Best Option #3

Post#1 » by LakersSoul » Wed Mar 19, 2025 3:54 pm

Lot of talk of best Option #3 in a team.

If you were building a team, who would you choose as your option #3?
For fairness, lets assume all players are paid the same:

Austin Reaves
Normal Powell
Porzinis with injury risk
Derrick White
Bridges
Anunoby
Garland
Holmgren
Bane
Castle

Garland is not the cavaliers third option. That would be Mobley.

Anunoby. Hear me out. If I had 2 stud offensive players as my #1 and 2, I need a low use defensive anchor. OG is perfect for #3.

How can a team (Knicks, Celtics) have two #3s? That's weird math.
G - James | Rondo
G - Bradley | Caruso
F - Green | Caldwell-Pope
F - Davis | Kuzma | Morris
C - McGee | Howard

Garland shouldn't be on the list, he's pretty clearly the #2

Solid showing for KP in the poll considering his name is misspelled and he's the only player with an injury risk haha.

Whoever the Cavs 3rd option is. Whether it's Garland or Mobley, that's my pick.

Healthy Chet is a good pick as well.
Whoever is the 3rd option on Boston or New York.

Austin Reaves has low key been amazing this year. Bane belongs on this list.

I don't see why Stephon Castle is on this list though... he's one of my fave rookies but he's nowhere near the level of the other guys yet.

OP said best, not most upside.

Do you really think Castle has higher upside than Chet?

Mobley for me. From the players listed, probably Chet. In general, my prototype for most useful third options is defensive anchor who could score or/and space the floor reliably.

Give me AR. Can step in anytime an be the second option without any drop off.

29-7-9 in games without Lebron this year and for some reason the efficiency improved in those games. 2 of the games included him as the first option because Luka/AD were both out as well. Averaged 41 in those first option games.

Castle doesn't make sense on the list with him being a rookie. Right now he's not a good 3rd option, but he's on the up and learning and might not even be a 3rd option in the future.

Holmgren is a nice one.

Yeah, confusion between "third best player" and "third option on offense". Voting Garland as a vote for whichever one the OP intended.
