Veach, Reid and the Chiefs are up to something big. They just re-did Mahomes and Chris Jones' contracts to free up 49.3 mill.

Teams have to be cap compliant by 4pm eastern today. That's why they restructured those contracts. To free up cap space. It was either that or they we're going to have to make several cuts to fit under the cap.

They have $36 million in cap after the restructuring

Which really isn't that much, it's 14th in the league

There's not really much they can do with that money, it's like you said they're getting cap compliant and leaving room for their draft picks which if they make no trades will take up ~$10 million in cap this year, giving them $26 million to spend

They have 60 active players which is more than you have in-season but less than going into the preseason, so I expect most of that space to go towards signing guys to fill out the 90-man roster.
