We are already there lb. Keep Spoziering.

I do feel like it's all mental at this point, the season just needs to end. They need a mental recalibration with some new talent infusion.

The majority of it is. A lot of it is Spo trying to outthink 4th quarter matchups. The previous Knix loss he was talking bout needing to match what the other team was doing vs doing what we do best. He needs a vacation from bball for a few months.

What do yall see Richardson's possible role on this team? I think he's talented, but I'm wary about the Heat adding yet another undersized SG. I don't see him as a PG at all. If we think he has star level scoring I understand, I just see him as a sixth man type guy. Get rid of Rozier and put in Jase.

It's a big question for me that I don't yet have clarity on. Not just specific to this team, as I'm a firm believer Miami needs to come away from each first round pick with the highest impact NBA talent possible, but for his NBA functioning overall.

Jase has a cool blend of skills and is hyper efficient in his role. He's clearly smart, has great touch, and has great coordination operating in tight spaces. But, the limited onball work leaves a big open question with regards to his NBA fit.

Jase is 6'3 (maybe smaller? Although his wingspan looks solid). To be a strong starting player in the NBA at that size you either gotta operate as a true lead guard creating offense or you gotta be an elite volume 3 pt shooter.

This season Jase has created less than half of his own made FGs (46%) and only 56% of his FGM at the rim. Jase also has an assist percentage of 15.2%. Let's compare that to some of the other top guards in the class (some numbers may be a few games old):

Dylan Harper - 75% self-created FGM; 26.5% assist%
VJ Edgecombe - 49% self-created FGM; 19.9% assist%
Tre Johnson - 63% self-created FGM; 16.3% assist%
Jeremiah Fears - 73% self-created FGM; 28.5% assist%
Kasparas Jakucionis - 72% self-created FGM; 27.2% assist%
Jase Richardson - 46% self-created FGM; 15.2% assist%

Without more insight into his onball creation skillset, it's hard to feel confident to project an upside case much better than a player like Malik Monk. With that said, maybe that's just MSU hiding him in a role that he excels in, when he is capable of more.

I'd love to know his half-court PNR numbers and other playtype numbers. He def shows flashes on tape.

Expanding on this a little more as I don't want lack of onball reps to limit my assessment. Here is a comparison of the pre-draft college stats (percent of FGM self-created; assist %; 3pt rate; dunks) of some successful NBA players that were drafted as "SGs with PG size"

Jase Richardson: 46% (56% at rim) self-created; 15% asst; 38% 3PR; 5 dunks
Bradley Beal: 46% (65% at rim) self-created; 13% asst; 47% 3PR; 18 dunks
Donovan Mitchell: 57% (80% at rim) self-created; 16% asst; 51% 3PR; 9 dunks
CJ McCollum: 60% (62% at rim) self-created; 25% asst; 33% 3PR; 3 dunks
Jared McCain: 46% (77% at rim) self-created; 11% asst; 55% 3PR; 2 dunks
Tyrese Maxey: 65% (80% at rim) self-created; 19% asst; 32% 3PR; 7 dunks
Malik Monk: 47% (52% at rim); 13% asst; 47% 3PR; 24 dunks

Bradley Beal, McCain, and Malik Monk had the most similar usage to Jase in college. Good to see Bradley Beal as a higher end comparable. Jase still has more story to write with the tourney and NBA draft process.

Mostly I just want to see him more consistently create advantage while on-ball and then I'm fully in.

All in all I think this is holding up as a strong draft class. Having a pick in the top 10 should give Miami real opportunity for a legit difference maker.

If things stay as they are, the 8th pick could get us Fears which Id be happy with. Hoping that guys likes Kon and Kas and Tre all maintain their mock standings after combines and workouts.

I'm seeing increased buzz for some bigs like CMB, Maluach, and Queen (all nice prospects). I expect at least 2 of them to be selected in top 10.

If Miami can end up with any of the following guys I think it's a BIG win:

Flagg
Harper
Edgecombe
Fears
Richardson
Tre Johnson

There are others I like too, but damn the odds of boosting offensive creation with any of those is great.

We're not in range yet but Jeremiah Fears is a guy I'd love to draft.

That's me saying we're not in range yet. I'm spearheading this tank along with Rozier and Spo!!!

His skillset is nice. Handles are high level. Hes fearless attacking the rim. Even though his percentages are low from deep, I like his release.

Thats a whole lotta skillset we could use. Hed have more space to burst to the rim and generate opportunities.

He seems like an obvious choice for todays game and our specific needs.

Between Fears and Richardson, who has the higher ceiling and who has the higher floor? For me Fears has a much higher ceiling, but Richardson with his current shooting has a higher floor.

I love the tidbit about Jase Richardson's pick n roll efficiency. Onball creation is one of the outstanding questions for me with Jase, so the more positive indicators I can see on that front the more excited I can become about his upside case.

Basically I believe he needs to be a primary ballhandler at the next level for his upside case as a top 10 pick at 6'3. I'm hopeful he'll measure in with a solid wingspan of 6'6 or better.

Good question. Agreed with Richardson having the higher floor. The efficiency at all 3 levels hes shown this season cannot be taken lightly. He has special touch.

Fears is a year younger and his handle and self-creation is a lot more stress tested. I'm getting tempted to bump Richardson higher and higher up my board, but a bit of mystery remains with his lower usage (already have Jase in my top 10)

Something tells me he’s going to impress our front office. Also helps we probably got a good book on him from his time at Columbus.

Return to Miami Heat
