in the 4th and the team either has to have a nail biter win against lesser teams or we get stomped by the Bostons and Clevelands because their guys have fresh legs while Mikal, OG, and KAT are running on fumes.

Should have left this BS in the other forum. What Thibs does has factually caused injuries and lost us games. The end.
