The idea of Cam Reddish has always been better than the reality.

What happened to him? He shot 36% from the field in college. He shouldn’t have been selected in the first round. Should’ve been second round, G league fodder.

Nothing. Check his stats. He’s always been a bum.

I always felt Cam bought into his own hype. People saw Paul George with him when his ceiling was a 3-D wing who could sometimes cause damage in transition. When he put the ball on the floor bad things happened and when he stopped moving off ball on offense, which was often, good things didn't happen. He could occasionally ball hawk on defense but he should have been this great switchable defender and didn't really commit to being that.

Both with the Hawks and the Knicks he started squawking about his role when he was getting minutes instead of bearing down on the role he was given. When he was traded to the Blazers, I watched Chauncey chew him out in real time for not rotating.

I think he finally figured some of this out in LA but the hour gets late quick in the NBA.

He hasn't been good at basketball since high school. I have no idea how anyone could have watched him at Duke and said this guy is going to be good. Defenses ignored him all season to focus on RJ and Zion and he still shot 35% from field and 39% from two. I can't find his % at the rim, but it was atrocious for a guy his size. One of the most obvious busts ever.

I like his defensive mindset and hustle on the Lakers, I think we should keep him around because our defense right now anchors on the two big wingmen DFS and Vando, I pray they stay healthy, but the way they play (and knowing Vando's history with injury) it is good to have another wing defensive person to help alongside in case one of the sits out.

Normally I would say this is harsh and reductive etc but it's pretty much that. Moves real pretty, ball don't go in that much. And he never wanted to commit to a different role consistently.

Genuinely one of the more overrated prospects in recent memory.

At what point has he ever put together a meaningful season of work?

We can't even say that about his time at Duke, which was largely living off the afterglow of Zion and RJ, and seems to have translated to his NBA career.

I never thought highly of him going into the draft... He didn't look good at Duke and hasn't looked good in the NBA. Raw potential, sure, but never honed his skills the way many thought he would

(I'm often very wrong when it comes to judging draft prospects so I'll take this lone W)

Nah he was living on the afterglow of being a ridiculous athletic specimen who was a dominant player in the HS circuit.

Like eg Jaylen Brown, who only ended up being a great pick because he went from bad college shooter to quite good NBA shooter.

It happens, man, all this stuff is unpredictable. And Reddish already fell out of the top 5 because of his especially concerning lack of feel and efficiency at Duke. But raw guys still do sometimes work out well, never gonna know until it’s happening.

It's actually sad too. There was a very narrow window towards the end of his 2nd year where he actually started doing the right things. This was the year of his fabled couple games vs MIL in the playoffs.

After that, they couldn't tell him nothin'. It seems it all went to his head and that was all she wrote.

He was involved in a first Luka trade. All of them are cursed.

He is a good example of a player that probably should have stayed in school a few more years career wise, but got out and graded his bag before all the shine/hype wore off.

It happens, he's talented but not enough to play the Star role in the NBA.

He wasnt capable of learning to play the 3+D role, that means being a good spot up shooter, good IQ to play off ball cutting, screening, hustling every night on defense, running the floor, etc.

Thats the path most players have to follow to establish themselves as NBA players and he wasnt never willing or able to do it.

Maybe he can take his talents to Europe or China. He might be able to find his niche there.

He sucked in college
He sucked as a rookie
He sucked as a sophomore
He sucked as a veteran

Besides being athletic and tall he doesnt really do anything well. Hes also apparently hard headed and stubborn. Low BBIQ. Doesn't shoot, pass, or handle well. Should be a great defender but isn't. Hes just a turd out there and always has been.

I was floored he went in the lotto based on what he showed in college. He should have been a late second rounder on height/athleticism.

I guess it were people with a time machine who compared Cam Reddish to 34yo Paul George.
