Warriors five best players are...

Post#1 » by GQ Hot Dog » Fri Mar 14, 2025 4:57 am

Not having to do with position. Pick the three guys other than Steph and Jimmy you think are most reliably making the biggest positive impact right now. Draymond's playing amazing, but he's not a max guy so he's in the poll.

Are those the five guys you want to see closing a tight game?

Too hard to choose right now since JK is just coming back. But if we're choosing just right now it's most likely Dray, GP2, Moody. JK maybe can supplant GP2 or Moody but they're playing great.

Related to this and to the Death Lineup I've wanted to see that we did finally get to see last night (Steph/Moody/Jimmy/JK/Dray), this is from Slater's article today (and if you listen to their +/- pod this morning he discussed it with TK for a good several minutes):

Kuminga’s minutes restriction limited Kerr’s ability to use him in large doses and specific lineups. He was barely able to preview the foursome that will presumably make up their closing unit on most nights: Curry, Butler, Green and Kuminga. The question will be who slots in as the fifth closer.

“My gut is (Brandin Podziemski) should be with that lineup,” Kerr said. “But maybe I’m thinking about it wrong. I’m thinking about BP’s playmaking. But with Draymond and Jimmy, maybe we have enough playmaking and can put a shooter out there — Moses or Buddy (Hield). That’s definitely a lineup we are thinking about.”

Interestingly, TK agrees with me that it should be Moody. Absolutely hope it's not Buddy unless he's just on an absolute heater in a game. But I would also argue that it needs to be proved Kuminga is a lock in that lineup. Maybe it's the current starting lineup with Podz and Moody and that's better than having JK in for one of those guys. Right now I think Moody should be more of a lock in any closing lineup than JK or Podz. He's just proving to be too good to take out.

Dray is a lock and Moody is a lock.

out of Post, GP2, JK and Podz...it really depends on the matchup...if Podz can shoot I am sure he will finish every time. GP2 is another great choice.

Curry / Butler / Moody / Kuminga / Dray should be the closing lineup, and a new, updated version of the Death Lineup.

Hopefully Kerr and the coaching staff realizes that and give it a try from now on.

It's funny I posted this on Reddit and 99% of the comments said it can't work. The r/warriors subreddit is really bad imo. Next to useless.

they will pack the paint and trap Steph...Dray and JK will get wide open threes every time. If this is your death lineup then sure, i would not put our fate on their hands.

Trap Steph and then you have Jimmy one-on-one. You have JK one-on-one. You have Moody wide open most times. It can definitely work. Defense it is clearly the best lineup.

Not having gp2 in our best defensive lineup is a choice. Add in gp2 been shooting 40% from 3 for like 2 months. I’m really not sure how gp2 isn’t even a thought here.

It's going to take time, if it's going to work, but during the 4:41 that Butler and Kuminga were on the floor together last night, the Warriors were -7. Small sample size, rotation dependent, but still, not exactly a warm fuzzy to start off with. We should have a better idea in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah I can see that. Just replace JK with GPII.

That’s the lineup we saw close last night. Honestly I feel like Kerr is finally starting to understand that Moody needs to be a lock in our closing units. It’s not just that he’s “earned” it. It’s that he’s legitimately the fourth best player on this team. Full stop. That’s my belief right now. He’s basically essential to get the best two-way balance on those units. He’s also got the quiet killer mentality and mentality to be that “other” and just do whatever it takes. He already got paid. Dude is just about winning not accumulating stats or proving he’s a star.

Kerr gets it now right? Right???

Steph/Jimmy/Dray/Moody are unquestionably top 4

#5 is kind of a roaming target depending on the game and matchups

Moody is now 18-1 as a starter or something crazy.

Just have to hope that we don’t prioritize jk over him.
