I'm not saying he isn't a better prospect and I definitely need to watch more of him, but I'm curious to know why the consensus seems to be much higher on Newell compared to Toppin. What am I missing?

For me it's more belief in Newell's shooting, handle (he's more face up than Toppin), and size. I think Newell can be like Claxton with shooting. Toppin is a 4 that doesn't space the floor.

I dont think Asa will be the +1.5 DBPM / 1.7 BPG career average guy that Claxton is - but the shooting part for sure is why he projects higher than JT.

I like Newell, and think he'll go in the 8-13 range. He's not exciting, doesn't blow you away in any one area, but does a lot of things decently well. Plus, this draft is loaded with wing guys but not a lot of big men, so that should help his case as well. Coming off a monster game against Oklahoma.

I had a moment recently where I watched Newell's college highlights and was reminded of Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr. Now Newell did this at 19 while Nance was a 22-year old senior and a couple inches shorter, but I was definitely a believer in Nance at that time.
