Sam hauser trade value

Post#1 » by neno » Thu Mar 13, 2025 2:04 pm

Idk just spit balling
Hauser 10 million 1st year 4yr/48
Looking to shed celtics salary
Hauser to Sacramento (hueter tpe)
2025 2nd (38?)
Sacramento could use more 3pt shooting
Hauser #28&31 2025 draft
to Atlanta (Murray or Bogdan tpe)
For Lakers pic(23?)
Atlanta could also use shooting it seems
Already have niang not sure of fit
Boston could also target future picks
Few other teams with big tpe's but don't seem like their competing (Chicago Brooklyn etc)
But in a vacuum what is Hauser worth?

He fits in any full MLE. Will be easy to dump him.

Not sure about value, but asking for a 2nd seems fair.

I think Sam Hauser could return multiple 2nd round picks. Maybe a heavily protected/very late 1st round pick, but unlikely.

He's a decent rotation player making decent rotation player money. I think you could dump him into someone's MLE without too much trouble if you were just looking for salary relief, but I wouldn't expect anything back beyond some nominal 2nds.

A first is out of the question IMO. Hauser isn't a 1st round pick better than someone you can sign with the MLE.

He fits into the MLE, which can now be used as a Trade Exception.

He is going to be easy to move.

good shooter, has size, willing to play various roles. Yeah, easy to market and trade. any team would consider him on the roster.

two 2nds, or a player of comparable value and one second should do it.

For a team that wants to shoot threes as much as Boston does, seems like Hauser isn’t the guy to move to shed salary.

Cavs have full MLE available next year, I'd happily take him for a 2nd and TPE.

Cavs are currently over the 2nd apron for next year and won’t have use of either taxpayer MLE or the non taxpayer MLE.

if its a player of comparable value then why would it require additional asset?

Sam is particularly effective on court with Jayson Tatum, reg season or playoffs. JT+Hauser two man net rating was +16.2 last playoffs which was the best net rating of any two man combo to play minimum 200 playoff minutes*. I think Celts would prefer to shed money elsewhere.

*of any pairing in the entire NBA not just on the Celts

I'm still pretty surprised the consensus is that he's worth 2nds and space and not at least a later first. I guess maybe I'm not counting the value of pure cap space enough in the current CBA environment, but even still it just feels light. I guess it might just come down to what kind of money is moving in the other direction?

He's a guaranteed 40% shooter and a good defender. Not just passable but actually good defensively. In fairness he doesn't offer anything else offensively, it's always a surprise when he puts the ball on the floor and he's not a plus rebounder/passer, but still I would think a legit 3&D guy locked in on a good deal for his prime (it'll be 3/35 left this summer) would go for more. That archetype should be like catnip to genuine contenders picking in the 20's looking for help.

His new contract starts next year. 4/45 left.

Good player in his prime. 3 and D that has shown he can make big shots in big games.
Fair or maybe team friendly contract. He for sure has positive value. It’s hard to say a first though if the Cs are taking back less money. Maybe in the right situation. I would lean toward his value being a good 2nd or two.

Celtics have such a good roster that none of the individual players are that good, they are just allowed to shine by the goodness of the other players.

On a less serious note, not sure why people think you can grab a guy like Hauser on an MLE when eg Strus is smaller, not as good a shooter and got 50% more on the open market.

As I’ve noted many times with Hauser is he’s been banged up all year. Otherwise he’s 6’8” elite shooter elite on off guy if any team knew they’d get that he’d go first round every single time as a draft prospect.

Hauser is a G leaguer that happened to flourish in Celtics’ system. Any GM who pays for his services will most likely regret it.

I have him positive value for Boston and negative for any other team, which makes him immovable.

He's neutral value at best on that new contract. It's not as much the $10-12 mil salary as it is the length (4-years). Not a bad defender, but a one-dimensional offensive player who drops from 41% on 3's to league average (36.7%) in the playoffs. Lot of teams would take him into their MLE for free, absolutely. But you're not flipping him for a meaningful asset, sorry Celtics fans. Maybe a distant 2nd or two from a contender that desperately needs shooting.
