LaMelo Ball to Portland

Post#1 » by NYG » Fri Mar 14, 2025 3:08 am

LaMelo Ball for Scoot Henderson and Jerami Grant

Portland takes a shot at a player that could really elevate their ceiling and they don't seem to be trying to tank.

Charlotte takes a shot at a player that resets the timeline a bit and could be a core piece alongside Miller.

Honestly, I have no idea how to value Scoot or LaMelo so have at it

Grant is seen as one on of the worst contracts. LaMelo is a difference maker. Scoot is a nice prospect, but not enough to make up the difference to me

If we trade LaMelo to Portland the offer starts and ends with Sharpe.

Yeah - I don't think this is a salvageable trade premise ....

Scoot hasn't even gotten the chance to start yet. Lamelo is on his second deal, maxed out, hasn't won anything, seems like a terrible fit personality fit for portlands culture, and who is anyone kidding, the guy is a Laker or Clipper first chance he gets, zero loyalty type person.

Scoot has been patient, works hard, great kid and showing massive improvement from his rookie year. I would rather have him than Ball any day, despite the obvious talent.

We should be talking Shaedon for the Cha pick. I don't think Shaedon is that guy for Portland (although most fans disagree with me)and i'd rather kick the can down the road and try again with another pottery pick. Ball, Sharpe, Miller, Salaun, Williams is kinda nice.

I tried a more balanced trade
Ball for #9/Henderson/Tybulle/RWilliams

Char gets their younger PG and the #9. Tybulle/RWill are expiring next year. They try to dump Bridges too and build around
Henderson/Miller/MWilliams/Salaun/their top 5 pick/#9 pick

Port goes for the playoffs with
Ball/Simons
Sharpe/Simons
Deni/Grant
Camara/Grant
Ayton/Clingan

Ball is not worth the #1 overall.

Not happening.

Id like scoot + ayton + 10

Scoot + miller + flagg + #10
Ayton can play center there for a year.

There are all nos for me. Don't think Lamelo moves this team forward.

It is easy enough to make it Ball for Simons/Henderson.
Portland has enough quality 2Gs in Sharpe and Thybulle to make Simons expendable.
Also Ball is better than Henderson when healthy and will make the other players better.
Hornets could even give up Smith to make the move more palatable.

Hornets get a young guard and an experienced one to fill 2 positions of need. Hornets then in position to draft BPA rather a position of need.

Outside observer...long-term, I'd rather have Scoot straight up over LaMelo.

Lots of reasons, mostly that I think Scoot is a serious guy...I think Kobe would choke Lamelo in practice.

Lamelo averages 40ish games a year is shooting 30.0% from 3 this year with a ts of 53.1 making 40ish million a year

Scoot is healthy shooting 36.6% from 3 this year with a ts of 55.5 making 10 mil a year for another couple years

Sure he does not have the star power of Melo but he fits this rebuilding team well and is not injured all the time

100% agree.

Ball is currently a better player than Scoot... But given where each franchise is at -> I'm not sure Portland would trade Scoot for Ball straight up.

I would not be interested in LaMelo at this price.
